Survived the Rune Wars. Anivia's mind reeled at the new information. Even if he only meant the most recent wars, the man before her was well over a century old. She may not have been on the world long, but of the men she had seen frailed rapidly with age. Tekun was not just strong, but within his fighting prime. If he survived, he would have quite the story to tell. Not the typical warrior indeed.
"There is more to you than meets the eye. A survivor you may be, but that does not make you a rescuer." She flexed the wing toward the tunnel below it again, this time causing some debris to fall from the ceiling. Stubborn and stupid as he might be, his methods were effective. Yet now most of her body lay buried in the snow. "One you start moving toward the surface, you will have to leave me behind, at the very least until you reach a new pocket of air." Like him, she didn't leave the point open to debate.
"Tell me, why would a survivor like you wander into the Ironspikes without a companion? Clearly you are from Freljord. You knew the risks."

“…There was someplace I wanted to go that was worth dying to see. It’s special to me.” Tekun struck the snow again with his same method. “…It’s far off and I was due to go there. The weather suddenly took a turn for the worst. Unusually.” He struck again. The snow buckling and he moved to clear it.
“…It might not make me a rescuer but I would like to be this one time. You tried to be mine, so let me be yours.” He paused and struck one more time and pressed it this time, he was so close to freeing. “Move your wing as I do this…we’re freeing it now. Then I can work on the ceiling. From there, I’ll work something out.”

"The weather is not the only thing that has been unusual," Anivia muses as he works, "it's as if the world itself is crying out in protest but I cannot find a cause." She sighs, a blast of fresh air pouring from her massive lungs. "You should consider taking a partner with you on your travels. These are uneasy times."
"...I do not know how much this will help your goals." She pulls her wings toward each other with all the strength born of a life of carrying her bulk. The snow crumbles, but Anivia lets out a cry of pain. The bulk of her wing was free of the ice, but her wingtips still lie bent in the ice, twisted beyond normal limits by the force of her escape. "My anatomy is avian, not humanoid. The muscles do not exist to merely extract the wing backwards." She turns her head the other way, the small cavern beneath her now filled with the snow he had moved. "And this is but one wing. If you wish to drag me from the ice, there is only one way that you can do it quickly."

“Dire times and maybe from now on, but that would require someone as durable as me.” He replied. “Maybe…” Now it was a matter of moving her so that he could get the area just behind her and worked upon it carefully with his blade.
“I’m quite aware. Sorry about your wing.” Tekun felt guilt for the damage he inflicted and it made him gladder he hadn’t slain her here within the confines of their icy prison. “Let me work upon the ceiling here…I’m not leaving without you.” This was going to take some time, more importantly Tekun needed to be careful so that he didn’t risk a cave in.

With some effort, she folds the wing, scraping it across Tekun's back in the process. He would live or die trying this, the argument was no longer in her hands. The wing lies poorly on her back, crystalline fragments settling in odd directions, particularly near the wingtips where fractures glowed ominously in the dark. She looked over it with an appraising eye, but made no comment as Tekun moved to work on the ceiling. Despite herself, she was becoming attached to the man's spirit. He had the will of a protector, even if he lacked the power of one. He reminded her of her people.
She began digging at her second wing with her beak. If he insisted on this foolishness of bringing her along, she might as well make herself useful, but was unwilling to chill the cavern further with her power. Her voice reverberated through the room despite her buried head, "I see that finding somebody of your durability might be difficult. I expect I would be laying a normal man in his grave by now with this miscalculation." Had he not remained awake after the crash, she would have considered freezing him in mercy. "What is it that allows you to win so often against impossible odds?"

“Yeah. To be honest, I was rather livid when I realized what you did. No point in getting pissed off about it further though, it would only serve to get me killed.” Tekun commented as he continued his series of strike, slowly making progress as he now climbed his way to the top.
“Long ago, I was changed due to runic magic. My body isn’t normal any more. It doesn’t age easily, and it doesn’t get hurt as easily as a normal person’s.” Tekun understated. He had survived wounds that killed most men. Dying wasn’t something he thought he could do.
“That and you need to overcome them or die. The latter should be avoided I believe, so I’ve no choice but the former. “

It was dark now. All good intentions aside, she was far more durrable than he would ever be. At least he was smart enough to realize that. Her voice remain unmuffled despite the ice that filled in her cavern. She called back almost playfully as the threat of imminent death faded, "You know as well as I do that it was this pocket of air that saved you. It wouldn't have mattered how near the surface you were if you couldn't breathe or move your arms to dig."
Runic magic, then. It was a similar form of power that gave rise to the Phoenix themselves. Always they squashed it on their own world. Thousands had died instantly on this world from its use, but some were not so lucky. The tales of pain, mutation, and creeping death still made her want to shake out her wings, bringing her immediately back to the present. "I have heard much from the summoners of the dangers effects of that magic, but never that it was used to grant boons. How long ago did this happen?"

“During the first few years of the first one.” Tekun replied with another strike. Tiring, he reclined back now and removed that flask, with one more greedy drink he downed the remainder that was within his flask for extra warmth and energy. “…You know, I think I would have had something for that.” Tekun mused as he began another cycle of amplified strikes. “But I can’t say for sure. I don’t like dealing in what ifs.” Tekun struck deeper and suddenly snow came pouring down, sliding and covering Tekun here and there. There was a rush of cold air that washed over his face, his eyes looking up to see that he was getting ever closer.
“I don’t know how long we’ve been doing this for…but…I think I’ll be able to get to the surface soon. I’ll get you out next. After this, I’m still continuing. You’re welcome to join me.”

Anivia paused in her attempts at loosening the snow around her in shock. The first rune war had started almost five centuries ago. If he was being truthful, and she had no reason to doubt his word, this man may be closer to a kindred spirit to her than any human besides the Chronokeeper himself. Like her, he had been pulled from the reality that he knew, and made the most of his new circumstances. Her eyes narrowed in determination as Tekun's voice became muffled in the snow, too far to respond to. It was almost laughable, the concept of a cryophoenix trapped within her own element. Tekun was a man of Freljord, and had survived many times his natural lifetime. Certainly he could handle a little more cold.
As a she released a deluge of otherworldly power, the ice that encased her shifted and groaned. She had asserted herself little on this world, a nature unbound and unregulated by elemental protectors. It was time that she fully accept her fate of life apart from her people. If she was to spend the rest of her days in this land, she must become a part of it.

Swing after swing Tekun whittled until his felt the snow give way. The warrior smirked as he saw something above him…the sky. A large grin stretched across his face as he began to climb. He wasn’t sure how much time had passed and the grey sky above was no hints at all. It took some time but he soon shuffled out onto the surface and inhaled deeply of the cold, fresh air.
“Alright…I’m out. You’re next.” Tekun thought about how he would go about freeing her in the quickest way possible. It didn’t take too terribly long for him to decide before he removed a small canister like object that resembled completely with a pin and moved away, giving himself some room.
“You’re going to feel an intense heat shortly. You should be fine…but don’t be alarmed.” Tekun pulled the pin from it and lobbed it a short distance away, near the hole he had created but above Anivia. Tekun kept away and watched as the device ignited with a loud hiss. The area around the device ignited and a small inferno spread shortly after. Tekun could feel the intense heat from here and was forced to step back as it made quick work of the snow and ice. However, the inferno had been staggered due to the arctic air; it wouldn’t last as long as Tekun would have wanted but it would likely get the job done.

As fire spewed from the device, it slowly ate its way through the snow, sinking ever deeper into its own crater. After clearing away the surface, however, the center of the inferno began to gutter and dissipate. A small mound of ice was left surrounded in a ring of fire when a wind sprung to life at its peak. As the whirlwind grew, it bit into the untouched ice, evolving from a children's spectacle to a truly destructive force. Finally, the ring was breached, throwing chaotic amalgamation of fire and ice through the sky. Alternating waves of blistering heat and frigid cold would buffet the surroundings before the phenomenon dissipated into a heavy snow. At the center of the crater, Anivia folded her left wing against her body with a small shake, the white runes that adorned her body shining brightly through the rising steam.

It seemed that with his additional effort she had been freed. Tekun had a satisfied grin spread widely across his face a sense of accomplishment had indeed filled him. He’d escaped death once more and this time had done it on his own terms. He moved to the opposite side of the crater and came into full view of the Cyrophoenix’s sight.
“Can you move?” Tekun wasn’t sure if she needed further help or not, more importantly if she did need help could he even move her? The phoenix was far heavier than he could have ever anticipated. “I guess this is certainly a start.” Tekun glanced about his surroundings and it donned upon him that it was still rather awful out, his vision was still mostly obscured, but he had an idea of which direction he had been heading in at least. It meant he could refocus his efforts on his intended trip.

Anivia crouched toward the ground, as if to jump into the air, but stopped as soon as her right wing left her side. She gingerly lowered the wing, placing it upon her back without any wasted motion. "Yes, I am free of the ice," she replies, avoiding comment on her damaged wing. With an awkward gait, she began walking up the side of the crater, "A warrior of all five rune wars... Many would kill - do kill to have the life that you've gained through tragedy." She notes him regaining his bearings, intent to move on immediately despite the near-fatal experience. "If it is not private to you, I would ask what a man who has seen more than any other could claim to is willing to die to see again."

“But they don’t get it. Maybe for good reason, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.”
Tekun watched as she made her way out, but not without flying. Odd, but regardless he began making progress once more. Occasionally he sparred her a glance back.
“Nothing private but the place is…it’s just some place in my youth. Up on the mountain, away from the world. Away from prying eyes. It’s better to not describe it but for you to see it for yourself.”

Anivia kept pace with the warrior easily her heavy footfalls hardly scoring the ground despite her immense weight. It was strange... she had flown between these mountain peaks countless times yet the view from the ground was completely foreign to her. With a single split second decision, she had thrown herself from the world she knew into that of the humans. Even simply walking through the mountains rather than soaring over them gave her a new perspective on their experience of life. She glanced at her companion as he spoke. His face showed determination and willpower, certainly, but it was also haunted by half-seen visions of the past. No, her experience was still far from human, but so was the human's she traveled with.
Her eyes dimmed slightly with her response, "On the mountains the world is spread far and wide before you. Being away from the world... is something very different." She looked away, walking in silence for some time before speaking again. "The only prying eyes here are mine, for what help they may have given you. I look forward to seeing your place, Tekun."
