"Even a bird may thrive under the shadow of a lie."
Name:
Yamizawa Kin.
Alias:
Hakumei [Faint Light] // Haku.
Class:
Assassin // Shadow Ninja.
Race:
Human.
Age:
23.
Occupation:
Bandit // Thief.
Residence:
Shurima Desert.
Alignment:
Chaotic Neutral.
Abilities:
Weapons:
Kin's main weapon is a modified kusari-gama. Instead of a heavy weight, a sickle or kama similar to the one on the other end replaces it. It is undecorated but kept sharp and in clean condition. Kin has taken to wrapping leather strips around the handle for a firmer grip. The chain reaches 2.5 meters, but Kin can extend it to at least another meter with severe time constraints.
She's been using this kind of weapon for most of her childhood, though more of a tool if anything. She trained herself with a normal kusari-gama when she moved to Northern Ionia but disliked the heavy weight at the end of the chain and opted for another sickle instead. Kin only began to hone her skills when she joined the Order of Shadows. The holes punctured into the sickle themselves produces a 'singing' sound when swung around due to the air being passed through it.
Skills:
[Passive]
Name: Deadly Poison.
Type: DoT (Poison damage).
Duration/Damage: Ticks for a small amount of damage per second over 4 seconds, but deals triple the damage if target is stunned or snared.
Range: Melee range.
Limit: Can only be applied once per target every 6 seconds.
Description: Kin coats the ends of her sickle blades with a special venom extracted from the stingers of Shurima scorpions. She uses the disciplines taught by the Shadow Order to take advantage of every weakness in order to gain an advantage.
[Q]
Name: Twin Blades.
Type: Physical Damage.
Duration/Damage: Depending on the speed and strength of the throw, damage varies. The kama can impale the target but cannot cut through them. It cannot cut through most armors and the maximum damage it can do is cause heavy bleeding and severe injuries.
Range: Up to 2.5 meters (or however long the chain is).
Limit: The initial throw can be used as her basic attack, but the double hit has a 10 second cooldown.
Description: Kin throws one kama to her target and can retract it to throw the other one in one second. If it hits the target in the exact same location, it will deal double damage.
[W]
Name: Shadow Bonds.
Type: Bind.
Duration: The initial binding takes 1 second to complete, where the target is still capable of moving. When the target is fully bound, the bind renders them immobile for 1.5-2.5 seconds where they cannot move or attack.
Range: 2.5-3.5 meters (shadow links).
Limit: 15 second cooldown.
Description: Kin can use her chains to bind the target. If she uses her shadow links, the range is increased but the bind duration is reduced by 1 second. Targets can break free from the initial binding but the chains get tighter as the second ticks.
[E]
Name: Singing Sickles.
Type: Physical Damage.
Duration/Damage: The windup can last up to 3 seconds. The damage from both the left and right individual cuts are shallow, flesh wounds at best. The simultaneous cut can slice through most protection save for heavy armor. Though it cannot cut someone's body in half, it can rip through skin and flesh fairly easily.
Range: 1 meter (unable to shadow chain this skill).
Limit: 20-25 second cooldown. Fairly easy to dodge at close range and the windup is noticeable.
Description: Kin alternates swinging both sickle ends to gain momentum, mimicking fans before twirling usually the right sickle first from right to left in a horizontal cutting motion. This is quickly followed by the left sickle cutting from left to right in the same motion. Pulling the sickles once more, they travel in the opposite direction to their original position so they cut at the same time. This increases the cooldown by 5 seconds.
[R]
Name: Blades of Deception.
Type: Physical damage (+Bleed)
Duration/Damage: The shadows last for up to 20 seconds, but as soon as one makes contact, Kin has a window of 5 seconds to pull herself to her opponent per shadow. Pull time ranges from 1-3 seconds. Damage done on the initial hit can severely wound at max speed, where the impact lessens when the seconds increase. The bonus damage may include internal bleeding if struck in the right place.
Range: 3.5 meters at max range.
Limit: 60 second cooldown // 6 post cooldown.
Description: Kin manifests the shadows which mimic the shape of her scythes and chains. Though they are given solid form, they have no edge and cannot damage opponents. Upon contact with the shadow, Kin can pull herself towards the target and attack with her real scythes. The speed in which she pulls herself towards her target increases the damage done. If the scythe is impaled through the image of the shadow, it deals bonus damage.
Ninja Arts & Shadows:
Kin is, as stated, very proficient with her kusari-gama, boasting techniques that have been learned and mastered over the course of 7 years. She is also skilled in hand-to-hand combat but lacks any real skill in throwing weapons.
As part of her basic training with the Shadow Order, Kin has the ability to create one shadow clone. She can direct this shadow to move, but it cannot attack or perform abilities. Kin can keep the shadow up for an unknown period of time, though she must be concentrating. She is not skilled enough to fight and control her shadow clone at the same time. It is mainly used to scout, though it cannot relay sights to her, only presences.
She is also capable of creating shadow links between her kamas (sickles) in order to extend their range and images of said sickles.
Others:
As her job requires her to be rather quick, she boasts speed along with upper body strength to use her weapon. Unfortunately, she lacks the stamina to perform at optimal level for long periods of time and quickly runs out of energy when running at full speed.
Her ninjutsu training has also taught her how to hide, and how to wait and strike at the perfect opportunity. Though she is not able to mold herself as one with the shadows or cloak to remain unseen, she has learned the values of a clean and silent cut.
Relationships:
Family:
Gedric Wicker; father: A Demacian soldier who did not agree with the monarchy and of the reason for marriage 28 years ago between Lady Catherine Lightshield and King Jarvan III, which happened out of political need rather than love. Gedric left for the Capital of Ionia shortly after the ceremony, having just enough money to pay for the boat ride there. He began his new life by helping farmers with their work and other small tasks, staying at a local inn and helped pay off rent by doing odd jobs there too. He was 30 by the time he had made enough money to buy a modest house in Navori. There he met Tori and fell in love. Gedric was almost 7 years her elder, but at the age of 35, he finally won her heart and hand in marriage. Killed by the Order of Shadows.
Yamizawa Tori; mother: The daughter of a teashop owner, her family were modestly well off. Their small business was popular in the rural areas of Ionia. At 23, her father was urging her to get married and that she cannot keep her beauty and purity forever. Tori tended to disagree with him, if only because of her stubborn nature and her childish ideals of a true love. She turned down many suitors, whom she knew simply wanted to marry her for her family's supposed wealth. Her family had precious gold rings handed down through their generations, becoming more of an heirloom than as things to sell. However, when she met Gedric and married him at a 'rotten' age of 28, she used some of it to afford a bigger house and two years later, she gave birth to Kin. Killed by the Order of Shadows.
Allies:
Ray Famas: Business partner.
James Hyers: Business partner.
Champions:
Zed, the Master of Shadows: Grew to see him as someone she hated to respect, for the conviction of his ideals and his strength.
Description:
Overall;
At 5'6", Kin is relatively tall for an Ionian girl, courtesy of the Demacian blood running through her veins. Despite being nimble, her arms are not as wiry as some people may first think. Climbing trees, swimming and swordplay helped to build her upper body strength. She is not yet tanned from Shurima's climate, though her skin is quickly losing its natural pale tone. Her frame is still slight, with long legs and a flat stomach and a modest-sized bust though her attire does well in hiding her feminine form. Many consider her features androgynous and for the most part, she prefers it that way.
Befitting of her name, Kin's hair and eyes are both golden. Her hair is roughly cut and untamed. She keeps the majority of it (messily) tied up but when let down, it runs just beneath her shoulder blades save for a thin group that run beneath the main layer of locks. One on the right and one on the left, she normally braids these two. One with violet bands, for her mother and the other with dark blue for her father. These are not tied up and can usually be seen with stray strands. Kin uses the material from her the hood of her cloak as a crudely made bandana.
Clothes;
Her attire consists of very lightweight cotton shirts, its design mimicking that of Ionian wear with simple buttons at its sides. The sleeveless shirt extends all the way up to her neck. She has pants made out of heavier material to keep snakes, scorpions and sand out. She wears leather boots for the exact same reason, always tightly laced up with the ends of her pants neatly tucked in, just over light socks. Most of her gear was purchased from a band of travelling merchants by selling some of the golden rings she had taken.
Colored in black or white, Kin is careful to keep her sets of clothing in good condition. This is mostly due to the fact that the long, white linen cloak she had kept from Ionia has been tattered beyond belief and she has learned her lesson. She wears it mostly as a scarf now, to protect her bare shoulders from the heat of the desert sun. The longest end of her cloak reaches to just below her knees, though the fabric is so shredded, it is difficult to tell with so many uneven edges.
Accessories;
Though her hair usually covers it most of the time, Kin has her left ear pierced - two on her lobe and one at the very top. Her snake-shaped piercing covers all three. She claims there is no significant meaning for the snake, though she seems to be very protective of it - or just her ears in general.
The golden colored rings that pierce her cloak are fake - as if mocking the way people used to call her 'golden girl'. They were made by a jeweler who was attempting to pass them off as real, and though she 'purchased' all of them, she gave their maker a lesson he would never forget. She also acquired a black armband stylized as a reverse crown with fake ruby tips. To her, it was the symbol of a fallen monarchy, much like what her father told her. The fake rings themselves symbolize the days of lies and her promise to remain faithful to her words.
What is perhaps most striking out of her accessories is the black mask with white stripes she wears constantly. This is to keep her identity a secret when she is around strangers. The mask appears to be made out of cotton, and almost seems to merge with the neck of her top. Accompanying this is what appears to be the front of a helm, though it is actually made out of leather. It is stitched to a strip of material separate from her bandanna and is lowered to allow some shade against the sun and to nullify sandstorms should they arise.
Markings;
The only significant markings she has is on both her forearms. With a scar on one arm, Kin had a red stripe tattooed over it then did the other one for 'symmetry' and 'balance'. A subtle mocking to Zed's disapproval of such concepts.
Biography:
Childhood:
She was born with a tuft of light blonde hair, thanks to her Demacian father's own locks. What was more surprising was her golden eyes. Where her parents held blue and brown, her father reassured his wife that gold was the color of royals back in Demacia and that they should consider it a gift. She was given the name 'Kin', which of course, was the colors of her birth. Despite the name suiting her all too well, she found that the children she attempted to befriend found it 'freaky' and 'strange'.
Her blonde hair quickly turned dark gold by the age of five, almost the same shade as her eyes and Kin found no rest in the merciless teasing of her peers. Despite Novari being quite close to the capital, there were mostly farmers who made their living there just as her father did. She was called the lone golden tiger, and with it came the mocking growls and roars. Kin occupied herself with fake swordplay which her father taught her. Though his days of fighting were over, his time in the Demacian military still gave him some tricks to teach. Her skills with sticks were poor and she was clumsy with them. However, she found a sickle amongst her father's farming tools. Though she was forbidden from using it, she disobeyed whenever she could.
Kin expressed great interest in the martial arts, though she couldn't be considered a prodigy. She enjoyed catching fish in their habitat before releasing them back into the streams and on occasion, she would climb the trees out in the woods beyond her home to find eggs to take back home to be cooked and eaten as a treat. She used the blade of the sickle and tied a wiry rope around the end and used it to cut beehives down to collect their honey without being stung.
One day, she wandered too far out and and had the misfortune of coming face to face with a tiger. It was relatively old and it looked starved, but Kin could not fight it. She managed to scale a tree with just a single scratch on her right forearm and stayed there until nightfall when the tiger, too old to climb, grew tired of waiting for its prey.
Her return home and her retelling of her tale - where she had bravely fought off the nimble young beast with only a mere scratch to show for it worried her parents further. Though it was clearly a short but deep wound, Kin appeared unaffected by it and was excited to tell the story to her peers. The tale was, unsurprisingly, met with the cry of liar. The other children knew of the old tiger who prowled the woods, the only one remaining in these parts and Kin found herself further ostracized.
Teens:
When Kin was 14, the bullying had ceased though she remained friendless. Her tendency to lie had only grown stronger and she knew her parents knew it. They never called her out for it, and her habit festered. It was only when even the neighboring families complained about her inability to tell the truth did they make the decision to move to the northern parts of Ionia. They used some of her mother's heirlooms to pay for a relatively small house in the outskirts and here, Kin befriended a few Ionians who were around her age. The main interest that held them all together was the martial arts, and she and her companions visited various temples including the Hirana Monastary. She acquired a proper kusari-gama and 'trained' with her companions, though they were taught never to harm a living creature.
In 16 CLE, Zed and his then, small band of Shadow Ninjas attacked a neighboring village who strongly supported the Twilight Order situated in Northern Ionia. Kin's parents were very much against the ideals Zed brought along with much of the countryside though her father was perhaps the most vocal. He took it upon himself to campaign against the Shadow and openly mocked their cowardice and belief. Though he was not born Ionian, many agreed with him. It was then, not four months later, did Kin find herself amongst the burned remains of her house and her parents' blood-soaked bodies beside her. She told the Shadows, who stood with their weapons glimmering crimson, to spare her. Kin found herself uttering her last lie as she stated with defiance, that they deserved to die for being weak. Her years of untruths paid off as the Shadows took her in.
Kin blamed her father at first for her parents' deaths, for speaking out against Zed and his order but the resentment was short-lived. In this time she adopted her mother's surname as her own, knowing that to survive, she must act as one of them although she had given a false name: Hakumei.
Training:
When she was first accepted into the 'clan' at 16, there was no mention of their goals. Only that Zed was their Master and that he had acquired a great power which he sought to teach those who were faithful to him and his ideals. Though Kin knew nothing of these beliefs, she followed in both blind fear and blind faith. Her amateur skills with a kusari-gama paid little dividends as she found herself learning from scratch. She learned to fight with a double-ended chain sickle. The training was brutal and it tested both her physical and mental capacity to the limits. The only thing that kept her going was the single hope that one day, she could repay her respects to her parents and to remove the stain that she herself had spread upon their honor.
In 17 CLE, when she was deemed 'capable', she was taught the basics of ninjutsu. Though Kin was never interested in learning this, she made it an effort to understand the 18 disciplines that came with it. Of course, kusarigamajustsu was the main focus of her training though she expressed a similar understanding in taijutsu - or hand to hand combat. What she lacked in stealth and impersonation, she made up for with quick and strong attacks.
Two years later, when her training had only just begun to test her limits, Kin found the Shadow Clan on the move. They had been hiding in wait, biding their time. Not for when the Twilight was at their weakest, but when the Shadow thought themselves stronger did they move in on their prey. With it, she found herself staining the blades of her scythes in the very same crimson that mirrored her parents. Ever since the attack on her village, she had been ignorant of the Shadow's movements, never participating in other possible massacres. In 19 CLE, the Twilight Order fell and with it, the gravity of her situation and who she was crushed any and all feeling.
Kin found no joy in Zed's victory as many in their Clan did. She didn't feel much of anything, the bodies of people lying about the stone courtyard and Shadows, with their blades, slitting throats left and right floating about her memories every time she closed her eyes. But her state was rewarded. Though she was no skilled warrior, her skill with the kusari-gama had caught the attentions of a ranked acolyte who sought to teach her the basics of shadow cloning and shadow manipulation whilst continuing her ninjutsu training all the while.
Again, her kusari-gama was the main focus of this 'training'. She was taught how to bend her talents and merge it with her weapon - an extension of limb, they called it. To not fear the shadow, but embrace it and use it. Her shadow clone was first done after a year of discipline and many pains exhausting her mind. The shadow chains came next, though it seemed she would only be taught how to manifest them with her kusari-gama and finally, the scythes themselves. She was not taught how to give her shadow a weapon or to give her shadow sight - the acolyte refused to teach her, saying that it was only when she proved herself would she be given that opportunity.
She stayed with the order for almost 4 years before a strange hooded man approached her one day with a 'request' of sorts.
Defection:
The man first told her of vast treasures buried deep within the sand of the Shurima Desert, but one such treasure required three keys. He told her that one such key can be found within Ionia, near the Order. It was nothing special, he reassured, just valuable to those who knew what it unlocked. He gave her a sketch of the object, along with a rather large sack of gold. He said that what he had given her was only a fraction of what the treasures could offer. Kin agreed to help, almost immediately, for the gold was too tempting an offer to refuse and if the man was telling the truth, she would never have to return to her false life.
Kin followed rumors and facts for weeks, searching beneath the ruins of what used to be the Twilight Order. The key was found eventually and with little trouble, and with the gold she was given, she hastily left Ionia on a ship just as her father had done many years ago. She brought few belongings with her - the clothes on her back along with a white cloak, the heirlooms left by her mother - hidden in a cellar and untouched by the fires - and the gold she had been given and the key she had found.
Her travel to Shurima was rough, as Kin had never been on the mainland before. She lived off roadside taverns and even purchased a crudely drawn map. A couple of months passed before she found the desert and the man who had promised her a great many things, though he was not alone. She realized the deception too late - that the man was not a person of importance, but simply a pawn. She worked with the two others, whom she would come to know as Ray and James, to cut down the men and their leader before claiming their place of operation for their own.
Present:
It has been a mere two months, but Kin has found unlikely allies in Ray Famas, the trigger-happy gunman from Piltover and even more surprisingly, James Hyers, a mage from Noxus. Their joint effort in slaying their deceivers has made her both wary and appreciative of their skills, though their motives still remain cloudy to her. She does not trust them with her life, though she has found odd amusement in their company.
Kin knows she cannot return to Ionia, for Zed and his Order would surely seek her life. However, she has realized that she has yet to honor her parents' memory though the lessons she had been taught within her time in the Order leaves her vastly conflicted. Though she was not born with the thirst for blood, she uses the skills she has acquired for her own motivations and reasons and appears to have no sympathy for those she cuts down.
"Do not pity the liars but the honest, for they will never know." - Kin.
