Tao smiled as Aurus laughed to himself, making his observation known to the old master. He nodded wisely at the young man.
"Yes,It is so easy for one to forget that even if they are on the opposite end of a conflict, they are still people like you and me. They laugh, they cry, they fight for their home and family as much as we fight for ours. Those they leave behind still shed the same tears as we do when we mourn for our dead."
The old master stopped a nearby tree, with some of the leaves turning brown and dying.
"But sadly, not everyone wants to believe things like that during time of war and strife. All they see is those who must be destroyed for the name and glory of those that lead them."
He gazed at the tree a moment longer for continuing his way down the path.

Tao was right. Someone wept for every dead Noxian just like someone wept for every dead Ionian. And from that death would come sorrow, anger and revenge. A road he knew about.
He began to see how foolish his revenge was. By taking it, he would only continue the cycle. Soon, someone would of came for him, seeking the same revenge he had.
"It's so pointless." he thought out loud. Death leads to revenge, which leads to more death. It just a cycle of death and anger."

Tao looked over at Aurus and nodded. It seemed the boy was beginning to understand. It showed he was truly capable to turning his back to the dark road he was traveling down.
"Though, it isn't death boy. Death is a natural part of the cycle of life. Killing, robbing those of their life, that is what starts the cycle of revenge and retaliation. Whatever the reason, regardless if we had no choice in the matter, there will be those who will seek to strike back. It is our responsibility to accept that when ever we take up arms to strike down another."
He turned around and faced Aurus. A light breeze tugged at his clothes and hair as he spoke.
"I call it the "Warrior's Burden". For those who fight will eventually have to draw the line on when to kill, or not to kill. Myself, I only kill when there is no other option left. It is a hard lesson indeed."

Had Tao asked Aurus about killing a few months ago, he would of whole-heartedly agreed with him. But now he was unsure of it.
"...I almost killed someone. That women I mentioned. I was ready to without a thought...but I hesitated."
He wanted to say that he would never kill, that he would spare every enemy he met, but he knew he couldn't. As Tao had said, it is the Warrior's Burden. It was inevitable. All he could do was prepare.

Tao looked at the boy as he spoke, he had his arm's crossed in his sleeves as he considered his words.
"There were worse things you could of done in that situation. Do you regret you hesitation?"
To answer the next question Tao's voice remained it's ever so calm and matter of fact tone.
"No it's not hard at all, killing is actually quite easy. Life is so fragile it can easily be cut, torn, beaten and bled from people. It is actually quite the opposite, the hardest part is choosing when not to kill."

"Oh, my apologies. I misunderstood you."
Tao looked up at the sky as he considered his words for a moment.
"It is hard, taking a life is a difficult choice to make, one that you can never take back. As for my burden, I can not allow the lives I stolen to way me down, that is why I resolve myself to continue living in respects to their memories."
He gazed at Aurus with a gentle smile.
"To those who fight, killing is inevitable. But how they deal with it is what separates them. Tell me, how will you handle it yourself?"

"Deal with it? I have no idea." he paused to sit on a rock on the road.
"I guess I won't really know until I cross that line." He gave his master a sad smile. "I've shouldered enough pain already. I guess some more won't hurt too much."
Post by Tao Fei Long on Sept 23, 2013 3:30:50 GMT -5
"That was a good answer boy."
Tao placed his hands behind his back and faced Aurus as he sat perched on that rock.
"We never really do know till we cross that line, all we can do is hope for the best."
At the second statement Aurus made, Tao shook his head.
"No Aurus, pain is not a burden to weigh you down. Pain is is the one of the fires that forges us into who we are. Embrace the pain, learn from it, adapt to it, let it make you stronger."
The master looked towards the heavens with a sad look etched into his features, making the old man look even more ancient.
"It pained me greatly when I lost my children. As much as I wanted to wallow in sadness, I realized it would be a detriment to their memory if I did so. Instead I strove to be that much better, so that they may look at me from wherever they rest and still see the father that they looked up to so long ago."
Tao looked back at his pupil and frowned slightly.
"It's a complicated subject to talk about, but I hope you understand what I mean by my words."

Watching his master lament made Aurus understand why his parents had did what they did. A parent loves their child unconditionally, to the point that they will do anything for them, no matter the cost. His parents had died so that he could live and looking at Tao, he knew he would of done the same for his children if he could.
"I thin I do Master. My parents sacrificed themselves so that I may live my own life. They wouldn't want me spending my life trying to get revenge. If I want to honour them, I must not look at the past...but walk for the future."
They had given up everything so he could continue on his life. And he was going to do just that.

Tao gave Aurus a gentle smile and nodded. He walked over to the boy and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Very well spoken, but saying it is one thing, but I believe you have the will and fortitude to walk the path of your choosing."
He lowered his arm and stroked his beard.
"You have grown a lot since we began this little journey of ours. But you have the potential for so much more growth on top of that, I look forward to see where the path you forges takes you."

Aurus stood from the rock. A strange sense of clarity fell on him. The world around him seemed different. The sun felt a little brighter and warmer. The grass looked more alive and air seemed to carry a gentleness he had not felt in a long time.
He turned to his Master, the man that had helped him find this peace. He bowed before him. 'Thank you Master." he said, his voice filled with joy and gratefulness. "You have shown me things I never thought I could never find again."

Tao returned the bow with a gentle smile. He could see the change that the man went through and knew that he was on the right path, his own path. The old man gestured around them as he spoke.
"The world is a large and wondrous place, we must take the good along with the bad as we travel our path through life. You have grown and changed so much in the short time we spent together, and I am sure you will continue to do so as you forge your own path."
The master looked over at one of the larger trees, the bark was worn away as he remember his days of solo training. He returned his attention to Aurus.
"Tell me, what will you do now with your new found knowledge."

"Well...I want to travel." he replied. "You are right, this world is big and wonderful, and I haven't even seen all of Ionia. And even the parts I have see, I wish to see again."
For the first time and a long while, Aurus felt good about his future. Like he could truly find his place in this world.

Tao smiled at the young mans words. It was times like this where he felt like he made a difference in this world.
"You never know boy, you may find the landscape quite pleasing now that you will be seeing it in a new light."
Tao placed a hand on one of the trees, the bark long worn off and there were some serious dents in it's flesh. It was a resilient breed of tree, just like the old man himself.
"I know I did."
