September 17th, 23 CLE
Sitting in a chair, Ethan close his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose, an obvious air of fatigue and frustration pervading the room. He was thankful that no one had decided to arrive particularly early, a thought that made him glance to the techmaturgical clock hanging in their appointed meeting room. It was just another in a long line of irritating disturbances happening around the world, building up slowly. If he did not have a desperately important meeting in a few days, he might go and investigate it himself, but he could not.
Five minutes until the appointed time, Ethan stood and composed himself, making certain that the data packages were still neatly arrayed for those who would be coming. He took a moment to look over the readings, each one written out by hand. they were words that made his heart sink. Magical disturbances in the Howling Marsh, the strength of which were completely unprecedented for the region. He didn't envy the task of investigating, he knew how volatile the place could be. It was unpleasant, murky and terrible.
Closing the folder, he tossed it back onto the table and squared it with the seat before it. Everything had become so much more dangerous than it had ever been before, and it was up to the Institute to try and solve it. The world had high hopes and a penchant for shoving responsibility off of themselves and onto his already desperately overworked summoners.
"They're not mine, they're the League's..." He corrected, heaving out a last sigh before the mask of professional efficiency cloaked his exhaustion. He had called the only people he could think would be even reasonably free to come plus a little... Additional muscle. Even that had been taxing, their reserves of free hands with a little bit of oomph were depressingly low.
Turning to the door, Ethan leaned against the table and waited for their arrival, feeling each second weigh upon his conscience.
Do not falter from the path of peace, justice and truth will set you free.

Jacob whistled a jaunty tune as he walked towards the meeting room. Dealings in Bilgewater had been rather slow as of late, so the League decided that his time could be better spent on other endeavours, hence the meeting he was heading to. He didn't know much, that only that there was a try to the Howling Marsh in store for him. Naiyu seemed thrilled to come too, something he found odd. Not many people enjoy going to a desolate swamp full of dead things.
He entered the room, surprised to be what seemed to be the first person there, given his usual punctualness. The only other person in the room was a fellow summoner. Jacob had seen him roaming the halls before, but had never actually talked to him. He saw the crest that identified him as a Steward, which brought back memories of Stewart Summoner Tybressa scolding him for poor work ethic.
Several seats had been laid out, with bundles of paper in front of each one. Jacob took a seat directly across from Ethan. "Hey there friend" he said, flashing a smile as he did. "Summoner Cervantes, from Bilgewater, at yer' service." He didn't speak with the traditional Bilgewater accent, but would pull it our on occasion to show he was the real deal.

Keeping up just barely with the near frolicking older male Summoner, Naiyu did her best to follow him to the meeting place decided upon for this rather interesting trip. She had only been brought up to speed on the very basic premise of it, not having very much time to gather her thoughts on the entire matter before deciding to aid her revered teacher Jacob in the endeavor. It was also a good opportunity to retrieve lovely rare and exotic things from the marshes she'd otherwise never venture out for in this lifetime alone...
Win win, really.
Once the room was reached, Naiyu stayed herself to Jacob's side, only reveling herself slightly to the other present Summoner with a courtesy sweeping bow to show respect. Otherwise she stayed at Jacob's side, sunset eyes taking in everything around her with a hesitant curiosity. What was the proper conduct for this? Should she introduce herself? If this Steward was anything like Miss Tybresa...
With a light shudder at the embarrassing memory, Naiyu cleared her throat and decided to be safe, rather than pay for it later. "...P-Pleasant hello, Sir Steward...I am Naiyu Persici Lu...a..pleasure, to meet you. I'm here as...Sir Jacob's assistant...I hope not to cause too much f-fuss in your plans..."

Robert made his way to the meeting room unsure what to expect of this assignment, his last trip through the Howling Marsh was fairly unpleasant, now this would be sending him to investigate some strange activity within it? He let out a sigh and hoped that this wouldn't be nearly as bad as his mind was making it out to be.
He supposed the only reasons he had been selected for this one was because of the success of his last one... if you could call that success, and at the same time it shouldn't matter to him since this was job right? He'd taken the steps to becoming a summoner believing it was simply the next step to proving his worth as a mage... showing that worth to his superiors on assignments such as only seemed fit.
He entered the room and noticed three people already seated and naturally assumed he was on time, he bowed slightly and announced himself just to be certain they were aware of his identity.
"Summoner Robert Caldwell reporting." With that out of the way he took the seat nearest the others, expecting them to be filled single file. He thought about inspecting the others to see who he would be working with but decided against it as they would be together on their dreary way to the marsh soon.

The small mummy walked several meters behind the other summoners unnoticed for a while. Having to run turn around a few times as his bandages got stuck on a couple of things along the way. Having been called down to the meeting room for reasons to be discussed at the meeting. Quite a lot of people in the league always treated him like a child and he was always happy to provide his assistance to the institute. The summoners the closest thing he's had to a family every since he rose from the dead.
Walking into the room Amumu had pushed the door gently. Unintentionally having it make a loud creek pausing to tip toe up to see who the faces of those sitting at the table. Walking over to his chair as he pulls out the chair made for an average sized human. Climbing up it as smoothly as he could. Eventually making himself comfortable as he sees the others.
Realizing that the one at the head of the table was the steward. "I uh... thanks for letting me help. I hope we can become good friends." He tried to get through his words rather quickly... wondering if the stewards were all similar. As the mummy had thoughts of his mother like steward Tybresa.

The final people to arrive in the room were a pair of shuffling, Silver-ranked Summoners, carrying the necessary equipment to properly gauge the readings that had been taken between them in a fairly large chest. It hardly looked like an easy job, but they finally clambered into the room and gently placed the chest upon the floor before taking their seats.
The first of the pair tipped his hood back and stretched his arms as he took his seat, mumbling something about lower back problems. He didn't bother to introduce himself, but it was clear that he didn't want to be here, and was possibly only present due to some sort of punishment. Before anyone had a chance to speak to him, he had taken out a bag of dried fruit and started hastily downing them, one by one.
The other Silver, a woman, took her seat and sighed heavily. "Summoner Alexis Geins, reporting. The grumpy one is Summoner Jessom Caltra. Happy to be of service." She explained, a much more jubilant addition to their group than her partner. Clearly, she wasn't the one here because she had been bullying a Bronze and seemed to have some sort of vested interest. She took a seat beside the mummy and smiled at him, then directed her attention to Ethan.

Ethan greeted the first of the arrivals as pleasantly as he could, though his normally cool demeanor was tinged with a hint of impatience. "Greetings, Summoner Cervantes, I trust I'm not pulling you away from anything too important in Bilgewat-" He began, though seeing Naiyu enter the room as well, followed by Robert, he stopped. It would be simpler to just greet them all as one and so he stopped himself there. As the research equipment he had requested be sent to the station finally arrived with the pair of Silver summoners, he began to explain.
"First of all, I would like to both thank you all and apologize to you. I know this request came on short notice." He jumped into the details immediately. "We've received word from our monitoring station in the Howling Marsh that there has been a very sudden spike in energy, particularly Runic in nature. The station has urgently requested additional materials to better grasp what has occurred there. We keep the station relatively sparse of individuals because of the typically quiet nature of the place, but due to the sudden spike in energy, the Institute has decided that a more steady group of individuals may be required to document and, hopefully, undo any damage that may have been done to the surrounding area."
He stopped a moment and tapped the folder before himself, opening the cover and turning a piece of paper around to them, a graphical representation of exactly how powerful the spike was. While it was incredibly brief, the flicker of power was several hundred magnitudes stronger than anything that had recently been felt from the area.
"Because of the troubling nature of the place, its general seclusion from the rest of the world and the exact nature of what has taken place, I would like to urge each of you to exercise as much caution as you possibly can while you are on this assignment. Know that, regardless of what occurs, you all stand as the face of the League in this matter. You deal with dangerous powers and you represent our interests at large." Ethan explained, flipping a page and detailing the contents of the map below. It was sparse, to say the least, as the lands were very poorly mapped, even for the Institute. After doing so, he listed the specific, particular reasons that they were going, though it was clear to each of the summoners what they were there for. Due process, however, had to be paid mind.
After taking a few more minutes to explain that a charge of horses would be issued to carry them there faster, he looked each of the Summoners in the eyes, as well as Amumu, measuring them as he spoke. "If there are any among you who would rather sit this assignment out, speak now and know that you will not be thought any less of for it. Except, of course, for you, Summoner Jessom." He asked of the group, his eyes falling on the sullen Jessom, who was not afforded the choice of backing out.

Jacob frowned as Ethan went over the reports with them. If someone was playing with Rune magic, then this was indeed a serious matter to attend to. But what could be the cause?
"Have we heard any word from the outpost in the Howling Marsh?" He paused for a little. "Do we have an possible guesses?"

The woman took special care to listen to every word the Steward before her relayed to this rag-tag group of people. It seemed no one was going to be much of a hindrance, save the Silver Summoner that was obviously interested in being anywhere but here. Her exact role in the party unknown for now, she pensively shifted her footing and held her arms together, listening to the speech across the room.
As everyone talked her eyes would stay stationary on the desk of papers, curiosity over where they were headed and what she was going to see filling her thoughts with excitable nervousness. She did not answer when Ethan asked for those who wished to withdraw to do so, stating her desire to stay with the group for the long haul.

Robert focused his attention on Ethan as he went over the details of the assignment, though the second he mentioned the word runic he was a bit uncertain. Was the current state of the world in such a state that a lowly bronze summoner such as him would be tasked with what had the potential to be a incredibly dangerous assignment?
His train of soon to be depressing thoughts was cut short by Cervantes questioning the status of their station in the marsh, though he also was reminded summoner Ethan had just said if any of the individuals gathered today excluding Summoner Jessum for some reason. The thought of backing out rang in his mind but he quickly reconsidered this, he didn't want to cause anymore work for Steward Ethan by backing out when they were already low on Summoners so he simply stayed quiet and turned his attention to Ethan awaiting his response to Jacob.

Taking time to think on the words of the steward the small mummy had several questions of his own that came to mind. Few of which he shut down as he just sat quiet and listened to the better part of his introduction. The other summoners to have arrived seemed intent in this matter as well as Amumu himself.
Childishly he raised his hand waiting for the steward to take notice so he could ask his question. "I uh... would like to know my exact role.... in well this situation." He had asked after being noticed feeling it would be easier to help if he knew what he had to do exactly.

The pair provided no resistance and both agreed to their assignment. Alexis was more than willing to go, nodding her assent the moment Ethan had asked for it, though Jessom was much less willing to do the same. With a grumble and a down-turned gaze, he agreed to his position. He would no longer need to carry mail around the Institute's winding, confusing halls.
Alexis' gaze returned to her stack of papers and files, then to the chest of requested materials behind them. Tomorrow was only a day away and their trip would no doubt be a hard one, but it was everything she wanted. It was her chance to shine. This was where she was set to make her legacy. This was the day she was going to uncover some great secret. She could barely contain herself.

Ethan turned from one to the next as the procession of summoners accepted their charge, and finally as Amumu too gave his consent. He turned to Jacob to first address his question. "We have not heard back from the outpost since the initial reading arrived." He gave a moment to pause before continuing. "We fear the worst, given the elements at play."
The Gold Steward Summoner turned next to the mummy, allowing a slight smile to curl his lips. "Due to your unique nature Amumu, you've been asked to go with the retinue of summoners primarily to defend them should anything happen. Think of yourself as their bodyguard. They'll be relying on you to ensure their safety. It certainly won't be an easy job, but we feel you are properly suited to the task." He neglected to mention the entirety of his reasoning not out of spite, but because they didn't bear mentioning. Perhaps the abandoned undead Yordle could glean something from the endeavor. A friend, ideally.
Once more addressing the group at large, he waved his hands and spoke again. "There will be a convoy ready to take you to the outpost tomorrow morning at dawn. Unless there are further questions...?" Ethan trailed off, allowing the ragtag band of men and women their time with the floor.

Jacob grinned at the prospects of adventure in mystery. It had been a long time since he had set out on an adventure like this. He slapped the table in excitement. "I shall prepare at once! Har!" he said loudly.

After everyone had stated their desire to go along Naiyu smiled and nodded her head. It seemed the trip was going along as planned so far. Her teacher seemed excited to go as well, most likely to get out and stretch his legs after all the paperwork they had gotten done all this week.
Naiyu shifted her legs and let out a small breath she wasn't fully aware she'd been holding. "...It seems we'll be ready...first thing tomorrow, then..."
