((Semi-open as in people can watch on the sidelines if they want, but do not interfere with the actual event.))
7th of July, 23 CLE
It had been a week since Poppy had returned to Demacia from her time home in Bandle City where she had been resting, and healing from the invasion that shook Demacia two months before. Her left arm had been broken completely, and so forth unable to be moved for over a month. The muscles had shrunk and needed some practice, some of which she had done back in Bandle at the forge. But there was one type of practice she wished for...
Combat training. So for this reason, she had asked Garen, the Might of Demacia, to meet her at the barracks training grounds in the Golden City for a friendly spar. In honor of her opponent, she had decided to wear the new armor she had made and worn in the defense of Demacia during the invasion, made of smoother, stronger scales and plates of metal than her usual armor, and colored silver and gold, seeming closer to a Demacian than usual. She also had a large, ornate, gold and silver colored shield with her, and Whomper as usual.
And so she stands at the sidelines of the barracks training grounds, watching the soldiers train and learn while she waited for the Might of Demacia to arrive upon the scene. This would be something for the troops to remember and learn from...

Lucas heard of the fight. The Iron Ambassador, Poppy, versus The Might of Demacia, Garen. One more indomitable than the other. This was worth watching, for he could learn a lot about swordsmanship watching Garen, not to mention how to defeat a seemingly invicible and fully armored up enemy. And so, he came to watch, learn, and put the lessons to use afterwards. For now however, he would kill time with repeating sword strikes and the occasional push-ups.
I am a Pathfinder. I will do what everyone else thinks below him, because someone must do it. Call me dishonorable for it all you want. I serve justice, not honor. And Demacia, ofcourse.

Garen had gladly accepted the invitation to train with the Iron Ambassador. Poppy needed something more intensive than simple weight lifting for her rehabilitation after the injuries she took in defence of Demacia against the Shadow Isles, and Garen needed something to show his men how things were done. It was win-win. Besides, what kind of fighter would willingly give up a chance to cross blades with a champion of the League?
Clad in his ordinary blue and yellow armour, sword strapped to his back, the Might of Demacia strode into the barracks with a few of his men trailing close behind him. New recruits into the Dauntless Vanguard who had never seen what a champion could do. This was as good a chance to show them as he was ever going to get, short of arranging another serious battle off the Fields of Justice.
"Sorry I'm late, Poppy. Any ground rules you want to set down before we begin?"

Poppy nods as Garen arrives, lifting Whomper against her shoulder and holding the large shield with her left, previously injured arm.
It is of no harm Garen. And for rules, let us try and avoid causing any major injuries. It would after all be against the purpose of re-training my arm to break it once more.
She walks on over to the middle of an empty training ring, turning around to look at the tall, strong Demacian warhero and Champion of the League. She was barely tall enough to reach his waist in height, yet in combat, they were quite equals. This would be quite an intriguing spar, and hopefully help her to have her arm back to shape.

"Very well. En garde, Poppy!" Garen nodded and stepped forward, his broadsword flashing in a diagonal arc towards the yordle without any hesitation. Garen had never seriously fought a yordle off the Fields of Justice and he doubted if he would ever need to, but there was no reason not to figure out how trying to hit somebody half his size worked.
The Might of Demacia knew the champion known as the Iron Ambassador was strong. She was a champion after all - none of them could ever be called weak. It was time to find out just how strong she actually was, and how tough those iron defences of hers truly were.

The sentence of words coming from Garen's mouth sounded like something Fiora Laurent would say to Poppy's ear. Shaking her head, she lifts her shield against the approaching sword, using the power of Garen's strike to move herself around and swing Whomper in a wide arc at the man's side.
She then takes a step back to try and avoid a counter-attack.

Garen pushed right on despite the guard that Poppy had put up, sending himself hurtling forward past the range of Whomper. His armour would be of little use against that warhammer of hers, and he did not particularly relish the chance to find out just how well his suit would fold beneath her blows first hand. The hammer grazed against his side as he just barely managed to get out of the way of her strike, and he quickly re-evaluated his options. It would be extremely difficult for him to break through her defences between her compact frame and huge shield.
His greater size meant greater reach so if he was Fiora he would dance out of her range and try prodding in, but for all the things that Garen was, a Laurent was not one of them. What he could do however, was to put the shield as far away from him as possible, to put himself on her right, where she held Whomper and not her shield.
So he did, stepping to his left - her right - and swinging his sword in a large backhand arc towards her side.

Feeling her swing miss, Poppy glances to Garen and notices the swing coming. Her chainmail would make it so that the sword just slides off, but the strength of the hit would no doubt take the air from her lungs, which in a real situation could cause a fatal mistake.
So, she quickly pulls on Whomper, knowing she could get the shield over fast enough, and barely gets it between the end of the closing blade and her side, the long handle taking the strike without even really gaining a scratch. The enchantments on the hammer were getting more useful by the day it seemed...
She then quickly steps back, looking up at the Might of Demacia.
I must say, you never showed this kind of speed on the Fields without those... artifacts they used. Fast runner yes, not as fast at swinging a blade.
She then lifts Whomper with both hands, the shield hanging on to her left arm by it's straps as she charge towards Garen again, the hammer scraping on the ground as she swings at him upwards. Considering her stature, there was only one real place the hammer could hit with this swing... and it would hurt a man to be hit there normally, let alone with Poppy's swing.

The Sentinel had arrived late to the practice duel. Though he had heard of the impending match of blade and hammer beforehand, he had other duties to attend to first before coming to the training grounds. He circled the pair once, before landing to the side, far enough away so as to not distract them nor interfere.
He touched down lightly--belying his bulk. Settling himself, he sat and watched the proceedings, never missing a movement either of them made. Being tactically inclined, Galio hoped to perceive any mistakes Poppy would make, and then perhaps offer advice. He would examine Garen's fighting as well, but he was unsure as to whether or not the Might of Demacia would be willing to take advice from the gargoyle.
Though he rarely took sides in such tests of skill, he secretly hoped Poppy would win, or at least best Garen in some way if there was not a clear victor.

"They don't say I have a decisive strike because my blade is slow, Poppy!" Garen chuckled as he disengaged from Poppy, holding his blade steady with both hands in front of him. He had not expected a clean hit - Poppy was too good for that - but he had not even manage to scratch Whomper's paintjob. Her smithing was definitely not inferior to her fighting at least.
Spotting Galio's arrival out of the corner of his eye, Garen acknowledged the Sentinel's Sorrow with a silent nod and quickly went back to paying Poppy his full attention once more. He did not want to be caught off guard.
Especially considering what she was trying to do now.
Watching the hammer cut the ground, the Might of Demacia's eyes widened ever so slightly as he calculated its trajectory in his mind. This would not do. Quickly placing his sword in the path of the hammer, Garen felt the crash of Whomper through his entire body, his feet leaving the ground from the sheer force of Poppy's attack. Landing a foot away with a slight stumble, Garen was almost amazed he managed to stay on his feet. Not exactly classy, but at least he managed to protect his... sword.
"That was quite dangerous." Garen coughed, making a mental note to keep that area better protected against smaller enemies.

After the swing had finished, Poppy took a step back and lifts the hammer to her shoulder. She notices Galio watching their spar, and gives the Guardian a slight, polite bow before turning back to Garen.
As underhanded as that is... there aren't that many strategic spots for someone of my stature to attack a human at. One must at times take whatever chances they can utilize...
She then lets the hammer fall to the ground again, launching a clump of dirt into the air at the impact.

"This is why the most important part of putting on armour every day is making sure the cup is secure." Garen nodded sagely, speaking to the soldiers watching the fight as much as to Poppy herself. He was the soldier all the other soldiers looked up to - might as well teach them a thing or two while they were here.
Taking a deep breath as he faced his opponent once more, Garen considered the angles of attack open to him carefully. A smaller target was already naturally difficult to hit, and with the master-work shield and hammer protecting her, Poppy was definitely going to be a tough nut to crack. Still, he had to try. He could always beat her through sheer attrition if nothing else worked. He had only met one person that could match him on that front, and she was nowhere near Demacia.
"CHARGE!" Garen let out a battle cry as he ran forward, quickly closing the distance between himself and his enemy as he swung his sword right down at Poppy with a stroke that would cut her right into two equal halves if she did not defend herself. And if this was not just a spar, any way.

Galio had nodded without a word to both contestants as they had acknowledged him in their own ways. Nothing more needed to be said, nor done. It was enough. The Sentinel's Sorrow was merely a spectator in this match of skill.
And speaking of the match, Galio had been careful to observe the way Garen and Poppy had fought so far. He though Poppy's "underhanded" attack to be a smart move on her part, due to the fact it forced Garen to block a blow coming from an unusual direction. No doubt the Might of Demacia did not have the chance to be attacked by Yordles everyday, and such experience gained through Poppy would be beneficial. However, the gargoyle had noticed Garen took the full blow of Poppy's hammer on his sword, which caused him to lose his balance for a moment. Moments in battle were crucial, and perhaps after the practice duel he would suggest to Garen that next time he should try to deflect such a blow to the side which would put the attacker on the back foot. This would in turn give him the upper hand, and not the other way round.
Now, he watched closely as Garen charged the armored Yordle. Perhaps a direct attack was not the best method of going about fighting such an armored opponent. Certainly, he would have a hard time cleaving through such armor--not to mention the shield itself--and as such perhaps he should have tried getting past her shield by circling to her right. Though undoubtedly she would turn in the opposite direction to keep him in front. If he had been quick, he might have been able to take advantage of the fact it is hard to block with a hammer.
Yes, analyzing a battle is what Galio did best. And one in which particular skill was displayed only added to the intensity of it all.

As Garen charges towards her, Poppy merely waits in a prepared position. When the swing downwards comes towards her, she takes a step to the side and lifts her shield in an angled position to deflect the sword away.
She then takes a few steps to the side, swinging Whomper towards the back of Garen's left knee, which if not avoided, would most likely cause him to lose his balance.
