The memory span of a goldfish is around 3 seconds.
This is a myth. Many goldfish kept as pets have been proven to remember tricks that they have been shown once before, whether it be a year, or just a few weeks.
The origins of this myth spawns from the time goldfish were starting to be sold publicly as pets. Customers were worried about the ethics of keeping an animal captive while they can't do anything other than swim around aimlessly.
Sellers claimed that goldfish had a 3 second memory span, and they would forget that they are in a tank every 3 seconds. This myth soon became fact, but scientists have proven this wrong.
Many people still have the idea that goldfish have short memory spans, but they are smarter creatures than you think :D
