From atop her throne, Maria surveyed her kingdom. The manor's grounds sprawled out in front of her, a testament to her father's importance in the former Noxian regime.
She turned slowly, smiling as her eyes fell across an inconspicuous skull sitting upon her desk. It was a common sight, skulls were quite possibly the most popular interior design choice that could be implemented by a Noxian; The skull of a Yordle fetched a hefty sum on the black market, while those of Demacian soldiers were often taken as trophies by the more barbaric of Noxian infantry.
But this one was special. Every time she saw it she was reminded of how she earned her place as a general, her place at the side of Jericho Swain. She remembered the rhythmic beat of her mechanical heart as she activated it for the first time, the feeling of power that filled her limbs as she awoke from the operation that had installed her invention.
A sickly young girl had died that day.
But a warrior with skin of steel had risen in her place.
Then came the challenge. A duel for her father's seat. The old man accepted, still blinded by visions of the frail young lady that had left his home for some college in Zaun; but as he attempted to cleave her in twain with his axe, he swiftly found that this was no longer the case. She still remembered the final words he uttered as she closed her hands around his neck.
"You're... not... my Daughter... What are you!?"
With wet snap, muffled by layers of skin and muscle, his life ended before he could even hear her response; the old General's head had been squeezed right off his shoulders.
"I am the future."
Maria spoke to nobody in particular, still staring at that worn out skull. It was a mere paperweight, tasked with keeping her blueprints from floating away.
Her lips curled into a wry smile as she exited her office, stalking down the hallway to her laboratory.
A carriage came to the Blackwind Manor at lunch time. Inside, High Command General and doctor Valeria Van Mordenheim looked at the estate grounds with her constantly tired expression, despite taking in the view.
Disembarking from the carriage at the manor’s drop off point, the doctor assisted two figures off- a pair of young girls, twins- her daughters, among the rare things that brought a smile to the Necromancer’s face. Always playing the Diplomat and scholar, she came for a social visit, and her two little blonde girls in the latest trending dresses carried baskets of goodies. Rounding out her entourage was her student-aid, Vivienne, a young doctor in training who bore a slight semblance to Valeria, and her chief bodyguard, the Ebon Knight. Standing tall, the knight said nothing.

Not late after Valeria, Jay came running up to the Blackwind manner. His hair and cloak was a mess, and his gauntlet was loosely fastened around his forearm. Under his arm was a makeshift string parcel of important papers. He had come straight from work at his house, notified by Maria that he may be needed today. Running up the driveway and to the stairs, he skidded to a halt, Valeria and her entourage in his path.
He gave a quick bow. "M-madam Valeria, sir! What...what are you doing here?" He grinned nervously, not expecting to see more than one high general today. He didn't interact with many of them often, especially not outside of work; and as is, Maria alone rarely let him ride smoothly. He was, simply put, scared of her, fearing how she may treat him, especially without the restrictions of work keeping him from...how would he put it...'Noxian Values.'

Maria lifted her head at the sound of the doorbell ringing, placing her Fluxfire welder back into it's socket on the wall. It wasn't often that she had guests, let alone ones that wished to pay visit to her domicile out of choice. She flagged down one of her machines, a horrific thing comprised of sharp edges and gangling limbs. It opened it's "mouth" to better allow access to it's voice recognition sensors.
Destroyer prototype 27-X. Retrieve your flamethrower attachment from the armory and commence cooking protocol; series B12 through B17. Shuriman Armadillo served without using the shell as a bowl this time, please; we have guests... and the table cloth is still recovering from last time.
The metallic behemoth stalked off, making a rumbling noise as it went. Oddly enough, Maria converted most of her obsolete prototypes into "House bots" or put them to work for her company in Zaun. The reason behind this being an oddity, was the woman's lack of concern for life otherwise; as the taxedermied Yordle in her living room attested. She opened the front door with a smile, one of her smaller constucts riding on her shoulder and screeching at her guests through a jagged maw of razor-sharp teeth in an "adorable" manner.
Welcome to my home, Valeria.
Her smile faded as she turned to the young Noxian man that ha crept up behind the necromancer, the eternal bearer of bad news that he was.

Jay gave a businesslike nod to Maria as she opened the door, glad she cut in before Valeria decided he was a good candidate for an experiment. "I wish I could take you seriously, Madam." He saluted her. "But I merely came to find and leave some papers. Nothing too big; merely some number crunching and schematics I drew up." He dropped his soldier guise, fishing out a few papers. "Oh, and I know the answer anyhow, but is there any chance of a promotion to engineer and a pay raise? Of course not. Now, I presume you want rid of me, so..." He turned to Valeria. "...madam? I apologize for taking the lead."

"Go ahead young man. Work before Leisure." Valeria kindly has her entourage make way, her Ebon Knight bodyguard less pleased than most, the tall armored figure keeping an eye on Jay.
Once he was on his way, Valeria looked at the... pet... then at Maria, giving her a polite Noxian Salute before showing off the gift baskets being carried by her two adorable... though slightly off... twin girls.
The baskets contained wide varieties of gourmet foodstuffs, and bottles of exotic wine. The frilly dresses contrasted the girls' un-childlike demeanors, the blonde twins bearing strong resemblance to the doctor.
"I have come for a social visit, General Blackwind. I hope it is not such a busy time for you. I even brought my daughters, Veronica and Vergilie... I hope you don't mind. I have been so busy I barely spend time with them, and this visit is the most appropriate time to bring them along." The doctor-General explained, always appearing friendlier than your average Noxian despite the ghastly stories surrounding the recent Disturbance at the Bleak Academy.
"May we come in?" She said, the doctor and her student aid picking up the gift baskets and offering another slightly tired smile.

Maria returned her peer's salute with on of her own, the mechanical creature on her shoulder screeching in agreement. Behind the General a fully automated home could be seen, an eerie backdrop of industrial noises only adding to the sinister atmosphere of Maria's domicile.
Of course, of course! Do come in; I have a lovely meal planned for us...
The tall woman knelt, lowering herself, with some difficulty due to her remarkable height, to the level of her comrade's twin children. She smiled, twin rows of perfect white teeth back-lit by a slight greenish luminescence.
Hello, you two... My name is Maria, and you must be Veronica and Vergilie? You look just like your mother...
Maria's smile remained as she inspected the children, despite the revelation of what exactly they were, and what they were to be used for. She brushed a long black strand of hair out of her face and stood back up to full height, towering over Valeria again, and giving her secretary a dismissive glance.
Hand off any papers you have to the Index droid in the library. If you wish to seriously discuss a position in engineering I'm afraid we'll need to discuss it at a later date.... One during which I am not entertaining guests.

Jay nodded. "Alright, ma'am, but remember; if the index droid tries to file me again, it's bloody well not my fault!" He then moved past her slightly, pausing just behind Maria. "Oh...less businesslike note. Is there enough dinner for...uh...me?" He smiled meekly. "I don't wish to intrude, but I'm famished, and your cooking is legendary." With a quick look behind him, he'd move to go to the library. "If no, I'll be on my way, but..." Once he'd receive his answer, he would file the papers and then either leave or join the party.

The two girls, being addressed, politely answered.
"Yes! I am Veronica Van Mordenheim! It's quite an honor to meet you, General Blackwind!" She said, enthusiastic.
Victoria hid behind Veronica, too shy to speak. Veronica pushed her forward, "This is... Victoria..." She said. Victoria made brief eye contact with Maria, and quickly went to hide inside her mother's outer robe.
Valeria, Vivenne her aid and niece, and her two daughters Veronica and Victoria (not Vergilie, that name doesn't fit >~< ) went inside Maria's home, followed closely behind by the tall and armored Ebon Knight. The Knight gave Maria a cautionary look, being the only one on Valeria's side matching her physical size. They make themselves politely comfortable in the living room first, the doctors quietly astounded to the unusual nature of Maria's house. They leave their gift baskets on the coffee table.
Of the twins Victoria displayed the morose and calm of her mother, whilst Veronica displayed a more childlike wonder and awe that seemed to break away from their behavior earlier. Vivienne moved to scold the vivacious rascal, but Valeria simply cautioned her to not touch anything.
"What's this?" Veronica would not even wait two seconds before moving on to the next object of interest in the living room. "What's that...?" She pointed to... something.
Valeria simply smirked at her child's antics, and allowed them to play while Maria begins preparing their meals. Valeria looked about the house, her scientific curiosity quite taken, even if it wasn't exactly her field. "Tell me General, do you entertain guests often in such a curious domicile ?"

Maria smiled as she watched the twin children romp their way down the hall, closely followed by one of her sinister looking contraptions; a skeletal thing blending feline, reptilian, and insectoid features in it's design. She turned her head towards her assistant as he inquired about a free meal, before sheepishly scuttling off as he often tended to do. Making a quick a mental note to send him home with a bag of leftovers, she decided to inform her companion about what exactly was pursuing her daughters.
The idea of a home defense unit that doubles as a house pet may seem rather silly, but I'd say it's been more than successful; The only issue remaining is exactly we market something called a "Carnifex class hunter-killer unit" as a companion for children.
She turned back to Valeria, continuing their walk to the dining room. The chefs were already in full motion, as evidenced by the sounds emanating from further down the hall.
To answer your question Valeria, my experience as a hostess is relatively little. Most of my business dealings happen through proxies, and the ones that I attend personally usually occur in Zaun... Most upper-class Zaunites tend to avoid this place, seeing as most are entirely unfit for combat. A nice suit and a fat wallet isn't going to help you survive a dagger to the spine.
Breezing past the door to her kitchen, Maria gave her shorter colleague only a small glimpse of the chefs preparing their meal; a nightmarish sideshow of mechanical creatures using their flesh rending weaponry to chop carrots and peel onions, one even using it's flamethrower attachment to heat a pot of stew... It was a strange sight, to say the least.

Jay eventually managed to get the filing robot working, and after he'd dropped the stuff off, he came back downstairs, meeting Maria and Valeria in the dining room. "Well, now that business is over, guess I can relax." He gave the pair a curt nod. "What's for dinner, anyhow? Smells great."
