Name: Markal Cassalantar
Alias: Honored Professor of the Dead
Class: Necromancer
Race: Human
Age: 218
Occupation: Professor at Witherwood Academy
Residence: Noxus High Square
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Ability
Despite his humbleness, Markal is quite the force to be reckoned with, the countless years spent practicing the dark arts of Necromancy making him a powerful caster.
Death Bolt: Markal conjures a ball of necrotic, shadowy energy and fires it at his target from a medium range. Low cast and cost makes this his signature spell.
Bone Barrier: Sharp, ghostly ribs begin to curl around Markal from nowhere, striking away any foe that comes near him. They deal wounds to the body and mind that cause lasting pain, depending on his enemy’s Fortitude/Will save.
Weakling Brand: Markal points his staff at a target, sending a thin, verdant beam of necrotic force lancing into his foe’s organism, branding it as a weakling. Target’s attributes are decreased depending on the level difference between the caster and opponent.
Silence of the Dead: Markal sends forth a spectral hand towards his foe, coiling around its throat, damaging and silencing the target. Has to be channeled, effectiveness depends on target’s Fortitude.
Shadow Shield: Markal envelopes himself with a shield of shadows, deflecting projectiles, absorbing minor magic damage and making it harder for opponents to land melee attacks on him.
Shadow Shift: Markal works with the power of shadow to damage a nearby target while shifting his position a set distance in the direction he is facing.
Life Tap: Markal extends his hand and a fell beam of green light erupts from an enemy and into his hand, like a worm slowly draining the target of their life essence and funneling it to the caster. Channeled spell.
Lord of the Undead: Markal is able to summon undead minions to do his bidding, the type of creature depending on the available raw materials.
*Skeleton: Fragile but quick, the skeleton is the basic unit Markal can summon. They are highly resistant to magic and should more than one be summoned, they are able to reform after being shattered.
*Corpse: Slow and clumsy, the corpses do not feel pain or fear. They are able to withstand a great deal of damage and have a chance to spew noxious fumes when destroyed.
*Ghoul: Mindless minions with a hunger of flesh, ghouls will stop at nothing to sate their taste – they move faster than a skeleton and attack with almost demonic frenzy. They do not obey the will of the necromancer, however, and must be quickly dealt with else they will turn on their summoner.
Haunt: A high-tier channeled spell, Markal summons the the souls of the dead, haunting an area around him. These souls reach from the ground and grab the ankles of any encroaching opponents, periodically damaging them and slowing them down. Has a chance to knock back target, depending on target’s Fortitude.
Banshee Howl: Markal summons the ghost of his wife, Estelle, through the skull at the top of his staff, howling loudly like death itself. All surrounding enemies have their morale reduced and has a chance to either silence, deafen or fear the affected targets, depending on their Fortitude/Will Save.
Whack: The staff isn’t just for walking – Markal has undergone martial training and can quickly strike at his enemy with his staff, having a chance to incapacitate his target with a well-placed blow and depending on his enemy’s Fortitude.
Necromancer's Sight: Markal is able to see through a being and gauge the effectiveness of its inner organs, thanks to his medical studies. His eyes turn to an intense venom-green tint when this ability is activated.
(Passive) Embalmer: Extensive experimentation and study of the human anatomy has given Markal knowledge of the inner workings of the body and its weak points. Increases the chance for his Whack to critically hit or incapacitate his target.
(Passive) Walk Through Darkness:Markal is able to move quickly and quietly in the shadows or otherwise dimly-illuminated areas.
(Heritage) Dark Lineage: House Cassalantar is known to have strong affinity to necromancy – Markal’s necromantic spells are more powerful overall.
Relationships
Estelle Cassalantar nee Corouge: Daughter of the merchant family Corouge, Estelle's father was found unable to pay back an exorbitant debt to the Witherwood Academy after his business failed. In order to clear her father's name, Estelle was forced to marry the influential Markal Cassalantar, who agreed to wipe the dept as part of the bargain. At the beginning of their marriage, she treated him coldly while fulfilling her duties towards him as his wife, bearing him a daughter, taking care of the household and maintaining a respectable status among Noxus' society, spreading House Cassalantar's influence with help of her Black Rose ties. As time passed, they became more familiar with each other and Estelle embraced her husband’s heritage, turning her back on those that had tried to use her as a mean to attain their lost dignity. Markal seemed unaffected by Estelle's sudden passing under mysterious circumstances.
Estelle is still bound to the living world as a banshee, her essence inscribed in the interior of the skull that Markal placed at the top of his staff.
Marcelaine Cassalantar: Marcelaines lack of magical proficiency led Markal to be indifferent of his daughter, letting Estelle to fuss over her. Despite his initial disappointment, he encouraged her to continue her training with swords, hoping that she will make a better future for herself rather than the usual fate of noxian women. It came as no surprise to him when she ran away from home in order to avoid an arranged marriage her mother had intended for her. He knew of her identity as the Nightingale, but chose not to reveal it. After hearing the news of the Dragonfire Massacre, Markal paid the costs of the funeral service for all the families that lost someone close in that tragic battle.
Tybresa Farrister-Cassalantar: Markal initially disregarded her as being related to him, believing that his daughter had died in the Dragonfire Massacre – however, he was convinced after comparing Tybresa with a painting of Marcelaine, the similarity far too real to deny it. He promptly named her his heir, trying to convince her to become a citizen of Noxus and live as a proud member of House Cassalantar. Tybresa kept refusing his offer, choosing to continue her duty as a Steward of the League of Legends. Despite the refusals, Markal doesn't give up easily, trying to find whatever methods to convert her to Noxus - and House Cassalantar.

A man
His robes are as black as darkness, save for the velvet-red material embroided over his shoulders which serves as a senior distinction among the other necromancers, and gave an outline to his shoulder frame. There are various golden trinkets and jewelries hanging at his neck and pinned to his robes which jingled softly with each movement.
Biography
Third and last son of Lord Nicolai Cassalantar, Markal was generally overlooked as a youth, not taking any pleasure in being in the center of the spotlight like his elder brothers.
Instead, he chose to devote himself to the arts of Necromancy, embracing the potential flowing through his veins. He graduated at the Witherwood Academy of Noxus, promptly accepting the job as a professor of the Dark Arts, thus becoming more or less isolated from the political, military, social and family matters.
That all changed, however, when his father and elder brothers have been killed in battle, finding himself involuntarily involved in the world he tried so hard to avoid. Despite the initial wave of dissent, Markal proved to be far more resourceful and capable than anyone would have known him to be, securing the good graces of Grand General Boram Darkwill through means known by few. From there on, Markal abused the privilege, further establishing ties with other influential people within the High Command and Noxus.
Markal initially pursued a spot in the Noxian High Command, only to suddenly withdraw and continue his line of work at Witherwood Academy instead, earning the title of 'Honored Professor of the Dead'.
Markal eventually married Estelle Corouge according to the deal he struck with her father to wipe off his debt to Witherwood Academy and sired a daughter, Marcelaine.
Despite the death of Grand General Darkwill and the following ascension of Master Tactician Swain, Markal's position did not seem to falter among Noxus' High Command.
Presently, Markal is trying to research the unknown, yet necromantic-related magics of the Shadow Isles, more specifically that of the Deathsinger Karthus. However, with Noxus' secession from the League of Legends, not only was he cut off from the only trickle of information he required for his studies, but also lost contact with his grand daughter, which finally forced him to take action outside of his zone of comfort within the Witherwood Academy.
