The bright sun projected soft rays of light that seeped through the canopy of shifting leaves overhead. The subtle shadows seemed unusually longer and seemed to somehow move on their own at the corner of her eye. Akali was sure she was merely seeing things; this area of the forest was dense enough, and nobody would have any reason to approach these grounds.
Itsuki and Zen should be here any moment, she thought. The ground seemed flat enough, the trees seemed far apart enough, but she wanted their opinions and assistance before they got to work.
She found herself keeping extra awareness on every turn, peering over her shoulder every chance she got, every sound she heard, every snap of twig that echoed through the trees. With an entire Order behind Zed, she had no reason not to be a little paranoid.
But she never let this leak through her strong, determined face.
As soon as they established a good location, they would then return to the temple to grab more students if need be for assistance in the manual labor it would take to build this the base as soon as humanly possible. Or magically possible.
"Itsuki, Zen, c'mon..." She huffed under her breath impatiently, looking around her, "Hurry up."
She wouldn't take the chance at whistling for them, or any other sign of announcement.
If Akali turned to the source of the noise, she'd find a rather embarrassed Zen standing by a tree. He had managed to travel all the way without a sound or disturbance, but setting how he got close to the destination, he thought he would be in the clear. Of course, he got a little bit careless, as he appeared to step on a twig that hidden itself in the earth. Thankfully, his red tattoos hid his reddened face that was embarrassed from the simple and easy to avoid mistake. "Heh... I'm here." He whispered. He approached her, making sure no one was around. "Are we waiting on Itsuki? How long do you think this will take?"
"I am already here Zen..." a voice ehoed seemingly from nowhere.
Itsuki then soundlessly leaped down from a nearby tree landing next to Akali and Zen. He had been a bit slower getting here than he would've been under normal circumstances, but in times like these there was no such thing as being too cautious. With the Shadow Order having eyes and ears everywhere he made no expense leaving the Sanctuary in secrecy and getting to the location without detection, which he had managed. In his mind the only people that knew he would even be here were Akali, Zen (who were here themselves) and Shen.
"Forgive me if I kept you waiting, I had to be sure no one knew where I was going. With Zed's spies everywhere even in our own Order one can never be too cautious." he said with a bow to Akali and a nod towards Zen.
"I scouted the immediate area on my way here and did not see anything suspicious. So...shall we begin?"
Akali whirled around, and in a blur, the blade of her kama was placed mere millimeters from his throat. She froze entirely, her cold threatening eyes softening in relief as she realized who it was. It glinted in the sunlight, cold sharp steel barely tickling what would have been his flesh had he not been almost fully covered up to the eye with his ninja garb.
"Sorry," Without a change of expression and in quick motion, she re-sheathed her blades. "You can never be too quick to react."
As if nothing had happened, she raised her hand to shield her eyes from the bright orange rising sun. It was still early.
"Let's begin." She shrugged Itsuki's apology, as if it were no big deal. She would have much preferred care over rush. Quickly, her eyes scanned over the area, mentally placing what would go where, planning in her head. She thought for a moment, and pointed to a general area.
"Depending on how big we want it to be, let's start here. Zen," she turned to him, "Scout the area and be sure this place is isolated while we begin, and collect any materials you can find. Itsuki, you can do the woodwork, yes?" She then turned to Itsuki, though she knew the answer. It was not a field of practice she was completely familiar with, however.
Zen bows before looking at her. "It will be done." He said. He turn around and began climbing up a tree. He began leaping from branch to branch, putting more effort into it as the trees were spread apart more. The bird's eye view would be the best for this, so that the shadows below would not see or catch him. Such a beautiful place, teeming with life, nature, and beauty. It was such a shame that these beings of mother nature would be thrown into the conflict for balance without volunteering.
He continued his travel along the trees around the area... Looks like nothing is wrong with it. Though it wouldn't hurt to double check... Or triple check.
"Of course - the woodwork will be of no problem." he replied.
He observed the surrounding area thinking of the best way to go about building for their new secret base. It would have to be subtle but still able to house a fairly large amount of people and supplies at the same time if it were to be a proper base of operations. It was at this point when he noticed what looked like a hole in the ground by some shrubbery, which peaked his interest. Upon further inspection, he found that it was a large underground cave.
"Here - we can have a small structure as a front for our base of operations which we will use this underground cave for." he told Akali from its entrance.
"It will be quick and we will not have to disturb the surrounding forest to build something larger scale, as the cave itself is quite large and only requires some lighting. Afterwards we can being moving everything we need for a proper base into the cave through a secret door I will put in the floorboards for ease of access."
And with that he went to work. He made a few hand signs while muttering something and put his left hand palm down into the dirt. Within the moment four walls of wood sprouted from the ground creating a simple box shape with no roof. Even though not there a moment ago it blended in marvelously well with the surrounding forest and did not attract much attention to itself at all.
"I will have this structure complete by dusk - you have my word on it." he told Akali with a bow as he went back to work.
True to his word Itsuki had finished the small house atop the new underground base by dusk. Itsuki leaned against a nearby tree exhausted and stared at his handiwork. Small as it was he had never used his Mokuton ability to make an entire house before - much less in the short time-span he had given himself. Up until this point he had used it for simpler and smaller things, like shuriken and other wepons for himself while in combat.
"Akali...I've finished the house. All we need now is to bring in whatever we need for the underground base and we'll be finished here." Itsuki told her, exhaustion dripping from his voice.
He sighed content with his work, though not aesthetic, it would serve the purpose needed - something to hide the true underground base now only accessible through the trapdoor in the house.
The house itself was simply built - almost like a little wooden pueblo with the exception that there were no windows and only a front door. After completing the roof he had thatched it to have the top blend in with the surrounding forest from above. Every part of it from the walls to the floor boards he had made using his Mokuton ability that matched the surrounding forest so the house would blend in. Not only was it safe from the elements and prying eyes, but if someone were to try and break in it would be quite difficult to bash down the steel like front door to enter. Even the trapdoor that led to the Kinkou's true underground base was well hidden, so well in fact that only Itsuki knew where it was and how to open it at this point.
The soft red glow of the setting sun seeped through the trees, blanketing the ground with long shadows and a deep warm color. After a long day's work, the base had been completed. Materials were gathered, scouting took place, and manual labor of setting it up properly for utility and secrecy in equal balance.
"Well done, Itsuki." Akali complimented, looking over the base. "Passerby's won't even notice a thing. Let's hope we can expect the same of the Order of Shadows." Her brows furrowed slightly at the mention. She had enjoyed the hard work with her students, yet the reasoning behind it made her spirits sink a little more. Her confidence did not dip, she just did not enjoy it.
Akali glanced around her, searching for any sign of Zen'Tsuu, "Wonder when he'll be back. We need to go inform the rest of the triumvirate. The first part of the mission is complete, just one more task to complete before the real mission begins. Itsuki, keep a look out for Zen. When he returns, inform him of my orders to get a good night's rest now. Our day's hard work is complete. The next step begins as soon as tomorrow, perhaps later. I need to discuss this with Kennen and Shen before we proceed. You will stay informed."
Once she started off in the direction of the temple, she paused, and without looking back, she said, "Oh, and thank you." And headed off.
Zen had formed a perimeter of the area and already started a cycle around, hopping from branch to branch without so much as a creak from the platforms that protruded smoothly from it's origin. He kept doing this for a rather long time, just leaping from branch to branch. Of course he had his blade just in the case of some trespasser coming by and starting to try and make claim of the area. He did wonder when the building would be done, but he didn't really mind that. He had a duty, and if Akali demanded it, it would be done. She WAS his higher-up after all, and how could he just go against her like that?
The sun began to turn the clear blue skies to the opposite with a booming shade of red, slowly casting its shadows amongst the trees. Although it worried him slightly, due to the shadows starting to spread amongst the ground and even the trees, he reassured himself in thought. Don't worry... Itsuki will finish in time, I know it. In fact, it was probably best to check up on how it was going. The forest was practically empty with only animals and the three ninja to walk amongst it.
Zen had returned to see that nothing was built, but I suppose the plan was to not have it be seen. Zen walked up to Istuki quietly as he looked around. "I suppose it's done... Though where's Akali and what's our orders?"
"Indeed, if you wish for me to show you it I will. Akali returned to the new temple to convene with the rest of the triumvirate for the next task. As for our orders she told me we will continue tomorrow after she knows our next course of action, and for now to get a good nights rest." Itsuki stated simply.
"I will reside here for the night. I see no point in going all the way back to the Sanctuary and risk being followed when I can simply stay here where we will meet again tomorrow. I also do not wish to find unwelcome guests when we return here to continue with whatever it is Akali sees fit for us to do."
The base had undergone several finishing touches over the last few months, and now it was barely noticeable by the passing eye. Her students managed to make the house appear more rickety and poorly aged. It would appear abandoned. Even if one were to enter, all they would see were a few pieces of old dusty furniture, and a large rug, which covered the trap door entrance no one would think to check for. The door led to the large underground base of theirs. Several of her dedicated students bunked there, it had become a second home to them. Several others would come and go, venturing far and wide to spy and collect necessary information to come back and update Akali on Zed's plans or whereabouts.
Often, though, Kennen would come visit her to relay any messages. Sometimes, he would visit to kill time, which was nice and made her feel like she was still a part of the Kinkou, a little taste of home. She hadn't seen Shen in god knows how long, but any relevant information of Shen's would not go without passing her ears first.
The sun had begun to set, casting long shadows along the forest.
Akali sincerely hoped Kennen would visit soon. Bonus if he had anything to update her on. She had hoped to wait for the most appropriate time to have Kennen approach the VNN about her departure of the Kinkou. Then, she had hoped, it would speed a few things up a bit, or even provoke. She had no idea to know how Zed would react to it. It partially intrigued her. She felt like she would be prepared, but there would be no way to know until the time arose.

June 2nd, 23CLE
Like a cold draft, Daichi crept into the woods silently. He donned not the attire of a summoner but something more familiar. A brown cloak, a black halfmask and the appropriate Kinkou attire. It was not his Father's outfit but it was good enough for him. It marked him as friendly though any wise warrior of the group would know better than to judge by appearance alone.
His tabi made no sound with each step as he entered the run down building. It was a clever disguise, it had taken Daichi months to pick up on any of the activity. It was only due to past affiliations that he could have even hoped to have found it. With careful steps he moved to the trap door and uncovered it. Kneeling down, he braced himself for whoever may answer or show. He knocked twice upon the door, hard, and revealed himself to the New Order.
Itsuki had seen Daichi making his way throught the forest by chance while keeping a lookout for the new base he had all but built himself for the Kinkou. He recognized the attire the man wore as Kinkou in origin, but that meant nothing, he had never met this man in his life and had no reason to trust him in the slightest. Not only that, but several members of the Kinkou had defected to Zed's order and this could easily be one of them in disguise for all he knew. He would take no chances.
"Why are you here..." a voice said coldly from behind.
"Choose your words carefully...depending what they may be they could be your last." Itsuki said threateningly. He stood a few feet behind Daichi holding a katana that was made from his Mokuton ability towards him, ready to impale the man he saw as an intruder.

Daichi froze in place. "My name is Daichi Hamamoto. I have come to see Akali regarding matters of The Order of Shadows recent movements. My intent is friendly. I recognize your voice, but I cannot but a name to it. Do I know you?" He was cool, calm, collected. He didn't turn to face his current antagonist. If Itsuke had allowed him to get this close and if he truly believed he meant ill then it was more than likely that whoever sent him already knew of their whereabouts. He'd gone directly to the base, almost directly.
