Melanie was quite confused, did she really have an older brother? No.. or did she? She had never been told about him, as far as she knew she was an only child, but if he was her brother, that would mean that he might know why they left her. Something didn't add up, where was he during all those years she lived at home?
"Okay, I'm just going to bite the bullet and ask, if you are my brother, where have you been all my life? They never told me about you and why would they bother finding me now?"

This meeting could only be more and more shocking, as Jon couldn't think of any explanation - or situation - that would result in his sister (if she really was his sister) being completely unaware of his existence, and vice versa.
There was some really crazy stuff going down here.
"Well, in all honesty I could ask the same thing about you being my sister; I never even heard of you being mentioned ever. And you look awfully young to be my sister... how old are you? I'm 39," Jon replied, trying to work out how this situation could even be possible...
...although as he thought it over, he realized it could be possible depending on her age; after all, there was a long time where he simply forgot about informing his parents after some time...

"What side you're on isn't of concern to me. What is of concern is that you're hurt, and I need to treat you for it." -Jon
"Contrary to what some believe, violence does not solve everything. In fact, it solves nothing." -Jon
She crossed her arms and tilted her head a little, too young? That was a first. "I'm 25 years old and I'm not surprised they didn't mention me.. They left me all alone after all, not one word, not one letter, they just disappeared." She said and waited for him to respond.

Jon raised an eyebrow, now coming to realize it might very well have been possible his parents were trying to lead a double life.
"Odd, the way you described your mother and father could fit the same as mine; for some good decade and a half I never got to talk to them: too busy, alas." As he spoke, his stomach grumbled; he hadn't eaten just yet, and he remembered to stop by that one particular pizza parlor he wanted to go to...
"There is something I think could fit the story here, but first I'd need to ask you: when did you last see your mother and father?"

She thought for a second, when was the last time she saw them or wrote to them? "Last time I had any contact with them was eleven years ago, I had just started to study in Demacia and they stopped writing letters to me even though we had done it once a week for two years." She didn't like this man at the moment, something was too fishy about him, could he be the reason her parents disappeared?

Something became clear for Melanie, the day her parents had left her, they went to Ionia because he wanted them to come there. And because of him she was left all alone. It was his fault. She felt her pulse rise a bit as she puzzled things together, he was the reason they stopped writing to her, he was the reason they left her. It was all his fault. "You..." she said with a cold tone, "You are the reason they left me, you are the reason I WAS LEFT ALONE!" She had never felt as angry as she did at that moment. She just wanted to stab him in the face there and then, but she had some self control left in her.

Jon's confusion at seeing Mel slowly turn angry was replaced by a momentary defensive mechanism at her outburst; his hand instinctively went to his holster, though he did not put his hand on his revolver.
"Woah - WOAH! - hold up here miss: I never even knew you even g--d--- existed, much less take 'our' parents away from you! Need I remind you just who'd be the older sibling here if we were actually brother and sister?"
"Also, there was a bloody d--- fine reason why I asked them to come: 'we' have relatives. And they. Were. In. Danger."
"Look at it in my situation as a whole: I go back to dad's homeland and find that his side of the extended family's safe, only to remember that they're caught in the middle of a Noxian invasion. What do I do? What any sane person would do: call their family back and ask them to help them get their relatives out of harm's way, which we did!"
"I don't know how you see it, but before you go off accusing me of 'leaving you alone,' you should maybe sit and realize I didn't even ****ing know you ever existed!" Jon kept his temper low until his final phrase; as someone not accustomed to receiving such a vocal attack, it struck a small nerve in him, and it was no surprise that his voice raised with it.
It was a surprise that as the voices got raised, they drew very little attention; a few passerby in the academy turned their heads, but did little else as the two had their conversation become heated.

She shook her head, she didn't care to listen to what he said, to her he was just someone who had ruined her life, "NO.. YOU ARE NOT MY BROTHER!"
"DO YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS FOR A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD TO COME HOME TO AN EMPTY HOUSE?! DO YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO BE LEFT BEHIND BY YOUR PARENTS?! YOU MADE THEM COME TO IONIA, YOU RUINED MY LIFE!" She noticed that some looked at them when she yelled, she just ignored them.

Having his attempts to calm her down being spat back in his face had his old temper return in all of it's fire; he took off his helmet, and throwing it into the ground, gave off quite a retort that definitively made passerby stop in shock.
"Well... PARDON ME!!!"
"YOU THINK SEEING YOUR PARENTS 'GONE' IS BAD ENOUGH? YOU HAVEN'T SEEN HALF THE **** I'VE SEEN THEN, THAT'S FOR SURE!"
"YOU AT LEAST HAD THE BLISSFUL IGNORANCE OF BEING ABLE TO STUDY AT YOUR OWN LEISURE AND WILL IN DEMACIA; MEANWHILE I WAS GONE FOR A DECADE, WITHOUT ANY SIGN OF MY PARENTS TO TALK TO: FIRST IT WAS IN THE ACADEMY, THEN IN THE PATROL, AND THEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR..."
"...WHERE I JUST SO HAPPENED TO BE BUSY DOING 3 THINGS AT ****ING ONCE: TRYING TO KEEP OUR EXTENDED FAMILY ALIVE, TRYING TO KEEP MYSELF ALIVE, AND TRYING TO KEEP EVERYONE ELSE THAT WAS CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR ALIVE! YOU THINK THAT WAS EASY TO DO?! YOU THINK ONE MAN CAN DO IT ALL?!"
"I HAD PEOPLE KILLED UNDER MY CARE, CIVILIANS DECAPITATED IN FRONT OF MY EYES: G--D--- IT, I EVEN HAD CHILD'S THROAT CUT RIGHT BEHIND MY BACK JUST BECAUSE I HAD TO SAVE SOMEONE ELSE FOR 10 ****IN' SECONDS! AND IF I WEREN'T THERE WITH THE HELP OF MY PARENTS, OUR EXTENDED FAMILY WOULD ALL BE DEAD! ALL OF THEM!!"
"YOU CAN SAY HOW I 'STOLE' YOUR PARENTS ALL YOU WANT, YOU CAN SAY HOW I 'RUINED YOUR LIFE,' OR WHATEVER YOU D--- PLEASE!...."
"...BUT DON'T YOU EVER - EVER - TRY TO TELL ME HOW IT FEELS TO NOT HAVE PARENTS WHEN I MYSELF WASN'T ABLE TO SEE THEM FOR A DECADE AND VERY WELL COULD HAVE SEEN THEM DIE RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY VERY OWN EYES!!!"
"And finally..." Jon finally calmed down after his rant, though he was still quite mad, "You can yell at me all you want for having mom and dad leave you in the dark for a long time... but don't you ever try to tell me I ruined your life when I have up my best years to make sure it wouldn't be ruined..."
Again, she didn't really bother to listen to everything he said, she didn't care about the war, she didn't care about some people who she'd never meet, at the moment all she cared about was herself, it might seem selfish, but that is how she got by after her parents disappeared. Don't care about the others and you'll do fine, she thought, until she met Adal, the only person she really cared about."I WAS FOURTEEN!! I WAS COMPLETELY ALONE, I HAD NO ONE, YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT YOURSELF AS IF YOU ARE A SAINT, IF YOU REALLY CARED ABOUT OUR PARENTS WHY DID YOU DRAG THEM TO THE MIDDLE OF A F*****G BATTLEFIELD?!
"AT LEAST YOU COULD TALK TO THEM..." She felt tears rolling down her cheeks, "YOU COULD TALK TO THEM! WHAT COULD I DO? NOTHING! DO YOU KNOW HOW SCARY IT IS FOR A CHILD TO BE ALONE?! I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN. YOU RUINED MY LIFE BY TAKING AWAY MY PARENTS, I WILL NEVER, NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THAT!" She took a deep breath before saying her last sentence before walking away. "Tell them I'm dead, it's better that way..."

Mel's first response left Jon almost convinced this woman was one who could not be reasoned with, but he saw no other alternative... his temper re-emerged for a moment in the meantime.
"Oh yeah? And guess how old I was when I lost contact with them?"
"...EIGHT. THAT'S RIGHT, I WASN'T EVEN OLD ENOUGH TO LEGALLY LEAVE THE CITY ON MY OWN WHEN MY PARENTS LEFT ME IN THE DARK!!!"
"AND YOU THINK I'M TRYING TO BE A SAINT? WELL... MAYBE I AM! THIS WORLD COULD USE A FEW PEOPLE HELPING OTHERS FOR ONCE!"
"AND YOU ACT AS IF YOU HAD NO ONE? AT LEAST YOUR PARENTS ARE STILL AROUND! THE ONLY ONES THAT KNEW ME LONG ENOUGH ARE DEAD - YOU GET THAT? DEAD!" As if to make his point, he took out from his uniform some chains with tags on them, and shook it in front of Mel.
"YOU THINK EVERYONE MADE IT? WRONG - ALL OF MY BUDDIES CAME TO HELP! AND YOU KNOW WHAT'S LEFT OF THEM? HERE - A TAG FOR EACH FRIEND! YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE SEEN YOUR PARENTS IN A WHILE, BUT AT LEAST YOU COULD HAVE HAD A FRIEND OR TWO - I HAD ALL MY FRIENDS - THE ONLY ONES WHO UNDERSTOOD ME - DIE IN FRONT OF ME!" His left eye was now practically generating a waterfall, judging from how many tears were flowing out of its tear duct.
"...all just to keep everyone in the family safe."
"And, one more thing... I still don't have my parent's approval on anything I've done. You know what they wanted me to be? A lawyer. You know what I've been? Everything but."
"You can justify learning, but you can never justify poor decisions; you'd be the only one who could validate for me for mom and dad... but if you can't appreciate the sacrifices I gave: my home, my welfare, and - most of all - my best friend, to ensure that the family could stay intact, I guess there was a reason mom and dad kept you in the dark: you'd never have come to accept that fact."
He took his helmet off the ground and put it on as he saw Mel walk away. "You don't need to forgive me... enjoy your life. I'll tell mom and dad you came by." With that, he turned and looked up at the building that was the Academy, now doubting that everything he did in his life - excel in academia, fight a war, invent medical breakthroughs - seemed to be worth having his family splinter.
As he looked up, his right eye gave way to his sorrow, both tear ducts now beginning to swell; he looked down, at the tags of his friends, now wondering if his family was worth his best friends...
Mel walked away crying, she didn't expect him to follow her, she didn't want him to follow her. She sat down on a bench and just cried, she didn't care about who saw her. She regretted coming to Piltover, she just wanted to sink down into the ground and disappear. She stood up from the bench and kicked down a trashcan that stood a few feet away from her, she felt something go wrong in her foot. She decided to walk down to the docks and take the next boat back to Zaun, she couldn't walk as fast as she wanted to. She had broken some a few bones in her foot when she kicked the trashcan, so instead she kept limping towards the docks, thinking she'll go to a doctor or something in Zaun.

Jonathan kept looking up at the academy, lost in his own thoughts, when a passerby who saw the earlier altercation tapped him on the shoulder and informed him that she had seemingly hurt herself and was limping.
His mind cleared, now realizing what to do; he took off towards the docks, and came around to see Mel limping on a leg; it was evident to him that she'd broken a foot.
"Oi - sis!" He called out; he ran up and stopped her. "Here: lemme treat you before you do anything," Jon said, taking out his medkit and beginning to treat the broken foot, his mind seemingly clear of the original argument (As evident, when it came to treating an injured, all previous grievances were put aside in the mind of a medic.)

Looked around when she heard someone shouting, she saw Jon coming towards her, she turned around and kept limping towards the docks, her tears still coming down her cheeks as he stopped her. "Just... leave me alone! I want to get back to Adal, at least she's nice to me..."
