"You're not going alone. If you're going to go I'm going to go as well." Tekun responded as he felt some color drain from his face at the idea of it. He was unsure as to why but he felt a nameless fear surface in his heart. "If...you permit that. I don't know why Ashe, but hearing that name and seeing what the Frostguard is now. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stick up and my skin crawl. It wasn't always like that" He recomposed himself.
"The Ice Witch has been a rumor...from even when I was born. My father used to tell me tales but I'll be damned if I can even remember them. I remember a few details, enough to know where to not go and what to not trust."
Ashe shook her head, "Your Preservers need you there to build their strength." She wisely stepped away from the suggestion, the fact that Lissandra had been rather quiet these days. Though she had seen her forces during the Invasion, Tekun was right. There was something strange happening. She needed to be cautious, even more so than usual. "You are not alone in your fear," she said quietly. Not just children, but full grown adults had spoken of their concerns on the matters of the Ice Witch and she tended to agree with them.
"Freljord is a land full of blind faith and dark secrets," she said, her eyes wandering over to settle on the crackle of fire, "There are many tales and rumors we are told of, yet it is still difficult to discern what is real and what is not. There are other beings hidden in ice, other great forces that have yet to show themselves." Ashe nodded, as if reassuring herself, embracing some grim fate. "But as usual, we must learn to take this in our stride."

"While I do assume the position of Archon now, my men have my orders and the plan. They know what to. We are a military structure, my current second in command up here does not need me to hold his hand. We are not so broken that I need to hold the reigns in a death grip. Besides, it would benefit myself and The Preservers if I acted as a representative and moved to establish ties. Currently, she is an unknown as well and I would like to clear the air, so to speak." Tekun made his first point known.
"And secondly, I have a duty to fufill towards you. I have neglected Freljord for a while for my own personal aims . My heart... may have been in the right place but it felt wrong to neglect. I want to accompany you, if something happens up there and I allow my distrust to have gone unheeded, I don't think I could live with myself." The Immortal Soldier frowned. "That symbol...I don't know what it is, but something about it scares me. I don't know why though."
Ashe looked at Tekun pointedly, but she remained silent for the course of a few seconds. She was contemplating whether or not she should mention her thoughts, but before she could really decide, a sigh escaped her lips. If she couldn't even talk with her friend honestly, then there was nothing more to be done. Her fingers wrapped around the arm of her chair lightly. "I know," she said at first, then another breath of air before she continued, "But they still need a leader, especially when they are so recently without one."
She inclined her head, "Ah yes, duty." Ashe had heard the word too often, coming from her own mouth and from the voices of others. But as strong as her conviction seemed, she did not have the energy to argue. Or perhaps it was not that, but because she was somewhat relieved that Tekun had been so adamant. In truth, he was not the only one who was terrified of something they did not understand. "It seems I cannot sway your mind," again, a pause, "But I wonder if, when the time comes, you would obey my orders without question."

A silence fell between them for a moment, tension built before a sigh escaped her lips. She acknowledged his fear and he closed his eyes for a moment and furrowed his brow in contemplation. “They do need a leader.” He repeated and sighed just as she had. A leader needed to take initiative, act and listen. They needed to be a figure head and someone who could take the reins with a death grip right? But then another question came that caused him confusion and perhaps concern.
“I’ve been a soldier before. I know how to do that.” He answered simply and then paused. She wasn’t like the other leaders he’d worked with however he seemed to hesitate now in the after math; he rethought his statement. “If you’re absolutely sure about something, and you need me to just simply act then I know I can do whatever it is you need done.” He seemed more comfortable with his new choice of words.
Ashe merely nodded when Tekun's eyes closed. She did not give a response, only time for it to truly settle. She was familiar with this. With her mother's death, she was brought to leadership in no time at all, and in honesty, it was a trial that made her tremble. But the past was not in question right now. "I trust your judgment." She said, her voice calm yet firm, resolute in both decision and opinion. "All you must do is make a choice that will benefit the people you have been made responsible for."
The corners of her mouth lifted into a smile, even as Tekun seemed to retrace his sentence with different words. The meaning changed, but the thought behind it stayed the same. It was not a question of loyalty. With him, everything seemed adamant. She wasn't sure if she should continue down that path, even if the first step had been taken with her mild yet vocal contemplation. "I don't doubt it," was her soft response, the music of her tone somewhat melancholic now. "And what if what I require from you is not action, but a lack thereof?"

Genuine confusion flickered across his face for a brief moment before he snuffed it out with an overview of his own reasoning and words that followed that seemed sure enough.
"Well. Inaction in itself is an action of its own, although one I don't prefer because it shows you either don't care or aren't paying attention." Tekun laughed quietly enough. "If you require inaction, I can give it, no question asked though the temptation is there."
Ashe nodded. "I agree," then a pause. She still wasn't sure, but uncertainty was almost always an unacceptable feeling in times like this. She sighed, "I suppose we could leave that question for the time being." Her smile was small now, hesitant, almost as if she didn't know whether the expression was appropriate. "It would be unfair of me to ask you of such a thing, after all." She hoped that Tekun would understand and leave it at that. Though curiosity was always a fair trait she indulged in once in a while.
Her look turned just that. "What will your plans be for the Preservers once everything is, ah... settled?"

There was a smile and it eased him but that confusion resurfaced. His brow furrowed and he allowed it to surface in his silence as he thought. What was it she was exactly asking of him.
"...I'm not sure exactly what you are asking me to do. However, as for my plans with the Preservers, the best thing would be to see what we can do to bolster numbers and reorganize. I'll need to fill positions. This attack won't be the last. Freljord may be struck again, or maybe another city-state. After this, we strengthen ourselves."
"Then don't worry about it," she said reassuringly. Though her words were a precaution, Ashe doubted they needed to be seriously considered any time soon. "You will know when you need to."
She was still for a moment as she contemplated what Tekun had told her. She felt slightly foolish with her limited knowledge on the Preservers. She knew who they were and what they did, but not of their customs nor the intricacies of their ranks. Perhaps it was not in her place to ask. "So you will recruit those who are not from Freljord?" Ashe asked. That would be both an advantage and a disadvantage. If the Preservers were so clearly on Avarosan territory, it could be a new guiding light but at the same time, there were those who were not quite comfortable with inviting strangers into their walls.

"When I need to." He silently repeated back. Why bother hiding anything or not saying it unless it involved... It was best left unthought of or dwelled upon. He had something more pressing to answer than theory.
"We don't discriminate when we recruit; the Void is a threat to all. In the past, recruitment involved an evaluation of ability and a through background check. The group I brought up here has a mix of everyone. Demacian, Zaunite, Noxian, Ionian. We all have our differences but we all know that if we don't fight the Void is going to do worse than this. Xenophobia will damn us." Tekun insisted.
"As it stands, all of my men have fought and some have died for the defense of not just the Avarosan but all of Freljord. Hopefully, they've proven their worth to your people. Despite how bad the situation is, I've yet hear any reports of any disturbances between my men and your people."
It was true. The Void did not discriminate either, though she had heard that only Freljord had been targetted, most likely due to its location. On the other hand, there were stirrings near the south, sightings of the dead crawling from their graves. She shook her head; not at Tekun, but at herself. She could spare concern for other city states, but Freljord was at the forefront of her mind. "I am not against the idea personally," Ashe said, "Simply that I am uncertain if their presence will be welcome, especially so close to Rakelstake."
She paused, her eyes now on the fire place, watching the fire dance. "The last thing I want is unrest and a reason for people to riot or lose faith. Even the slightest breeze can topple a mountain, no matter how large it is, if the stones at the base are incomplete." Then she blinked, seemingly removing herself from her thoughts and she turned back to Tekun. "Please keep that in mind."

"Troubling." Tekun stated simply before looking towards the door and wondered if anyone else had managed to listen in on their words.
"Mercy isn't a weakness. The only people who would argue that are the ones who are either hypocritical or entirely ruthless. In most of my recent experiences, I find it to be a defining thing that separates us from the Void." He contemplated leaving or trying to find something lighter to speak of but then he remembered he'd always been bad at small talk.
"I think we need to start talking about something less grim and dark. I've always been awful at small talk. I think I've gotten better but it doesn't change the fact that I think I have the charismatic ability of a block of ice."
Ashe noted Tekun's glance and was quick to reassure whatever concerns he may have had. "The guards are simply there to stop unwanted visitors from loitering," she gestured with her uninjured hand, "But they are otherwise uninterested in our conversations and unless they press their ear to the walls, I very much doubt they can hear our conversation."
She nodded in agreement, though she did not vocalize it. "From the Void and from many other things," she spoke sincerely, smiling slightly at Tekun's moderate discomfort. Perhaps not at the conversation, but at the weight in which these words were spoken. Indeed, his confession followed this assumption. Ashe nodded once again, chuckling a little. "I don't think so, but yes, lets move away from such topics."
However, upon glancing up towards the fire once more, the Archer noted the low burning wood and the soft fire. They had been here for some time. "But maybe we should save such potential small talk for another time? It is getting quite late, and I fear I must be wide awake for what is to come tomorrow." Ashe grimaced subtly, "There are many concerns that I must attend to."
