The trip had been uneventful beyond the avalanche that had plagued the two, although the storm had barely let up and visibility was poor at the very best. Somehow the warrior found his way through the ice and snow and found his path upon the mountain, well-worn though covered well. Somehow it lasted despite the elements it had endured. Tekun, as he had many times before this followed it to a higher elevation and the two proceeded from there.
Hours passed and it seemed like the path was becoming more and more treacherous despite the fact they had escaped their previous conditions. The snow had let up and the visibility had become significantly better. It didn’t take long for Tekun to reach his destination. It was an overhanging cliff that extended only slightly outwards before the tundra. The view from here was fantastic and on a clear day one could see for miles on end. It wasn’t just that there was a cliff-side, there was something else. A small cave that looked like someone of Tekun’s stature could squeeze through. It was dark, its contents within a mystery.
“This is part of the spot.” Tekun took the time to rest, sitting against the rocky wall of the mountain and gazed out into the distance. He couldn’t see far, but he could see far enough. “…There’s more in there. I’m not sure if you can fit. If you’re willing to risk getting stuck you’re welcome to look. If not, I’ll bring out a souvenir.”

It had been centuries since Anivia was forced to walk from mountain to mountain within her own domain. The change of pace, while not unwelcome gave her an entirely new perspective on the the world. Every peak seemed taller, the space between them larger, and every small stone and formation of rocks more significant. The world stood still under the falling snow, awaiting the travelers to pass.
Anivia kept to Tekun's left side when there was space, and followed behind when there was not. Her right wing was now frozen fast to her body, radiating a dull white light as she walked. It would heal in time, and time was one thing Anivia rarely lacked. Tekun had kept their destination a secret, though she doubted it would be easy to describe in any case. Besides the occasional chat, they traveled in a serene silence, muted as the winter air.
Finally, Tekun led her to the face of a cliff. She looked back over the mountain range with a sense of amusement: it was by far the best view they had come across, but it could not compare to the vantage of a soaring phoenix. "The world is a beautiful place. It is easy to forget as we rush about our busy routines and duties." She eyed the crack in the wall suspiciously. One needn't travel far in the Ironspikes to find a vista such as this. What ever lied in the cave must be his true goal in coming here. "I think I should be able to manage." She poked her head through the crack and, exhaling mightily, squeezed easily to the other side where she waited for her eyes to adjust to the dimness of the cavern.

Tekun removed a small torch which illuminated the darkness. The interior of the cavern seemed to shine as the light bounced off the cavern walls giving some places here and there within the cave that of a mirror like surface. It was certainly not what one would have expected. The place was small, but it looked like it had been somewhat mined out over the course of a very long time. Upon closer examination of the wall, there was in fact some kind of non-traditional gemstone imbedded in the side of the walls here and there. Some spots were more prominent than others, forming larger crystalline structures but it was apparent that it was almost everywhere within here.
Tekun smiled and began moving further in the small chamber to something growing within the interior of the cavern. It looked to be several flowers that resembled that of a rose. The flower’s peddles were blue and appeared to be almost crystalline as if the plant itself were made of ice. It was a small and delicate looking thing.
“...This flower is very rare…It’s called the Freljordian Rose. It grows only under the harshest conditions and is said to be magical in nature.”

Anivia marvels at the natural beauty of the cavern. In the midsts of a world of ice, here was a crystalline cavern of rock. Once again, her mind turned to her past. Those with power over the earth often surrounded themselves with such displays, but this world was without such protectors. She leans down close to the flowers growing inside the cavern, smiling inwardly. Despite its crystalline appearance, the plant was still very much alive and growing despite the conditions. A flower that thrives in the darkness of a cavern high in the frozen Ironspikes Mountains. Life always found a way of enduring. "Tekun... How did you come across such a place?"

“A long time ago, in my youth, my tribe used this path. I think they used this path. It’s barely changed.” How long ago was that? He was no longer sure.
“…Every now and then I come back.” He dug through his cloak and removed a small container that appeared to be made of glass and began to gently harvest one of these few flowers. He removed it from the cold ground and placed it within the glass case. “I sometimes harvest one of these flowers. There’s someone I wanted to give this particular one to. Don’t worry; I know it will come back. This plant is resilient, quite so.” He smiled as he placed the small container back into the confines of his cloak.
“…I can’t remember the exact details of how I stumbled across it. I think I was just on the path one day and noticed something different and investigated.”

Anivia’s eyes narrowed in concern as her new friend stumbled through his description. Could it be that... “You often struggle to remember your past, don’t you?” There were very few creatures that Anivia had met who were designed for immortality, and those with extended life rarely wore it so easily as Tekun. Perhaps he had his limits as well.
With a shake of her feathers, a blast of cold air sweeps through the room. A thin frost coats the crystalline walls of the cavern, its delicate patterns intensifying the otherworldly beauty of the cavern. Near Tekun’s boot, a small bud begins to grow from a rock’s tip. Upon reaching the top of his foot, a pristine flower of pure ice takes shape. “It is best to give back when we take from such a place.”
“Such is my way Anivia.” Tekun’s expression became sullen at the mention and his lips turned downwards into a frown, though his tone didn’t change it was a troubling thought. “It comes back sometimes but more often than not it becomes blended with everything else I have experienced. Most of the time it’s muddy and hard to see, like looking at vague images that are just out of reach.”
His eyes fell upon the bud that sprouted after Anivia apparently summoned a cold wind that swept through the cavern with the slightest bit of a howl. The bud was as reflective as a mirror and almost immediately sprouted into adult hood. As he watched the beautiful site his mouth went slightly agape. How did she do that? He did muster an answer to her.
“…I agree. I…remember that these flowers are part of the reason I return. I don’t know how you did that but thank you.” His eyes fell upon the cavern. “I intend to stay here a bit longer…you don’t mind do you?”

So it was true then... immortality as a blessing and a curse. Centuries of life must have simply been too much for the human mind to recall. She nods once sympathetically at the man’s fate, but remains otherwise quiet on the subject. If he wanted to discuss his apparent immortality and the problems that came with it, he could ask her in time.
At the look of surprise on Tekun’s face, Anivia’s own eyes shine somewhat brighter. Though her face remains impossible to read, a hint of mirth is apparent in her voice, “Sometimes we forget that there is more than raw power in this world of struggle. This is a place of beauty through precision. I’ve merely added my own. Perhaps you can find a way to leave your own mark.” She turns toward the entrance, slowly making back out of the tight cavern. Despite its beauty, confinement of the cavern made her uncomfortable. “I have all the time in the world, Tekun. I will let you warm up in here.”

Some time later, Tekun feels another cool wind blow through the cavern once more. Squeezing through the narrow entrance, his gaze is transfixed by a sight rarely seen in the Freljord: for the first time in month, the sky had cleared completely. The sun sat as a perfect orb, nestled between two of the great Ironspike peaks. Tekun takes several steps forward marveling at the sight, the snow crunching softly under his feet, before another gust of wind blows up the mountainside. A multitude of crystalline flowers bend with the wind, catching and reflecting the brilliant red light of the sun on their many facets in a twinkling interplay of fire and ice. At a loss for words, Tekun glanced around the hillside, but the Cryophoenix was nowhere in sight. A single avian cry rung out from the hills, its source hidden by echoes.
