((Note: This is based years in the past, on the first time Poppy and Galio meet in Demacia after she delivers the helm and he is inspired by her. ))
One fateful day
The Golden City of Demacia. Poppy had come to the city to deliver a helm with her father, but instead had lost her father for it. And now... she had been requested to be the Ambassador between Bandle City and Demacia. She didn't know what to think. She was a smith's daughter, not a politician. One thing she did know however... she would do whatever it took to make Noxus pay for what those assassins did to her.
But her thoughts are interrupted by the chatter of the townsfolk around. Many of the people had talked about her for the last hour or two, but this was something... different. Something was spotted heading towards the city. Something... large. Not human, not yordle, not beast. Yet... alive.
They said it seemed to be made of stone. What was going on? What could it be? This soon after her arrival?
She heads to the gates of the city, wearing her ragged clothes and carrying the large hammer of her father in her hand. What she saw, she did not expect. The shape of the creature coming was... familiar. She had seen it before. The large runic wings, the stone body beneath the runic skin, the face of a gargoyle. It was... the statue she had stood beneath earlier the same day. The same one whose shadow she had rested beneath. It was... alive? How?
She walks to the large creature and raises her head, looking at it with her determined, serious gaze.
I... I remember you. Back in the wilderness. Who... no, what, are you? Did you follow me here?

It had been years since he had moved. He had not counted how many had passed since Duran's death and his failure and he would have remained thus by his creator's side until kingdom come, had it not been for a young Yordle carrying a precious burden. Something had moved within him, and he had come to a realization: Demacia and the ideals Duran long protected with his inventions still remained. While he had failed to protect the man, he would not fail to protect his creator's home. His new home.
At least, that was the plan.
It had taken a few hours after the Yordle had left, before he stood. Looking in the direction she took, the way to Demacia, Galio spread his wings once more and took flight. As he approached the walls of the shining city, his sharp eyes picked out movement on the walls as guards ran about spreading the news of his approach. Galio was unsure of how he would be received since he no longer traveled with Druan.
Instead of flying directly into the city, Galio alighted in front of the gates and waited. Upsetting the guards would do no good, and he had not been a moment on the ground when a crowd of curious individuals--ranging from guards to civilians--surrounded him. He sat silently appraising the situation. Clearly, none of them meant him any harm. They all seemed surprised to see him. A few of the older ones, no doubt remembering Duran and his work, began to spread the rumor that one of Duran's surviving constructs had returned to Demacia.
Then, unexpectedly, the Yordle who had inspired him appeared through the crowd, with a very large hammer her hand. He puzzled over how one so small could wield a weapon so large for a moment as she spoke and met her eyes with his own.
Solemnly, having not spoken a single word in years, he replied, "Yes, you did indeed stand in my shade without knowing. I am Galio. A construct of the genius named Duran." He looked back over the crowd to the city, and continued, "Though you did not know it, your perseverance and resolution inspired me to come here. To protect the only home I know."
He fell silent, seemingly lost in contemplation of the glorious city.

Duran...
Poppy looks down in thought for a moment before looking up at the Guardian again, seeming determined yet sad.
Why were you in the wilderness like that though? Is he... not around anymore?
She sighs and leans Whomper against the ground. Her perseverance and resolution had inspired this giant? She had been determined in finishing the delivery, to honor her father's last words.
There was a reason for why I was as... determined as I was in the wilds... Galio. I am Poppy, daughter of Blomgrun, a master smith.
My father and I were delivering a helm he was commissioned to a general here in Demacia. But... apparently someone had leaked the knowledge...
We were met by Noxian assassins... my father held them off while I managed to get to hiding... he told me to finish the delivery... but I... I saw them butcher him...
A tear falls from the eye of the mourning yordle, followed by a sigh.
So... I followed his last wish, from where I stood under your shade, to Demacia.

When Galio spoke, the rest of the crowd backed away. Some in shock and some in awe. A few of the guards who had come out to meet him exchanged a glance, and a couple of them broke off to report the happenings at the gate to their superiors. As the small clearing was created, Poppy stood out and remained facing the giant gargoyle.
If stone could weep, Galio would. As it were, his face declined to gaze directly upon the sad, forlorn looking Yordle. The strength she found to continue on impressed the sentinel. Especially since they shared a similar sad past event.
In response to Poppy's question, he replied in a low even voice, "Duran is no more. He died and I failed. My failure left me standing stricken above my creator's body. I sat there for years, until you came along."
He laughed slightly, bitterly. "We have much more in common than I knew. We both lost someone, and yet we responded in a different way. Perhaps we did not take the same paths because of our goals. Mine was to protect Duran at all costs, but yours was to deliver the helm. It matter little now, however, since we both have found the same path in the end."

Poppy's face is as immovable as the stone that the gargoyle she was facing as she listens to his story. Indeed... they had similarities in their past. She did not seem to even notice the crowd around them anymore, this... giant was the only one present who truly knew what she had gone through. What it felt to lose one's father to assassins.
I see...
My path... is leading me towards a certain place. I will make sure that the world knows what Noxus has done... and Whomper here will help me in that. It's... my father's old hammer.
The hammer starts glowing as she continues leaning against it, as if recognizing it's name or reacting to it.
And it seems I will be staying here in Demacia from now on. The humans have requested that I'll be appointed as the Ambassador of my home of Bandle City, an envoy between the people of the two citystates... perhaps we can talk again later on?

Once Poppy had finished speaking, Galio nodded his head to signal his understanding. In a slightly amused voice, he commented, "Whomper is the hammer's name? For one of your stature, it is quite the weapon."
In a more serious tone, he continued in a sage tone, "But silliness aside, it is good to have something to remember your father by. Using this weapon against your enemies will no doubt alleviate some of the pain, while still reminding you of why you fight. It is the same with myself in a way. Duran created me. He is--or was--the reason I exist now. Even though I failed him, I will always fight for what he worked for. In this way too we are similar. We will both work to bring Noxus to account for its misdeeds."
"And it seems we will be seeing more of each other. I am here to serve Demacia, and you will serve as ambassador. I am sure we will talk later," he finished, and looking up noticed the crowd around them had thinned, many having lost interest with the conversation.
Walking towards the sentinel, a group of guards pushed through the remaining onlookers and looked at Galio intently. It was clear that their goal was the stone golem. They had come as soon as the other guards had reported to their superiors and had been charged to bring him into the city to speak to him.
"And so it begins," Galio mused silently, watching their approach.

The name was my father's creation...
And it seems to me that the hammer is more than meets the eye. It seemed to... glow in response to how I felt. I think... it may be magical. Perhaps one reason my father treasured it so...
Poppy looks at Whomper for a short moment before continuing in response to Galio as the guards approach.
Noxus has done many things to the yordle-kind worth reparations. One time they captured a group of mere merchants and put them in solitary cells, killing all but one who was driven insane. That yordle... is now a dark magician with malicious intent towards his home city. My father's death is just the latest of the sins of Noxus...
But indeed, I believe we shall meet regularly considering we both have duties towards Demacia. It is good to know that there is someone here that truly understands what I have gone through, what stains Noxus has left on my mind...
I suppose the guards are here to bring you to talk with someone higher up. Good luck Guardian... and thank you for the shade out in the wilderness.
The resolute young yordle merely stands by and watches the guards approach, holding the hammer that is her own size without issue with a single hand. Ambassador of Bandle City... it would take quite a bit of time for the modest blacksmith's daughter to get used to.

Galio laughed lightly at her comment, something he had not done in a very long time. "Yes, you are very welcome, Poppy. I am sure I will be providing more than just shade here in Decmacia."
Just then, the group of guards came to stand in front of Galio, four in number. They hid their trepidation of being so near his hulking form well, and maintained a stoic outward impression. One of them, most likely the ranking member of the group, spoke, his eyes looking upwards and directly into the sentinel's, "Come with us. We have been directed to take you into the city."
The gargoyle returned the man's steady and sincere gaze. He simply replied, "I will come with you." No need for wordy introductions. Those would come later no doubt.
With a nod of farewell to the Yordle, Galio walked forward. The guards took up positions around him, and anyone in their way stepped aside to let them through. And so the sentinel stepped inside of Demacia once again. But this time, he had a different purpose in mind.
