March 26, 23CLE Piltover, Northside, Coffee Shop 10:00AM
Caitlyn was sitting next to a corner table, sipping her coffee and reading the morning news. For the past few days, the city was quiet. There wasn't too much to worry about and she and Vi were handling things quick and easy.
However, the silence was not a peaceful one. Tales of the battle of the Freljord reached Piltover with the PMC who returned and they were perilous. Caitlyn already started planning ahead. It was her duty to protect her city, and so she will.

It was finally the first time he could get coffee that wasn't the usual chum offered at the hospital, and so Cpt. Winters found himself outside his favorite coffee shop, taking a nice sip out of his Noxian Vanilla cappuccino.
He left for the shop so quickly, he forgot to fully polish his uniform, though it was hardly noticeable: the gleaming silver bars that indicated his rank of Captain shined in contrast to his name-tag, which was a dull gold and gray color job, with the name "Winters" embossed in white on top.
He looked for a place to sit, and noticed somebody... who was none other than the famed sheriff herself. He realized that he could perhaps relate his concerns for the Company to her; knowing her connections to Parliament, it was possible she could perhaps get the Progressive government to make something happen.
He walked to her table, and nodded, asking, "Hello, there miss - mind if I sit with you?"

"Sometimes, ordinary people can do extraordinary things: Medics need to do that everyday." -Captain Winters
"In this world, we're a team. There is no I in team, simple as that. We either work as one, or we all fail, all seperate from each other." -Lieutenant Hixon

Caitlyn lifted her gaze from the newspaper and her eyes fell upon the person. Judging his uniform, she immediately identified him as a member of the PMC and his name tag stated "Winters" while his rank stated "Captain". She nodded. "Of course. Members of the PMC are always welcome in my company. Captain Winters now hmm? Aren't you one of the medics they sent into the Freljord?"
Caitlyn said, already calling the waitress so she may take another order and maybe for Winters too.

Winters nodded, a small smile on his face; he enjoyed being in civilian company for once.
"Well, you would be right on that one, miss," he replied, upon which he took the seat immediately opposite that of the Sheriff across the table.
He took another sip from his coffee before setting it down, releasing a somewhat heavy sigh; it was clear something bothered him.
"A lot of people have been asking those in the Company, ah, how it was like to serve in that field of battle; well, truth be told, as our first combat mission it was tense. A few of us had close shaves, and I think we nearly lost a corpsman; but even though we all wound up making it a-okay in the end" - he grimaced for a moment at that last statement; his memory of nearly being crushed to death by the Cryophoenix left a rather poor memory - "we found out that we really... how to say it... lacked a really important defensive mechanism I feel really could have made our mission a lot less risky for our men."

The waitress arrived and Caitlyn ordered a refill for her coffee. Tiredness fell on her a couple of days ago and she felt like she needed that extra kick. She listened carefully to Winters and judged his words in her minds. Whenever his expression changed she wondered, when he grimaced it bothered her.
"I can understand your concern..." Caitlyn stated. Some worry in her voice. "...But I need to know more before I can tell you anything else, Captain. It is important for me to know how was the experience of fighting the Void. This is the kind of information that we seek to defend our city."

Winters could only give a long drawn-out sigh upon hearing the Sheriff's request; he figured this would be asked sooner than later... for the better.
"Well, the main issue fighting the void is pretty much what I just said: the lack of a protective, well anything, really, made us feel that we were just unable to do our jobs with any thought of certainty, much less confidence."
"Our arms could handle them, but we didn't have much in terms of actually protecting ourselves when the enemy got close - and they did a couple of times - resulting in some of our men taking some hits, and one getting hit with the Voidal corruption. Thankfully, the Anti-Voidal Biotic did its job and we got to him fast enough, though again the necessity for some kind of body protection reared its ugly head again."
"Some of the Void forces were more difficult to combat, however; they could take far more shots than we initially expected, and some of them were able to break through our line on the flank, necessitating our men to break our main line of fire to be able to hold off the side threat."
"The amount of specific needs is long enough to make its own sheet on the Piltovian records, in all honesty, but to summarize it there are two needs: a strong, powerful, efficient, reliable defense mechanism, that our men can wear to protect themselves, and a more adaptable form of ammunition, which will allow the men to combat a greater range of threats."

Caitlyn listened carefully, nodding through the conversation, gradually diminishing her newly replenished coffee mug. When Winters finished his report, Caitlyn took out a small notepad she carried everywhere, and a pen. She crossed her legs and prepared the notepad, writing some stuff in it. She looked up to Winters and replied.
"That sounds terrifying. I can't imagine what horrors you faced in the Freljord. However, for further information, I'd like you to describe the voidlings. I have some contacts in the current government and I know what you mean about not being equipped enough. We would most definitely need a better form of protection... And as far as I know from my time in the league, the main voidlings have hard carapaces that are as tough as plate armor.
But first, I need to know about some of the more common voidlings. Would you mind to describe them? If its not a bother of course." Caitlyn asked, intrigued about the Void. She planned to scribble down the voidlings and their parts on her notepad.

Winters took another sip of his coffee, before pausing a moment to think over his answer.
"Well, they pretty much were the same voidlings that Malzahar called upon on the fields, if my memory serves correct: a deep purple, legs and arms that double as claws, multiple sets of eyes, a mouth that wasn't visible, but gave a shuddering feeling if you saw it... I really can't do much of a better job than the way the recordings of past matches Malzahar was called in show."
He took up his coffee, but did not drink out of it this time; the memories of the battle were beginning to echo in his mind again.

Caitlyn scribbled down the Voidlings she remembered from her time at the League, as well as giving off details in the form of notes at the end of arrows.
"These things can pierce leather armor with ease and plate armor with a bit of effort from as far as I know. Their carapaces are strong... They are armored and their eyes are like crystals... Three eyes if I'm not wrong."
She took a while to think before continuing. "Were there different Voidlings? Did the champions of the Void that the league had under lockdown participate?"

Winters gave a polite nod at the Sheriff's own description, bringing his cup of coffee up to take another sip, when his memory fleetingly came back.
The voidling who managed to reach their ledge, almost managing to kill Simmonds before he reacted and knocked him back off.
The memory finished as soon as it started, and he was back looking at the Sheriff again, who began to ask him another question. He listened, before putting down his cup and replying.
"Yeah, there were some different types we encountered. Chargers, Jumpers, Elder Voidlings, a whole family it could be called at this point. There's a few of them, but trying to describe them all out of my memory's more than I can pull off at this time. I got a few files on them, though," and with that he pulled out a folder labelled 'Voidling Types - CLASSIFIED' and silently slid the folder over to the Sheriff.
"As to the champions, our zone of engagement did not encounter any, though we have confirmed reports that they were in the fray," Winters finished, picking up his coffee again and taking another sip.

Caitlyn opened the folder and closed it after a few brief looks. "If you don't mind I'll take this folder. I'll send it to the Piltovian archives then return it it to you if its not a bother. Also I'm sure that whatever we can come up with will have this folder be essential.
So. What I gather is that a better form of defense is needed. Regular armor is not an option because its heavy and unreliable. Perhaps I can bring it up before the Parliment? I'm sure we can commission something that will be effective and durable but not as bulky. About ammunition... That would probably be easier no?"

Winters nodded, settling down his cup; it was beginning to be finished.
"Possible. I'm no expert in engineering - for what might show up, we'd probably need both A.S.A.P. if the city's going to have any chance to survive."
"But from what you said: yeah, it'd be a good idea to get Parliament looking this over; the sooner we have a better answer to the Void and whatever else might try to come in, the better."
With that, he reached for his cup, but did not raise it to take a sip from it again; his mind was trying to imagine whether or not Parliament would actually pass it, and concluded with something of a snort; who knew?

Caitlyn wrote something in her notepad while she listened to Capt. Winters and looked back at him with a look that was meant to relieve him. "My father is a member of the Parliament. Perhaps he can propose the offer. I will have to conduct some research first which include asking the other members of the expedition about the perils and maybe even more... But it seems like a solid idea. If enough evidence is brought before the Parliament, it might just make through." She smiled, reassuringly.
After that, she wrote a few more things in her notepad. She was excited for the research to come. Protecting Piltover was always in her best interest. She could also bond with her parents more, her father being a member of the Parliament and her mother being a hextech engineer. Perhaps it will also be good to visit Jayce and discuss this further, as well as enjoying friendly company.

Winters nodded, giving something of a hiccup upon hearing the word 'evidence.'
"'Evidence?' All they need to do is ask the Institute or our men what the literal hell they saw that day in the fields and that'd be evidence enough!" He exclaimed, a look of partial disbelief on his face.
"...but yeah. Alert Parliament specifically of what we're up against, and act from there."

((Now... Let's see if I remember how to do this ._.))
"Calm down, Winters." Caitlyn asked calmly. "I understand you've been through a lot but the Parliment needs to be communicated through hierarchical ranking. Simply someone who has the power to bring it to their attention. The Prime Statesman and the rest of the Parliment are reasonable people. One of the things they are ought to do is to ask your men or other sources about that day. From what I gather, hell would be a better place to be at."
She said, finishing her second cup of coffee and then called a waiter for her own bill. She was ready to return to work and to bring the matter before her father.
"Now, Captain. I have work to do, the bad guys aren't going to throw themselves into the prison will they now?" She told him.
