"Ah- no problem, none's gotten on me." Sonder chuckles as she looks over her shirt, to confirm the truth of her statement. "You alright?" She picks up some cloth napkins from the table, and holds out them out to him for his clothes.
It's hard to hide her slight amusement at his intimidation. Her smile, which she means to be kind, reveals just a trace of it before she hides the curve of her lips behind a glass. He's... awfully nervous. I guess I should try to be nice.
Without waiting for an answer, she holds out her other hand to shake. "Rose Sonder, though I go by my surname to most."

Jay stared for a moment before he snapped out of his shock, shaking his head. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just gonna..." He took the cloth and dabbed, but whatever it was, it didn't come out so easy. "Dammit. Not gonna work." Sighing deeply, he turned back to Rose. He barely caught her slightly laughing smile, but decided to ignore it. "Er, yes. Hi. Jay. I mean, uh, I'm Jay. Jay McIna. Glad to meet you." He almost grabbed her hand to shake, but then pulled back only a couple of inches.
He could feel the heat coming off of her body from even that far, and chances are that the heat wasn't natural. "Uh, sorry. Don't mean to be rude. It's just, you're hot, and that could mean you're...I mean, your hand feels hot, and...magic?" He decided it was best to just be blunt and get it out of his system before he started to confuse her with his stammering.

Sonder's smile widens at his stammering introduction; neither shyness nor politeness were things she was used to from men. "Maybe soap would help- but I've no idea where to find that in this place, I'm afraid. At any rate, it's good to meet you as well, Jay~" Some surprise shows in her eyes when he pulls his hand back, but she shrugs slightly, and takes a sip of her drink as he speaks.
"Ah- yes, I'm relatively proficient with fire magic, and it sort-of runs in the family. Why the reaction?" Her question isn't hostile, just curious- it was unusual, after all. "If you don't mind my asking, that is." While his shyness is rather endearing, she half-hopes that her calmness will exert its influence on him over the course of the conversation.

Jay shuffled. "It's...a thing." His expression changed slightly, almost as if his brain shifted gears. "Simply put, my body exerts a magical void on the surrounding environment, causing physical contact to temporarily drain mana and magical ability over a period of time. In some cases, this...er..." He had shifted back to his older self once more, his scientific confidence gone. "Well, uh...bad things. Especially on naturally occurring magic. It's a...safety thing." He shook his head; it apparently would've been a good idea to bring the gauntlet tonight.

Rose nods, seeming to understand fairly well. "That sounds fascinating~" While she notices his confidence vanish, it seems, outwardly, to be caginess. "So- if you were to touch my hand, then I could lose my casting temporarily- and potentially permanently, were the contact extended?"
She shifts her weight from one side to the other, her eyes on his face, showing her interest clearly.

Jay shook his head. "Uh...no...never touched someone long enough for it to be perma--permen...neverending." He barely managed to stammer the word out, and made sure to catch his breath before continuing. "Does happen to batteries, though. Can always charge those again, though, so..."
With a quick pause, he changed the topic. "It's really not a big deal, I fixed it with couple of...runes? Yea, runes. Left them home, so...not much good, eh?" He chuckled to himself. "That's 'nuff about me, though. What do you do?" Shifting the conversation onto her would give him enough time to gather his wits about him; it'd be a lot quicker if he got a chance to not talk for a minute.

This sort of scene had never really been his cup of tea, but due to the fact that most of his family was busy working Damian found himself attending a party for the Hand of Noxus' birthday thrown by none other than the Glorious Executioner. The festivities had been initiated with a rousing speech, which he had listened to with only mild interest, and then the guests set about mingling amongst themselves.
He felt like a prisoner, honestly. His father had practically forced him to come to this siesta, which he otherwise would have simply ignored in favor of his own personal quest. For many years now Damian had been hard at work seeking out and obtaining the works of his ancestors, those special items of varying natures left behind by relatives he only knew about through the Faust family's archives. Throughout his entire life he had never had to worry about expectations from the rest of his family, as being the youngest of his brothers meant Damian wasn't really expected to carry on the family business. Really, why should he? He had two brothers before him who were able to. It didn't help that he was the only one to represent the Faust lineage, either, nor was his total disconnection from the rest of those attending the bash any more valuable.
He didn't know either of the brothers, Draven and Darius, personally either. They were famous from their activity in the League of Legends, having represented Noxus as they fought for her glory. The events that have transpired in recent times, however, changed all of that, and so Noxus was pursuing her own means of attaining prosperity without the need for the League's protection (or restrictions, for that matter). Still, however, his father was fully expecting him to keep the good name of the Fausts going by being on his best behavior, so he would just have to endure it for the time being. So he kept on a false smile filled with charm and charisma, hiding his true feelings of disgust and reproach.
Jay shook his head. "Uh...no...never touched someone long enough for it to be perma--permen...neverending." He barely managed to stammer the word out, and made sure to catch his breath before continuing. "Does happen to batteries, though. Can always charge those again, though, so..."

"That's 'nuff about me, though. What do you do?" Shifting the conversation onto her would give him enough time to gather his wits about him; it'd be a lot quicker if he got a chance to not talk for a minute.
Some curiosity still remains in her expression, but his discomfort is clear enough that she searches her mind for a polite answer. Unemployed, a student, self-teaching mage...? Embarrassed, she clears her throat quietly.
"I'm, ah, working on teaching myself more, magic-wise; I only have two spells at the moment, and I could more easily seek work if I had more refined skill." Sonder offers a rather sheepish smile, seeming almost shy for the first time in their interaction.

Damian stared at the liquid that moved as he swiveled the glass in his left hand, his right hand gripping the crystalline skull head of his cane. He took a very bored sip of the drink, then, as he shifted his gaze across to the other guests around him. He definitely didn't know anyone here, and he couldn't help but feel like a fish out of water. There was nothing he could do, though, as he had been ordered to represent his family while the rest of them were focusing on their work. It was completely unfair for his father to have him attend such festivities when he had other matters to attend to, and if he could he would have said no.
So he was here to mingle for the sake of his family, and he supposed he should start going around trying to do so. Wading through the crowd of people who were all here to celebrate the date, he made his way to where he happened to tune in to a conversation being held by the oddest pair - an awkward looking man and a rather delicate looking woman. The latter had just finished saying something about seeking work. He was within arm's reach of them, so it stood to reason that they could very well notice him. Instead of allowing himself to be perceived as some random eavesdropper, he decided to introduce himself to them. "Ah, that Draven sure knows how to host a casaba doesn't he? My name is Damian Faust, and before you ask it IS indeed the same Faust family known for enhancing weapons and such. But enough about me, how are you two faring this fine evening?" He tried his best to seem upbeat and social, the complete opposite of what he wanted to do at this moment.

Jay was about to continue conversing with Rose when Damian interjected, completely out of the blue. He sighed; he'd definitely heard of the Faust family, but that didn't make him very keen on them. If anything, they often infringed on his work for Maria, and rumor was that they wouldn't hesitate to steal another group's idea and market it as their own.
He gave a shrug and didn't make eye contact with the man. "Oh, y'know. Not bad. Still trying to figure out whatever the hell it is that I spilled on myself." He looked down at the stain on his cloak, sighing again with dismay. "Anyhow...Rose, you practice magic a bit?"
He twiddled his thumbs a bit. "Well, I know I mentioned earlier my..." he took a long pause here, giving Damian a furtive glance before continuing, then saying "...small problem with magic of sorts, but..." He really wasn't certain he wanted to continue at first, but then thought better of it. He looked up at Rose, making eye contact for once. "Well, I'm not half bad at magic, actually. Used to be a...summoner..."
He mumbled out this last word, breaking eye contact again. "But I could teach you something maybe. It could be better than self-progression...but hey, who am I to say that? You're probably great at teaching yourself." He smiled meekly at her, this time making and holding eye contact.

Rose nods to Damian. "Well enough," she answers politely- while she's heard of the Faust family, it doesn't pique any particular curiosity or interest. A small cough implies that she perhaps might like to see him move on, but it'd be rude to state as much directly. Interrupting...
Her smile reappears as she turns to Jay, and she nods. "I can't get much done on my own, but I practice at home when I've got the time." Seeing the look he gives Damian, she wonders if she's been told a secret, and makes a mental note to keep it quiet.
"Well, I'm not half bad at magic, actually. Used to be a... summoner..."
Sonder's eyebrows rise slightly- this is the second time she's met a summoner working for Noxus in perhaps as many days. It doesn't bother her, but she knows why it might be something one wants to keep quiet; the mistakes of the Institute's leaders are often laid on the shoulders of those who work at a lower level within it.
His offer to teach is met with a wider smile than before. "No-one's been properly teaching me since I was a kid. That'd be nice, if you're willing? I mean- I do alright on my own, but it's irritatingly slow going." Those green eyes seem to spark with undiluted interest.

Jay nodded, cautiously at first, but then speeding up. He hadn't expected her to accept his invitation. "O-oh! Yes! Of course. I have a lot of free time, surprisingly enough." He grinned and squinted his eyes, rubbing the back of his head. There was something simultaneously spellbinding and offsetting about Rose's eyes, but maybe it was just him. "Should I come over to your place--for lessons, I mean--or would it be fine if you came to my apartment?" His right hand clenched as if it was feeling for the security of his gauntlet, but instead it just found a tuft of his cloak.
As soon as Rose wrapped up that part of the conversation, he'd stay quiet for a moment. "Well...that certainly escalated quickly." He then simply grabbed a cookie from the table and began eating it; the old adage once more proved true, and yes, the caterers had NOT found a way to mess up a chocolate chip cookie.

Draven walks over to the Drink table and picks up another bottle. "Who will have a drink with me?" he says walking around with glasses and pouring drinks to everyone. "Mundo my giant friend here you are." he says as he hands the Doctor a big metal glass and fills it up. He makes his way through the crowd handing dishing out the rest of the glasses and the drink. "Ah you three look like you need it." he says as he walks up to Rose, Jay and Damian. "Here you are." he says handing out the last glasses and the drink "Faust is it?" he says pointing at Damian. "I hear your family are the people to talk to about fixing up weapons and such, I need a Gift for my brother for this occasion do you think you can handle it?" Draven says Taking a drink from the bottle. Draven looks over to Jay "I dont think we've been introduced just yet The name is Draven." he says holding out his hand.

Damian knew he had interrupted, and after the less than warm greetings he'd received from Jay and Rose his feelings of doubt regarding his mere presence at this party were reaffirmed. His smile weakened just a tad as he tried to swallow the lump in his throat that now threatened to suffocate him, any hopes of fitting in at the celebration dashed by his own ill-formed preconceptions of the difference between himself and everyone else. Although he didn't immediately set out to relocate somewhere away from the pair he'd happened upon, he couldn't help but linger for only slightly longer.
Long enough that the host of this gala happened to pass close to hand them each a drink, which when offered to Damian he would down the last of his original to take the new glass with all the grace and poise expected of him by his father. "Thank you, Sir Draven." he voiced his gratitude, faux as it was, to the Glorious Executioner, and then was rather beside himself at the subsequent praise he received. His smile, previously strained, became wry at the bold statement that Draven had made. "I apologize profusely, but I am not currently established in my family's work. Although I've no doubt that your request can still be fulfilled by my kin." he told the former Champion, before falling silent and gradually feeling more foolish every second he remained in the presence of such an esteemed Noxian.

She pauses to consider the offer. ...my apartment isn't really good for visitors, at the moment. Her last attempt at a proper spell had resulted in a minor explosion, leaving candle wax and scorch marks everywhere within its radius. The nervous gesture doesn't go unnoticed, though, and it provokes a certain curiosity- so she makes her decision, picking up a new drink from a servant boy's tray.
"I suppose we could go to your apartment," Rose answers, with a sip of water and a smile. "Where is it, precisely? I live near the downtown, so it'd be good if it were close- and otherwise, I'm sure I could kip over on the couch." A teasing expression appears in her eyes as she adds the last piece, though her intention is primarily to learn.
