Candidate: Jayce
July 6th, 22 CLE
OBSERVATION
Jayce appears to be a man overcompensating for what he has lost, but the way he does so is not in vain. His hammer is his magnum opus, and it has the sophisticated sense of achievement, yet the distinct air of metal and expertise.
He sighs to himself softly, before entering the marble doors to the chamber. His feelings still lost, but his instincts not, he is prepared for whatever trials await him behind the doors.
REFLECTION
The scene changed immediately to that of Piltover Parliament. He looked around for a moment, what the heck was he doing in Piltover when he was just in the Institute a moment ago?
He looked down, and realized that he was standing on a podium, and above stood the slim figure of the Sheriff, and another cloaked man beside her. His mouth was agape in confusion, he didn't remember this happening before...
The cloaked man clicks his heels together, before standing up to speak.
"Jayce, you have committed the crime of vigilance, uncalled for violence, and of property destruction to that of a prestiged Zaunite scientist..." His voice is rather familiar, but a faint tone of anger present. "... as well for losing such important scientific progress... What do you have to say for yourself, young man?"
"I have nothing to say, but to accept my punishment, sir."
"Is that so...?" The cloaked figure paused for a moment. Silence filled the halls, and Jayce coughed. As if in response, the man pushes the Sheriff down onto the ground, revealing it to be just a cardboard cutout. His eyes glazed over the cutout for a moment, before looking up to the man once again, his hands still to the side obediently.
The cloaked man crouches down, his head just disappearing below the opaque barrier. A few chunks of wood fall off as the man leaps into the air, landing right in front of Jayce, destroying the podium. His cloak flew off... and just when Jayce managed to recover, he mouthed a word in awe.
"Dad..."
"Silence, boy." A heavy hand smacked Jayce right across the face. Falling to the ground, his hammer flying straight into the wall behind him.
He could only ever recall his father from memories when he was just a small child. Right before him, the rugged man stares straight through, still walking straight. His foot rose, kicking Jayce down and pinning him to the ground. Chains lashed up from the ground and wrapped around his limbs, and a few over his neck to prevent him from looking anywhere else but his father.
"You disgust me. I never raised you like this."
"You never raised me at all, bast-" A sudden kick to the face shut him up immediately, and the man panted, his leg quivering on Jayce's chest.
"The Zaunite... Viktor was it? Why did you not accept his offer? Why did you not revolutionize the field of science with him?"
Jayce blinked. The father he had not seen for years was asking him about an event that happened just a few days ago. How did he know? Why did he want to know?
"It was... for the future. I cannot let... such a blea...k future exist..."
"Future? You actually care about the future?" The man let out a hearty laugh, before setting his foot up, the chains went down into the ground, and Jayce sat up, his body tense. "I see. So my little boy has finally grown up."
Still being called a little boy irritated Jayce, considering that he was already 27. Then again it had already been 20 years since he last saw his father figure. He gave his father a quick hug, burying his face in the chest.
"I...'ve missed you." He quickly withdrew, walking back a few steps before standing at a distance. "Enough with the cheesy reunion. Tell me, why are you here? Why are you back?"
"Why else, son? To check up on you of course!"
No, that didn't sound right. His father wouldn't give a single damn about him even if it meant the end of the world.
"... Who are you and what do you want? Give me the real thing." He quickly ran back to retrieve his hammer from the wall, clutching it and pointing at the man.
"I'm your father, and I want to know more about you. Got any girls? Scientific breakthroughs? I like your hammer there."
"Stop with the act, and give me the real you. I know my father, and he doesn't care about such trivial things."
"Whatever." He paused, before inching closer. "How does it feel to open your mind?
"... Deceitful. Can't believe you used my father as a medium."
The man nods as if in agreement, before asking again."And why do you want to join the league, Jayce?"
"I... I want to fight. To fight for a brighter tomorrow."
"That's the spirit, boy. Welcome to the league." He gave a pat on the back to Jayce, before walking off to the doors behind him.
And with that, Jayce disappeared, back outside of the Institute.
