Since it seems fitting to post a place for you to ask us questions about what we do, and how you can appease us, I proudly present...
THE OC Q&A THREAD!
Here we will answer questions you might have about what we do, how you can get approved, whatever you think you ought to know as an OC.
Alignment questions, Weaponry, Magic, etc.
Couple of ground rules first though.
1) I am not going to tolerate you pestering me about your OC's here or anywhere else.
2) I will not answer the question in relation to your OC. I will answer them in relation to the whole. I will not use this thread to fix your kit. Do not reference any specific OC's in your posts.
3) This is not the place for debate. If such an issue becomes debate worthy, Swain and I will discuss it and end it.
4) Manners at all times. Not just to me, but your fellows.
5) As with Pending OC's, try not to reply to a question unless it affects you directly. If you wish to present a counter point, wait until an Admin, the Council, or myself post.
Ehm, I have a question. I'm waiting to get approved and the council told me to talk to Cassiopeia as my Bio involved her. But the thing is we don't have a Cass, I know we are getting one, I talked to Swain about this but if it occurs at a later time.
What should I do if my bio involves a champion that doesn't have a RPer?

Hello people of Maelstrom,
While I generally try to remain as separate as possible from original character creation, I'd like it to be know that I will be monitoring this thread closely, and answering questions where I can. As always, you can feel free to contact me directly via forum PM, skype (DearCryophoenix), or email (Wyerden@gmail.com) if you'd like to discuss any questions or concerns privately.

Ok, I have a question.
I'm currently in the middle of considering a heavily nature-based OC. She's nowhere near solid enough for me to submit her in full, but I do have a pertinent question.
I'm thinking of having an event happen in her early life where she either came upon a Rune or encountered a being which "blessed/cursed" her with a Rune, leaving her blind (most likely the latter).
Basically, is there a Rune that would specifically represent the primal forces of Nature?
Aside from the fact that Rune Magic is hard to get (which I'm going to shoot for anyways), I really just need that question answered so I won't be wasting time making a character who will never see the light of day.

Our Rune policy is that you contact an Admin or the council directly about it. We are keeping what runes we have and don't have a secret because runes are a restricted knowledge in our world. IC, most summoners don't know what rune does what or if it is a rune and not a random scribble, thus most people know of runes, but wouldn't know one if they saw it.

Question: what's the stance on werewolves as an OC, ones that have some control over changing between their human and hybrid forms, but have no choice when it comes to shifting during a full moon?

Alright, I have a few questions too.
What is the general rule with changing accepted OC profiles? By this I mean adding details to explain the reason behind the enchanted traits that equipment may gain over RP's, or skills that are developed by the OC. For example Kahn, my ninja, is training with Zed and is apart of that Order. It is only natural that he would develop skills in the art of shadows.
How would I reflect this training or enchantment in my profile? Should I discuss it with the person who is training them, and then set milestones and update the profile as it goes? Or do I have to resubmit the application, and go through that process again?
My other question revolves around more combat focused situations.
Would the council prefer quantitative (100 damage if the attack is successful) or a more descriptive (This attack will deal a large amount of magic damage) method of describing how powerful a certain attack is?

Mmkay, in order.
The council had a quick internal conversation about werewolves and we've come to the conclusion that we feel they're more of the cursed type. They don't have control over it and it's hardly a good thing, because losing control is the expected outcome. Betting on not gutting your grandmother as she tries to give you milk and cookies would be long odds. The distinction here is that a shape shifter would have (through some means, be they magical or otherwise) the ability to shift freely, on command, and remain in control.
With that said, every OC is a unique case and given the right framing for the character, anything* is possible
As to our rules for character power growth, our rules are fairly simple. Whatever changes you want to make to an OC need to be PM'd to the Council. This can be any or all of Victus, the Council Account, myself. I'm certain even Anivia would be willing to pass the information along to the Council as a whole. Once that's done, it's just like the normal review process. The only rule that becomes more relevant than the rest is that the time it takes to learn new techniques, magics, what-have-you, is just as relevant in a growth scenario as it is in a fresh OC.
Talon spent most of his life and was trained by and with two blademasters, for example, plus he had natural talent on his side. Invest a month and you get a month and that does mean real time.
Finally, and this one I was actually kind of shocked we hadn't put down before, we hate numbers. No one has health, so a damage number has no statistical basis. We tell people in about 100% of cases that we don't want damage numbers, or any number that has to do with the game (mana cost, armor/magic pen, stuff like that) because no one has stats for these to remove.
I recall we once had a very brief conversation about if such a system would help the forum, but it was decided that while it adds more immediate clarity, it gets a little blocky and generic. We're here to write stories, not rub numbers against one another.
(*Anything within reason, obviously. Superman only ever goes down because of deus ex machina- I mean Kryptonite, and that's boring for a lot of people.)
