The counting of votes for the Parliamentary Elections was completed. Among the elected, Marcellus Hollaway, a well known mining and manufacturing magnate in his district. Some know him as a successful businessman, others a philanthropist, both are true. He has donated large sums of money to charities across Valoran using the income he receives from his mining, refining, and equipment manufacturing business. He has always done what he can to improve life the area of Piltover he lives in, and to some, it seems as though it's about time he run for Parliament, and not surprising he was one of those elected from the Progressive Party.
After being introduced, Marcellus walked onto the stage and stood behind the podium to address the crowd that had gathered. He wore his usual black suit, nothing that really caught the eye, but still high quality. He looked out at the crowd for a second, then began his speech.
"I am not one for speeches, since I believe my actions in Parliament will speak louder than any words that can be spoken. As such, I will keep this brief.
Piltover has always prided herself on perfection and progress, but there are still blind spots from which we avert our eyes. Poverty and homelessness are still abundant in certain districts of our shining city, especially in her outskirts. We will no longer turn a blind eye to these haunting stories of the downtrodden. This is one reason why you have chosen me—and as a member of Parliament, I will extend our city's charity to the deepest reaches in conjunction with Piltover Law Enforcement. I will continue to improve the lives of all Piltovians in general through charity programs and state vigilance both. Sheriff Caitlyn, I look forward to a productive partnership.
However, I feel it more necessary to address in depth the issue of grand-scale state security. The most dire issue on my agenda is that of Piltover's current relationship to the League of Legends.
The Institute of War was meant to keep Valoran intact, but what has it done as of late? It has allowed monsters to escape from its halls and attack the people of Valoran! It did nothing to protect Freljord from the Void or Demacia from the Shadow Isles! No! Only after destruction had been wrought did the Institute lift a finger in the defenses of these nations. It has done worse than nothing! The treaty of citystates restricts military progress and construction of arms in the very places where they are most needed: arms and military might that we may need—that we will need—in light of the League's complacency, as threats from the Void, the Shadow Isles, and even the creatures that have escaped from the Institute itself threaten our lives! This is why I believe Piltover must consider withdrawing from the League of Legends. We must fortify our military! We must be able to stand on our own two feet. We must be able to stand firmly against Valoran's impending threats. This is the only way to ensure that our city, our homes, our families will remain safe!
When we depart from the League and begin to strengthen our military, we will not only strive to be prepared for an attack, but we will also prosper economically. The new jobs in manufacturing can help employ those who have none, and allow the homeless to be able to afford homes.
We of the Progressive Party swear to not only improve Piltover, but keep it safe from harm."
With that final statement, Marcellus gave a slight bow of the head and stepped off the stage as the crowd gave its applause. That had gone well. Now it was time to let his actions speak.
