<<DRAGON FORM>>
<<HUMAN FORM>>
(Art by ArkaEdri and dleoblack on DeviantArt, for dragon and human forms, respectively.)
Name: Daegorath
Alias: Lord of the Great Barrier, Dwimmyr the Traveler
Race: Dragon
Age: 3984
Residence: A network of caverns within the Western Great Barrier, north of Urtistan.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
---Abilities---
Daegorath, being a dragon himself, wields all of the gifts given to dragonkind. His eyes are keen enough to see well in both normal and low-light environments, such as the caverns within his mountain home. He can also breathe fire with great versatility, as can any of his kin; A gift most commonly used to forage for gems within the Great Barrier itself, but not uncommonly used to bring an end to the over-curious intruder.
Daegorath's favorite gift, however, is the runic magic stored within him; not only is he greatly resistant to magical assault, but he can also wield the magic within him to a great degree; This is largely due to his centuries of practice and study over the course of his largely reclusive life.
---SPELLS---
<Shapechanging>
Daegorath may shift between his human and dragon form at will. Although he prefers his draconic form, Daegorath often changes into his human form in order to better study human texts, obtain magical items, to pass through the land relatively unnoticed whilst seeking anything of particular interest to him, and to mete out punishment upon any who practice Rune Magic within his domain...Upon which they will learn the true meaning of a Dragon's Wrath.
<Arcane mastery>
Daegorath has studied magic extensively, and as such has an extensive repertoire of lesser spells which he frequently uses when his normal magic would be either too out-of-place or too overwhelming for the task at hand.
<<Thurisaz Magic>>
Daegorath has been gifted with power over the Thurisaz, the rune of arcane force. As such, his most powerful offensive abilities are centered around using pure arcane power to lock down and deal significant damage to any who dare incur his wrath.
In addition, Daegorath can sense magics around him. This can be tuned to specific forms of magic, which allows him to sense that type at a greater distance at the expense of shutting out other forms of magic to a great degree. Currently, he is seeking out Rune Magics.
▲-Arcane Barrier
Daegorath constructs a barrier of arcane force which he can shape as he desires. The potential size and durability of said barrier is diminished the further it is cast from him. The barrier prevents any solid matter from passing through it and is incredibly resistant to magic, but heavy arcane force and certain off-world magics can disrupt it. The largest thing that Daegorath can conjure is a sphere with a 50-ft radius around himself.
▲-Disruption
Daegorath uses his innate connection with arcane magic against his opponent, firing a blast of power that dispels most arcane effects and temporarily disrupts enchantments, while silencing the target itself as the sheer power of the bolt drowns out their feeble magics.
Dispell: Instant
Disrupt: 30S
Silence: 5S
▲-Kinetic Bolt
Daegorath conjures a bolt of force energy, dealing light damage and knocking back or away any units or objects along it's path. The bolt itself is roughly 18” in diameter, and can knock over objects less than 500 lbs. The lighter the object or enemy, the higher/further it flies. The bolt dissipates after 120 feet.
▲-Force Missile
Daegorath conjures a flurry of 10 arcane bolts, each dealing moderate damage and staggering the targets hit. Each missile can strike individual targets or the same target.
▲-Force Blast
Daegorath fires a bolt of magic which deals large amounts of damage and knocks targets away from the point of detonation.
▲-Arcane Capacitor
Daegorath can absorb ambient magical energy in the atmosphere or a portion of any magic attacks directed at him, charging up a store of arcane power which he can then later release as a very powerful blast of force energy. This ability can be used to clean up a portion of the arcane pollution caused by using rune magic; However, as with all runic effects, the longer it has been in place and the more widespread or complex it is, the more difficult it is to scrub out.
---Relationships---
Humans: Daegorath sees humans as but mewling creatures, Noisy, annoying, and inexplicably given gifts that they can never truly understand. As for those within his territory, he sees himself as a harsh lawmaker and executioner; Woe be to those who practice destructive Magicks under the shadow of the Western Great Barrier, for they will soon feel the searing pain of dragonfire.
Nonhumans: Depending on their kind, Daegorath sees nonhumans in a very similar manner to humans themselves; Noisy, annoying, and -on occasion, far less often than with humans- gifted with incredible powers far beyond their stature. The only forms of nonhumans that Daegorath truly considers a threat are the Voidspawn and the Shadow Islanders; Threats which, were they revealed, he would readily act to cleanse from this world.
Half-Dragons: Daegorath sees half-dragons as a violation to all he holds sacred; A human born with all the gifts that only a true-blooded dragon could truly wield and appreciate. As such, Daegorath will readily destroy any such abomination the moment it enters his range.
Other Dragons: Daegorath holds other dragons in relatively high regard; however, he will hold them to a strict code of non-aggressive conduct whilst within his territory, lest they too incur his wrath. Beyond that, however, he treats all other dragons with the respect that they deserve.
---Description---
Daegorath, in his dragon form, stands 28 feet at the shoulder and is 45 feet from nose to tail. He bears an 80-foot wingspan, which is more than enough to keep his ample weight – around 8400 pounds – aloft in flight. A beard of scales adorns the lower half of his jaw, while twin ridges of scales rise backwards upon his head, starting at his nostrils and branching off near the back of his head into a pair of wide horns, curved forward and downward at a slight angle. A smaller set of ridges rises up between the larger two and continues down his back, ending several feet from the end of his tail. His tail is adorned by a fanned, winglike membrane used for better steering his bulk whilst flying.
His durable scales are a blue-gray color mottled with flecks of green, while the softer scales upon his underbelly bear a more tan-ish color than those upon the rest of his body. The membranes of his fore-wings and tail-wings both share the same blue-gray color as the rest of his body, but lack the mottled green. His eyes are of a pair of burning Citrine gems, orange in color and bearing the snakelike pupils of his kind.
In human form, Daegorath – often calling himself Dwimmir, the Traveler, if secrecy is necessary – is a giant of a man, standing at 6'8” with broad shoulders and bearing a well-toned build. He bears brownish-red hair, with streaks of grey hinting at the age of the creature within, with a beard following his entire jawline. Were there any feature which could give him away, it would be his eyes: Even in his human form, his irises retain their burning orange quality.
Daegorath tends to wear practical clothing of browns and greens; travelers' boots, simple pants with but a slightly more elaborate tunic, a forest-green cloak, and leather bracers. He also carries a wooden staff with him; a walking stick that serves as a more than adequate weapon, should combat come down to blows or an overzealous youth challenge the ancient being to a lighthearted spar.
---Biography---
Daegorath was born eons ago, and started his life as any other young dragon; competing and fighting amongst his siblings - fights in which Daegorath always strove for victory, especially given their often fatal nature - and learning the ways of the world from his mother. When he came of age, he left his mother's den alone, as the last survivor of her ofspring, and flew off search of new territory. Off, to the north and west he flew, raiding small towns for sustenance until he came across the Great Barrier, north of the land the humans called 'Urtistan'. It was in these immensely large mountains that Daegorath made his home, using his dragonfire to carve out his den and search for food in the form of mountain goats and the occasional gemstone.
While still in his youth, Daegorath became fascinated with both his own magic and the dabblings of the sorcerers within his territory. He viewed the arcane arts as a gift upon which he had been most gratefully bestowed, and respected magic's power in both his doings and that of others.
Centuries passed, and all was at peace. Daegorath's horde steadily grew, a plethora of arcane tomes, scrolls, and items of magical power stashed away in antechambers hollowed out by dragonfire for later reading at his leisure. Truly, no dragon could ask for anything better; the humans in his territory did not threaten him, and, in fact, he sometimes aided them – if they had the guile to both appeal to his more noble side and offered arcane knowledge in exchange.
However, there came a time when men drew up their swords and spells against one another. Daegorath saw that the men whom he had so peacefully reigned over had turned against one another, abusing their gift of magic to wage war and destroying the land around them in the process. Enraged at this heresy, Daegorath flew down from his mountain in a maelstrom of flame and magic, surgically destroying those who abused the gifts that had been given them before returning to the peak of his mountain den, a cavern which he had hollowed with his dragonfire and had become his primary place of residence. The message had been made clear to those who lived below: Those who practiced destructive Magic would taste Dragonfire just as surely as the sun was to rise the next day.
Time passed, and life went on whilst Valoran became more and more polluted by magics. However, if there were one place almost untouched by the Rune Wars, it would be a small town at the foothills of the Great Barrier known as Guelder; The folk who lived there were peaceful in nature and only practiced healing magics, confident in their draconic guardian to defend them from the mages who sought nothing but conquest. To this day, these people abhor mages of all sorts - save for clerics - , casting them out of their villages for fear that they might incur Daegorath's ire.
In his spare time, Daegorath enjoys studying the vast horde of arcane knowledge he has accumulated, both improving on theories left behind and advancing his own magics through these studies. He often ventures out of his mountaintop home to seek out further knowledge upon which he can expand his library, being that those towns under his immediate sphere of influence abhor most magics to an incredible degree. Still, he finds himself most at home while he is at home; Amongst the mountains of the Great Barrier, soaring between their peaks and basking in whatever sunlight manages to peek through the opening of his den.
<<LONG-TERM GOALS>>
Daegorath's first and primary goal is to contain the use of rune magic and all it's forms, and to prevent the younger species of Valoran from abusing any form of arcane power. To do this, he will actively seek out and study the magics of the world, as well as respond to any trace of runic activity to contain it and repair any damage its use may have causesd.
