Red roared her challenge at the dragon, daring it to attack- while Caerys quickly retrieved her spear- on closer inspection the shaft broken somehow. Nonetheless she retrieved the upper half, while retrieving her spear. By the goddess, she could still feel its magic- even after more than a year away from it, it felt like she had only dropped it five minutes ago.
She moved to retrieve her flail as well, as every weapon counted.
She saw Red desperate, and move in to attack from below with the long spear. She tries to leap over the tail once again, but the pain and acid on her face permitted the creature's spines to graze her skin. But having the acrobat's belt, she tries to duck below and get a stab in on the creature's underbelly.
This was the opening she would gamble on- with the dragon's focus on Red, she called upon the Zarovian spear's power, she tossed it- and it accelerated on its own force, presenting its narrow profile directly to the dragon's eye, the essential target. She picked up another discarded spear, and moved to inside the creature's reach.
As Red jumped, she would find the drake's maw open and fire a ball of green acidic goop at close range. As she was flying over the tail, she'd be more or less unable to avoid the breath weapon, which meant she would be directly struck and at close range, unless she could somehow avoid it while airborne.
The strike would be terribly powerful. However, being preoccupied with utterly demolishing Red left the drake open to an attack from Caerys. The spear was a direct hit, impaling the drake's eye and causing it to howl and roar in pain. It spun back around, aiming another tail swipe at Red as an afterthought while she would be dealing with the blast from the drake's breath weapon, and then charged, enraged, at Caerys...
The loss of an eye was what she waited for. She now moved towards the creature's blind side, and met the charge with a raised spear, intent on impaling it on the chin, using its own charging momentum against itself. She would have to use her flail as well to hammer the broken spear-tip deeper into its head; there was little other choice.
As for Red, she survived the acid blast, but barely- she rolled onto the sands, burning under the corrosion. She lay helpless as she watch Caerys battle...
The only mistake Caerys made was that he drake would allow the woman out of its sight. It kept its head and body close to the ground, circling to keep the woman in view, and leaving its vulnerable underside concealed. As the beast neared, it shook its head, removing the spear from its eye socket and coiling and uncoiling its neck like a cobra, making lighting-fast bite attacks at the woman in quick succession, its thorny hide acting as armor against her weapon's strikes...
Caerys circled around the dragon now, trying to lure it to attack her- she used the spinning flail to attack and distract, knowing armor was less effective against blunt force trauma, while brandishing the spear. The flail was always trying to go for the ruined eye socket, while the spear was used to threaten its underside.
She was moving slowly towards a wall as she fought, hopefully to catch the dragon in a charge in the corner. She was also getting closer to where Red was lying down.
The drake's thick armored hide soaked the blows from the flail. Stiff metal armor was impacted and bent under the force of a flail, however, "dragonhide" was a thick and durable, and flexible, material. There was a reason it was used to make heavily defensive armors that could endure blows other defensive materials couldn't. The spear had caught a lucky shot where the beast was mostly unarmored, but the flail's power was dispersed through the skin and tissue of the drake, making it all but useless as a weapon.
As such, the drake ignored it, and instead, focused on the spear. As Caerys stabbed at the beast, its jaws snapped out and grabbed hold of the weapon in its teeth, before it viciously jerked to the side, aiming to disarm the woman and leave her defenseless.
Caerys knew that her standard armaments were not going to be enough to take the Drake- once the creature got hold of her spear she let go immediately, dashing over to Red's broken figure and retrieving her sash.
Red groaned, unable to do anything. Caerys was simply smug and thanked her for holding on to it. It was partially burned, but the magic protected it nonetheless. She quickly wrapped it about her waist, and felt the familiar sensation of her body becoming lighter and faster.
"Finally." She muttered. The end of this battle was nearing, and she brandished her combat blade again, wanting the dragon to come near her.
The spear was hurled far from the two women, clattering to the ground some distance away as the drake turned to regard the both of them. As Caerys took time to re-equip herself, the drake let out a roar and fired another ball of green, aiming to strike both women. Caerys would easily be able to avoid the blast, as she was on her feet and now much more nimble. However, Red wouldn't be so lucky...
Caerys might be able to save the other woman, but not without sustaining some level of damage herself, and limiting her newfound mobility in the process. Regardless of the woman's decision, the drake would roar once again, flap its wings, and throw itself into the air to loop around for a pass and prepare its next strike...
Caerys didn't bother with Red anymore. The woman's blade was responsible for making her a gladiatrix in the first place, stole her heirlooms AND was a most unpleasant person to stay with. She didn't even bother looking at her.
The drake flew up, and Caerys climbed the arena wall to meet its next pass. She readied the full length of the long-flail, and with all her augmented dexterity leapt to meet the winged serpent, and tossed it to loop around the dragon's neck. She would then ride the momentum and swing around and upward, cutting its long neck's underside and hopefully land on its head- such a feat enabled by her belt's power.
(( The CBox is moving too fast to snag you. So, I'm just gonna assume you somehow avoided the blast, since you neglected to mention you doing so. You should really pay more attention to important details like that if you want to improve your combat RP. ))
Air-combat 101 stated that in order to do it effectively, you required wings, or some means to change the direction of your body in flight to make it meaningful and effective. Otherwise, a target followed a predicable curve through the air, defined by gravity, wind resistance, and other such factors. The drake had wings and a long tail to use for changing direction mid-flight.
Caerys did not.
As the woman threw herself into the air, using her flail to attempt a daring and very flashy move indeed, the drake did quite possibly the worst thing it could do from Caerys' perspective. It dove directly at Caerys, using one of its as of yet unused abilities, a massive burst of speed... In virtually a split second, the beast's rear talons would aim to grasp hold of the airborne gladiatrix, grip her tightly, and then plummet to the ground, slamming the woman, who was without armor, against the arena floor with every ounce of speed and power the beast could muster, and crush her under it's body weight. The flail would wrap around the beast's neck, but would deal no meaningful damage, as the drake would intercept the woman before her daring attack could be completed.
The drake would probably be wounded to some degree by its own weight if it struck the ground, but Caerys would quite possibly be killed, unless she found a way to escape the grip of the beast, or at the very least lessen the horrible damage she was about to take. All the while, a yellow and a bloodied eye would glare angrily at Caerys in defiance, as if taunting her for her foolishness for entering into the beast's territory...
By now, Red's body was silent and inert, burned beyond recognition, unable to defend herself, Caerys unwilling to save her.
The dragon came in hard and grasped at Caerys; the arena sand and the belt's enchantment did much to cushion the impact of the fall, the arena floor being sand and dirt rather than hard stone. Nonetheless the dirt took on an impression of Caerys's body at the bottom of a small crater.
These factors turned a lethal crash into a decidedly painful one- and Caerys would realize she too was near death as she felt most of her body compacting under the weight. Sand was blown up everywhere, and for moment the battle was hidden by a haze.
Caerys could only escape the dragon's clutches before impact. So long as the pain stayed at bay from adrenaline, with her remaining strength, and a fearsome battlecry, she tumbled out and yanked on the dragon's neck, pulling that angry eye closer and burying her blade into it, before leaping up and over the beast in a seemingly gravity defying maneuver.
All the wounds inflicted by her combat blade were laced with blood thinner, and would keep bleeding- she positions herself onto the dragon's back... she hadn't planned this far, but she'd try her very best to drive the sword into the creature's brain through the optic cluster.
Caerys pulled, the Rift Drake pulled back, whipping its head to the side in an attempt to slam Caerys into the arena wall, or at the very least yank the handle of the flail from her grip. Somehow Caerys seemed completely unaffected after being slammed into the ground from over 100 feet up. She showed no signs of injury. No blood, no broken bones, not even a system shock from the trauma of being crushed by a creature weighing over a ton. Her magical belt must have given her unbelievable durability, healing properties, strength, and many many ranks in tumble and or escape artist for her to come out as well as she had.
However, no matter how much strength she had, the drake had more than enough to lift her body off the ground with the whipping action of its head due to her much lighter weight. If Caerys let go of the flail, the whipping action would be followed by two powerful swipes of its foreclaws, and a thunderously strong swipe from its tail, all while it prepared to fire yet another blast from its mouth. It would be incredibly unlikely the woman could avoid every one of the three attacks, even with her amazing dexterity...
(( I should note that CRUSHING damage is not damage from falling. I still think she should have taken SOMETHING from that. DX ))

(( I've had more experience in combat RPs than I care to admit. XP And I <3 dragons. Either way, thank you. I just hope Caerys isn't mad at me for making it so mean and nasty. ))
((I was pretty sure we started with drake... which evolved into full dragon... and we were pretty unclear with each other's capabilities. Also, Caerys is near death, but remember even in dnd a fighter at 1hp fights as well as 100. And even a champ would have a hard time with this thing- what more an OC. this was supposed to be an exhibition for Caerys to move up in the world... how am I to beat it without any ranged weapons or Plotonium? Bah, I'll post more later and update her injuries. Forgive me as I come from the forums, and I'm still adjusting to a more refined combat rp writing... and perhaps there is divine intervention involved. Maybe.))
