Tybresa chuckled lightly as she pulled off the hood covering her face - her expression was unreadable, but her blue eyes were glimmering with pride.
As humble as always, Ramseyt. I do believe congratulations are in order - and not because you let me keep my status as Senior Steward for a little longer. Rather, I would like to thank you on behalf of the Steward Council for uncovering the seeds of corruption planted among our midst. If we want to bring the Institute back to its glory, we cannot allow to have any kind of spoiled apples among our numbers.
She let out a sad sigh. Indeed, I do believe the time of the harvest is coming, and rapidly so - let us hope that we will have only the good fruit of our labor to show.
She tilts her head slightly. You certainly look much better now, Steward - a good rest can do wonders to one's body. Remember that - you need to balance your time so that you can work diligently while also providing rest for your body, mind and soul.
She looks at his hands, still holding the choker of the disgraced Freljordian.

Ethan passively listened to the woman's beaming praise, still as taciturn as ever while she spoke. It was not until she mentioned the coming months that his expression flickered into life, spurred to a faint scowl at the thought that they would need to fix the myriad issues arrayed before them by others. For as much as he enjoyed his position, the fact that so many seemed to like nothing more than making it nearly impossible for him was not something he particularly envied about his profession.
So be it, I fear the world would crumble were it not for our actions. He thought, a rueful look distorting his face for a moment. His attention refocused on his superior as he was asked to relinquish the choker. He turned his hand over and dropped it into hers, finally tipping his own hood back to give her his ever present stony stare.
"I have already done the dismissal paperwork, Senior Steward. I trust that you will be more diligent in your admissions work from here on out." Ethan explained, the batch of papers quickly finding their way from his case to be held out to her. While there was no inflection to indicate that this chiding was meant in jest, he had intended it as such.
He knew, however, that he was awful at jokes. He also would have to remember to discipline himself later for losing focus while being addressed by his boss. Much to do, yet without the time in which to do it all.

Tybresa nodded as Ethan let the choker slip in her open palm. She stared at it, brushing her finger over the surface of the ice-cold gem. She let out a sigh and spoke out in a soft whisper, her voice tinged with sorrow.
What a shame we all became ... such fragile, broken things...
She wrapped her fingers around it and squeezed tightly - Tybresa's eyes glowed ethereally for a moment as the gem shattered in her palm, the shards cutting through her skin. She looked at Ethan, her expression blank, but one could see through her blue eyes that she was pained by the events.
I fear we will have to postpone Steward admissions - our priority is to see that the Institute is restored before we can think about bolstering our numbers. We will have to make do as we are ...
She let out a sigh and grimaced as small blood trickles oozed from her punctured skin of her palm. In a flash of anger, she threw the black silken choker aside, the shattered icy-blue shards of the gem scattering over the stone floor of the Steward Council Room. The shards began to sizzle as the magic that was stored within dissipated until they disappeared. Tybresa waved her unharmed hand towards the last reminder of the badge of honor - the black sliver of silk ignited in a blue, smokeless flame.
Tybresa shook her head in disappointment - mostly in herself, for reacting so thoughtlessly, but what was done, was done. She raised her hood and without throwing a second glance at either Ethan or the burning remains, she walked towards the double doors leading out of the room. Her voice called out, perhaps harsher than she intended.
Ramseyt, leave the papers on the table and come with me.

As Tybresa's hood was raised, Ethan saw fit to throw his up again as he deposited the papers upon the table as he had been instructed by Tybresa. It seemed she was acting out, something that most certainly did not settle well with Ethan. They had worked closely and while she tended not to be a particularly emotive woman, he hadn't ever seen anything quite like this before. Still, her tone did not offend him, there were Diamond ranked Summoners far more coarse than she whom Ethan had served under.
"Each of us require a rest, from time to time. We are mortal, like it or not, and so we can break if we push ourselves there. To err is human, and we are nothing more than that." Ethan mused, subtle hints of amusement sinking into his tone as he took long strides to catch up to his superior, continuing in a hushed tone when he had fallen in stride with her, "You mustn't blame yourself. Grief is natural. I have seen you work, you were ripe for an extended vacation. The circumstances and timing may have been unfortunate but that does not allow anyone the right to demonize you. Yourself included."
But with that, he had nothing more to say and did not even know if that bore mentioning. The truly interpersonal level of speaking eluded his grasp. Yet were he placed before a crowd, he could wow them effortlessly. Strange the way scope managed to change everything he understood about his only real strength. He realized the thought had made him frown slightly and corrected the oversight immediately, returning to non-expression without any particular expenditure of effort.

Tybresa grimaced underneath her hood and set to pull it further over her head, not wanting Ethan to see the grim frown on her face. She spoke out in a bitter, cold tone.
I had more than enough rest - and look what happened. Mortal or not, the Senior Steward cannot be allowed to err anymore. The burden of the role weighs heavily on my shoulders, but I will carry the guilt of allowing this to happen to my very grave.
She shook her head sorrowfully. No rest for me, not anymore. I shall rest when I'll be dead. But until then - I won't let anything hold me back from restoring this place, as it was the oath I swore... The oath we all swore, Ramseyt - 'Forever serving, never faltering.'
She let out a sigh. Don't indulge yourself to forget that... it's not me, or anyone else that is demonizing me.
She brought her hand to her neck to tap the purple gem of her own choker.
This does, though.
She shook her head, her voice taking on the usual authority of her stature.
But enough of that - there's a reason why I asked you to accompany me, Ethan.
She stopped from her tracks, pacing slowly towards the wall. She placed her hand on the wall and closed her eyes, trying to feel the influx of the Nexus Crystals flow through the walls ...
... two months ago, the ripples sounded like a heartbeat, loud and steady. Now, it was faded and barely audible, at very random and long intervals ... she couldn't help but feel as if the Institute was slowly dying. She let out a long sigh and spoke softly.
I looked through your reports, Ramseyt, and I want to let you know, your efforts are appreciated and will continue to help me catch up with the events happened during my absence ...
She turned to face him, her blue eyes glimmering.
But it's not enough for me to simply read them - I want you to show me. Show me the place of every single thing that has happened here that upset the balance. Every single stone that was changed from its spot...
She bowed her head for a moment before she spoke in a determined tone.
And Heavens have mercy on my soul, I /will/ see the Institute returned back to order.
