To the untrained ear, or rather, an ear untainted by a life of combat, the sound of Udyr striking Maria would be something akin to a blade being struck by a blacksmith's hammer; the deafening clank of a fist harder than stone against flesh made of steel. Even as a trickle of blood oozed down her chin, Maria's expression was one of maniacal glee. She had been itching for a fight; an opponent of strength and skill that rivaled her own.
and she had found it.
... Like iron.
The general spat, her blood luminescing an eerie green in the midday sun.
I missed that taste.
With a sound more akin to the roar of a beast than the cry of a warrior, Maria leapt towards her opponent. Feinting a strike to his skull, she dropped from the air; quickly lifting herself on her hand and aiming a donkey kick for the side Udyr's vulnerable knee

Udyr watched Maria launch herself. He did watched the trajectory of her leap, his irises tightened, more feline, more primal in appearance. One could not drop from the sky without a form of magic to make them shift trajectory instantly, so he could see that it was an incoming feint from all of his training in the League.
He responded by slightly crouching his knees instead of an immediate counter attack. Once she landed, he took off. He nearly exploded into a somersault directly upwards into the air, his right leg swinging himself up and around. He had literally jumped nearly in place in order to dodge her strike, and then crash to the earth with his foot aiming to shatter her extended leg. What was strange was the sharp whistle that could be heard, as though the air were being sliced by a ridiculously sharp blade.
The proof that the state is a creation of nature and prior to the individual is that the individual, when isolated, is not self-sufficing; and therefore he is like a part in relation to the whole. But he who is unable to live in society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god.

The sound of a claw whistling through the air was the only warning before Maria's leg split apart, a trio of gashes spewing blood into the sky. She dragged herself away from the beastman, digging her over sized fingers into the earth, and snapping backwards in a manner that would tear an ordinary human apart.
The cyborg kept an eye of Udyr as she rose, the gash on her leg continuing to dribble blood.
Sharp.
Any more tricks up your sleeves?
Figuratively, of course.
Maria's wound began to knit itself shut. Her resistance to physical damage was something the cyborg prided herself on; literally shrugging off arrow and blade.
The Grand General needs me in fifteen minutes. No more, no less. If you've got any fight at all in you, I suggest you show it.
I'm done with the warm-ups.
She adopted her fighting stance again, raising her over-sized fists, the synthetic flesh eerily pale; fading to black as the nanites in her blood surrounded them.

"Tch...A toy." Udyr snorted at the sight of her wound repairing itself. "Pathetic. You need the usage of a crutch to think of even competing with us. You are sloppy. You do not deserve breath, never mind challenge we. We gouged your posterior tibial and peroneal arteries, because you could not dodge. You could not evade the strike."
The beast man rotated his neck, and straightened his back. He took no stance. "You will fight our rage." He took a step forward, flames burst from him body and started to pulse. "The definition of a stance is to provide defense against retaliation."
Another step, and the orangish flames suddenly became a bright blue, the heat palpable as he cricked his fingers. The grass at his feet started to burn and twist, the bark on the trees starting to peel. "We are Udyr. We are nothing more, nothing less than he. When you fight we, you fight he. You do not deserve your strength."
Another step, and his blueish flames started to flicker white, a burst of fire roared out from him and ignited the nearby foliage and ancient trees.
"A toy will never understand anger, rage, the futility and the overcoming of one's own weaknesses without their damnable crutches. You are nothing..." The beast man seemed to fly over the ground, the flames shrieking so loud that it sounded like a chorus of eagles in his wake. "Nothing you accomplish will be by your own hands, it will be by your crutches. Now crumble."
Udyr would close the distance in the blink of an eye, his fire wreathing his entire body as he aimed to cave Maria's skull in. If she managed to dodge, or block, or do anything short of teleportation, a gout of flame would quickly race out and envelop her in addition to his punch.
This was his Phoenix stance without any inhibiting factors, and was allowed to fly as free as its namesake, directly at Maria's face.

Maria adopted a defensive stance as Udyr approached; even before his assault reached her body, searing flames roared across her skin, searing her hardened skin into a molten state.
When the beastman's fists actually connected, Maria was lifted from the ground by the strength of his strike; crashing through several trees before landing in a slump, most of her synthskin burned away, although she had shielded her face and eyes with her arms; several intense burns splayed across her face, one of her eyes charred down to the greenish camera lens that it truly was.
she rose slowly, her eyes coming back into focus with an audible clicking noise.
... Neat trick. Lighting yourself on fire.
She wasn't sure he could hear her and she didn't really care. She was beaten and she new it. But Udyr had made a mistake. A fatal mistake. A terrible, terrible mistake.
Maria staggered to her feet, adopting her fighting stance once more.
Although if it's the best you can do, I regret to inform you I've seen better.
She ran a charred, but slowly regenerating, hand across her mouth, wiping away the stream of blood trickling down her face. Maria had lost; but an opportunity presented itself. One too good to pass up...

Udyr did not pause in his attack. He was already soaring through the air by the time Maria got back on her feet, having been given ample time by her flight and her need to recuperate from the strike.
His right hand was drawn back, his fingers poised and resembling a readied tiger's claws. The fire wreathed about him like the wings of a phoenix, spreading out to singe the trees meters away from him. Before Udyr would land his blow, using his momentum, he replied to her in a brief sentence.
"Of course you have. We are not the strongest yet."
Udyr would land, aiming to tear off Maria's arms with a combination of his Phoenix fire and his Tiger's aspect.
The wind fans the flames to create the raging hell that one calls a fire tornado.

Maria's mind raced as the flames closed in around her; there was no escape from what Udyr was about to do.
Twisting her body to the side, she placed one arm well within Udyr's range, allowing the beast man to tear it clean off; only a ragged and burnt stump remaining.
Gritting her teeth against the pain, the cyborg threw a vicious right cross, directly for the beastman's bearded chin.

Udyr lessened the strength of the blow by flowing with the force of the punch, and threw himself backwards in a flip. Maria's fist would connect, and she would feel Udyr's jaw slide from the impact, successfully dislocating it. However, the beast man did not seem deterred. His feet would rocket upwards and strike at her extended arm with perfect precision while positioning himself a safe distance away, her arm firmly gripped by his beefy hand.

Maria shot forward, ignoring the wet snapping of bone and sinew as her other arm was separated from her.
This was a matter of life and death; the loss of an arm was little more than an afterthought as she attempted to headbutt Udyr in the face, ending up deflected with an abysmally small amount of effort.
She looked up at Udyr, not a hint of fear on her face, unable to stand, but refusing to give in. She grinned maniacally as the flames closed in around her...
Do your worst, beastman. I'm not afraid... Of... You...?
Maria's words trailed off as the fire refused to consume her, instead dissipating -away- from her body.
... I guess he finally decided to show up.
Maria fell silent as an imposing figure slowly emerged from the flames; a pair of white hot eyes shining hotter than any flame the battlefield had seen yet.

Udyr landed, staring at Maria with an apathetic gaze. He violently shook his head, snapping his jaw back in place. After a few practice creaks, he was about to say something when the beast man noticed the flames pulling away from her.
"...Brand," he growled. Udyr's grip tightened, Maria's severed arm snapping in half from the sudden exertion. The beast man would step back and patiently wait for the arrival of the elemental personification.
The fires around his body would start arcing towards the burning, bright eyes, fanning the flames ever more.

the figure stepped forward, an imposing silhouette against the roiling flame. His gait was regal, yet slow; the walk of a being that knows no sense of urgency. Brand didn't even bother to turn towards Udyr as he approached Maria, picking her up in one of his claws and slinging her over his shoulder before beginning to speak in a voice not unlike the roar of an open flame.
You have won your battle, Udyr. I will grant you this one opportunity to retreat with your victory.

The beast man let out a loud snort, his eyes narrowed. He growled at the sight of the mechanical monstrosity that Brand had become. "This is how low you have sank? This is what you do with your freedom? You throw yourself back into slavery. Pathetic."
He took a step towards Brand, his growl becoming a snarl, "Kill her, if you are not a hypocrite. Return her to the dirt that bore her. We have won, and we shall leave, but not until you show your worth."

The elemental snorted derisively in response, a sharp intake of air that caused the walking prison's flames to flare up, turning from yellow to an even brighter blue.
Without ceasing his regal gait to even shoot Udyr a glance of acknowledgement, the elemental strode towards the fallen Maria Blackwind, lifting her broken body from the forest floor as one would handle a misplaced piece of refuse.
If you wish for me to explain myself to you, I'm afraid you're out of your depth.
Not unlike an ant fighting the sun.
Brand brought Maria's battered form close to Udyr, allowing him to inspect it before moving it away.
You are not unlike her. Striving to become something more than you are.
But you will never be able to.
For all of your training, all of your skill, the spirits you house inside of your body, you are still but a man.
and you will always be a man.
The elemental turned to leave, completely ignoring Udyr's challenge. There was no point in crushing a gnat, simply because it was loud and obnoxious.

Udyr let out a snort and started to chuckle, his lips drawing back to show his sharpened canine teeth. "If you were the sun, perhaps we would be an ant, but you are not. You are an abomination, attempting to cling to the dying ember that you call your life by going against your own values."
The beast man spun on his heels and started to walk away from Brand. "Everything has values, simple laws and natures. The nature of fire, as you may not know, is to burn and consume everything. Look at what you are, you are an ember in a stove, forever confined, forever controlled, forever weak. We will transcend our being through life, through death, while you? You will simply die."

These trails only serve to strengthen my resolve.... My rage has been forged into a weapon over the countless millennia of frustration I have spent on this world.
They can lock me away in ancient tombs, enchain me and force me to play their games, and bind me to this mechanical shell, but my wrath cannot be quelled so easily.
Brand raised a claw, gesturing upwards.
To one who's strength could sunder the heavens, earthly threats of suffering and death hold little meaning.
The elemental brought down his claw, returning to a neutral stance; completely open to an attack from any angle. Flames leapt from the ground in front of Udyr, forming an impassable wall of white-hot flames.
As for your transcendence beyond life and death...
Without any movement beyond the tendrils of flame leaping from his body, Brand opposed Udyr; cracks forming in the ground around him, yet more fire bursting forth from the webbing of tortured earth.
I will teach you the foolishness of your quest to overcome your humanity.
