July 4th, 23 CLE
The ocean that separated Ionia from the rest of the world seemed to glow a magnificent golden color. A color that was unique to Ionian oceans that was not duplicated anywhere else. The tide gently rose and waned from the sandy beaches. Almost like a caressing hand between lovers. However, these sandy beaches were soon makred by a lucky champion's footsteps. Twisted Fate walked across the bench on his way to a rendezvous with a very close friend. Only three days ago, it seemed as though, their relationship had hit its final down. However, Destiny had other plans as a day ago he received an origami crane from that friend. It appeared as though Mai had enough with Zed at the moment, and wanted to go on an adventure to ease her frustrated mind.
Twisted Fate on the other hand thought something had happened to Mai, and quickly made his way to where they were supposed to meet. Perhaps, Destiny had something planned that Twisted Fate hadn't foreseen. For now it mattered not, all that mattered was that he get to their rendezvous point and see if his close friend was okay.
The Cardmaster saw the airship parked, waiting for him where they were supposed to meet. Thus when he got to the ladder he began his climb up, and he let out a shout as he did so, "Mai! Ah'm comin' up. Hope Ah' didn't keep ya' waitin' too long!" Twisted Fate was unsure how long she had been waiting, but it was always rude to keep a lady of any stature waiting. Once to the top he would look around trying to locate where Mai was. He assumed that she was either below deck or hiding and waiting to sneak up on The Cardmaster.
She could be doing either. Sky was always up to something. Whether it be putting pepper dust in the briefs of the boys at the Shadow Order trying to threaten her life, or putting hair remover in their shampoo bottles, or stealing valuables and planting them in others drawers to stir up trouble.
She was such a trouble maker. Nothing was too extreme for her these days.
As the Cardmaster arrived on deck, there would be no visible sign of her. But a little paper origami would flutter to him, flying about him before leading him below deck. As he'd arrive, he'd find Sky standing there in just a tank top, pants and her usual boots. The cheongsam slung over her shoulder with the red, worn out sash tied about her waste as always. She'd look frustratedly at Fate and huffed some as she dropped the cheongsam across one of the cushions on the floor, and walked steadily towards him before quickly wrapping her arms around him tightly. He could tell even in just a couple of days, she had a dozen new scars on her body and both recent, and aged bruises on her arms, across her cheek, and various other places on her chest, back and shoulders.
A long sigh left her, "Let just.. go somewhere." She muttered, burying her face against his chest with a frustrated grumble.

Twisted Fate followed the origami to wherever it would lead, as it turns out his guess wasn't far off as Mai was below deck. Twisted Fate smiled when he saw her, though his heart ached a bit at the sight of her beauty, but as she got closer he noticed a new bruises and cuts. Her beauty was very scared, but that only added to her beauty and made her far more interesting. He knew Mai was fragile, but at the same time she could be quite tough too. His main concern was addressed, she was safe...and that mattered a lot to The Cardmaster. His he wrapped his arms around her and his heart ached again, but he pushed aside the feelings and examined the bruises and scars. It appears that Zed was still using her as a beating bag apparently, as the scars told him all he needed to know. The champion still wished that he could get her out of Zed's clutches, but there was no way he could keep her safe forever. She wasn't that lucky like him...in fact she seemed to get the short end of the stick.
When she said that she just wanted to go somewhere else, Twisted Fate tried to think of places they could go, "Alright, well where do ya' want ta' go? Bilgewater, Demacia, Zaun?" Then one seemed to stick out to him, it would be a nice change of pace from all the other city-states, "Why not Bandle City, Ah' reckon' the yordles are kind folks, n' they wouldn't mind if we took a walk through their city."
Twisted Fate would wait for her to reply, but while he waited his mind drifted off elsewhere. He wondered if maybe he could get over some of these feelings over this trip. Who knows what Destiny has planned, and this might be a way that Destiny is telling him that the future is bright, and Twisted Fate always enjoyed a bright future. A smile came across his face as he imagined a bright future, and maybe they could share stories with one another. It might be fun to hear the non-order stories that Mai had. Then Twisted Fate would share his own stories.
This trip might be more fun than either of them had imagined.
Her own heart burned with a pain she had only felt more intensely then now - when they decided that it was better to perhaps be friends. It pained her to know she had lost that connection with someone she loved so deeply, and would do anything to protect. Even sacrificing their relationship to keep him safe.
Around her the air grew silent as she gripped at his back, holding tightly like she might lose him if he were to let go. Her shoulders started to shake as the sensation of moisture bled through his shirt and against his skin. She was crying. She just needed to let it all out, even if it's just a brief sign of weakness. She needed to know he was still okay with being her shoulder, and being the man that would keep her from sinking into the depths of her darkness.
She had grown cold towards humanity. The very base of their existence disgusted her anymore. But it didn't matter. She was with TF. Her first lover. Her first boyfriend. The first person she had ever felt such intense feelings for.
As she felt his arms wrap around her, her grip loosened a bit feeling a sense of reassurance and safety flood over her. A small, shaky sigh followed, lifting her head as she pulled a hand free from his back to quickly wipe the tears away. Did he want to know? Should she tell him? She needed to vent, but she didn't want to spoil the moment. In truth, part of her didn't want to let go. Maybe things would be easier after this trip. Maybe she could finally move on, and not feel tormented by the past. Maybe --
Maybe Fate would bring her conscience back. Reinforce it. Help her to pull through and find herself again.
Through the fabric of the tank, he could feel the indents of where her wings had once perched upon her back. The angry looking scars visible on her upper shoulder blades, looking as if they may never truly disappear. A sign of the dominance Zed held over her. A sign she had been forced to submit to him, and become a fully integrated member of the Order.
But then why was she here? Why did he allow her to leave?
Sky lifted those slightly reddened violet eyes to TF, and smiled - a forced one, but beneath it, there was in fact a deep sense of gratitude for him being here. Having come when she had called for him. Her hand lifted for old times sake, and softly drew his hat free to place it upon her own head, before her hands lifted to rest upon his cheeks. He would notice she has become more built, and more agile, but she also seemed a bit thinner as well. As if she wasn't already pretty thin to begin with. Whatever training she was doing was certainly making a difference.
"Bandle City?" She repeated, "I've never been there." A glint of mischief touched her eyes, seeming to fade the red from crying. She was pushing it down. Suppressing it so that this trip wouldn't be one of sadness, or worry but a real 'vacation' where the two could renew the fun they had back in the old days. They were amazing partners in crime. Out of habit, she started to tug his head down a bit before pausing, releasing her hands from his cheeks to settle them on his upper arms. A small sigh leaving her soft lips, averting her gaze a bit to avoid making him uncomfortable.
It was hard not to want to kiss him. Difficult to resist the urge to feel his lips against her own - even for a brief moment. She licked her lips a bit, and took a half a step back, trailing her hands down his arms until she would hold his hands. One in each of her own. "Is there anything worth hittin' Bandle for? I mean Yordles.. Not really the big money type I figured we'd be going for."

Twisted Fate rose a hand and began to rub the back of Mai's head once he felt moisture begin to soak his shirt. It became clear to him that she was undoubtedly upset about everything, The Order, Zed, and how she was beaten a bruised. Every. Single. Day. Twisted Fate spoke in a soft voice to help calm her down a bit, and let her know that he was here for her.
"There, there, cheri, Ah'm right here n' Ah' ain't ever gonna be far away. Ah'm always just a crane away, contact me n' Ah'll be there as soon as Ah' can." That was one of the advantages of being able to teleport, he could be anywhere that he was before. He decided and there were no catches or strings attached to it. Sadly, the same could not be said for Mai, who always seemed to have the worst luck when it came to getting out of a cage.
The Cardmaster's hands grazed over the indents where her wings once lay, and the scars on her upper shoulders. These were wounds that would never heal...wounds that would scar her for the rest of her life. A reminder that Zed controlled her, but something struck The Cardmaster. Why would Zed let one of his 'prized' students leave so quickly after asserting his dominance over her. Was she acting as a member of the order, and sent to gather intelligence on other locations? Then why would she bring a big star like himself? Granted, Twisted Fate had connections, but he also had a lot of enemies that could slow down her progress.
To put it simply, if this was an intelligence gathering mission...it wasn't adding up. However, he would ask about it later...right now they were having a moment. It was best not to ruin it as of right now.
The Cardmaster smiled as she removed his hat, and noticed that her arms were much more muscular. It was interesting, however she looked and felt much thinner. He looked down at her, "Ah' sure hope ya' haven't been skippin' meals, cheri, but Ah' must say...ya' have been gettin' much stronger or so it seems at least." She wasn't the only one who had learned a new trick or two recently. Twisted Fate noticed the glint of mischief in her eyes and a broad smile appeared on his own face, but when she looked away..he would direct her eyes back to his own golden eyes. Little did she know was that Twisted Fate was having the same thoughts as she was at that moment.
"Yes, Bandle City, Ah've only been there a couple of times mah'self, but Ah' think ya' might like the Yordles. They don't often have a human among them, but they tend ta' be friendly folk as long as ya' don't make too much of a mess in their town...course' we ain't gonna get caught that easily, ain't that right Cheri?" Twisted Fate said with a cocky smile, and then he moved to answer her other question.
"Adventure, ain't all about the pot of gold, though that certainly helps, it's about the experiences, the laughs, n' the journey too." There was the briefest pause, "Yordles pockets don't always match their size, cheri. After all, Ah' know champions are fairly well paid too ya' know. Ah' know we'll think of somethin' sooner or later." Twisted Fate leaned forward and kissed both of her hands, "Though Ah' must say, yer' gonna have ta' get used ta' leanin' over n' bein' quick. As yordles are a bit harder ta' pickpocket than yer' average human. Not ta' mention, it'll be difficult ta' say the least"
Twisted Fate stood back to his full height before finishing his thought, "It might even be a challenge fer' once...we may have to be a bit creative ta' earn our keep in Bandle City. Perhaps distractions and illusions, will be our key ta' the pot of gold at the ends of this adventure, only Destiny knows. But we will soon find out if that is true or not."
Every little sound he made. Every touch. Every whisper. The very presence he offered her was unimaginably soothing. Sky was at an utter disadvantage around the gypsy. Her heart pounded as she felt his arms around her, and the sound of his voice. Could she possibly ask for more?
Perhaps she could.
Perhaps she might.
A flash of the past stirred within her mind. When first they met back in Piltover, where he'd found her running from several people and opted to help her escape. Was it fate? Surely destiny did in fact have a plan. She hadn't imagined falling for him, but here and now she fully understood just how much she truly loved the man. A soft, shuddered breath escapes her. Just a crane away She could remember all the nights she left the Temple to go see him. How she embraced every second as if it might be her last knowing the dangers that lurked around every corner. A tiny frown touched her lips.
That didn't matter now, did it?
Feeling him touch her scars, she couldn't help but tremble a little. Whether she remembered what happened or not, it didn't matter. Her body did, and it conjured up unpleasant feelings within the depths of her gut. It didn't feel right, but at the same time the fact TF didn't shun her for having such disgusting looking scars renewed her comfort with him all the more. It reassured her of any fears she might have.
Did he still love her?
Sky perked her brow slightly at the question about her skipping meals, perhaps a little surprised that he'd notice she'd grown thinner. Of course he would probably be one of the only men to really take notice. She didn't exactly get this close with anyone else, "Pfft." She responded with a hint of humor, "I eat just fine! Lots of sake, and... some food in there somewhere." She joked.
Their hands held together, and a little smile danced playfully across her lips, drawing on a moment of silence broken only by the slight hum from the ship's engines. Another glint of mischief growing within her eyes, "Pick pocketing yordles." She laughed, feeling her cheeks turn a soft hue of red when he kissed her hands. Always a chamer she mused to herself. "Naw, gold is just on the top of my brain. Gotta pay for repairs somehow." She said, nodding about to the ship. Of course she loved the adventure part! Especially with Fate. She'd smirk a bit playfully, stepping back to tug him along with her back towards the cushions on the floor. "Want a drink? Or food? And we got any big plans for Bandle then? Maybe I could make something 'special' to sell off to an unsuspecting moron." Snickering a bit.
Sky encouraged him to sit, seating herself in front of him, "Fate.." She said, the humor lost to be replaced with a more serious expression, "I left the Order. It-" Taking a moment to sigh, "It just wasn't for me. I wanted so much for it to be.. I wanted to fit in, but.. I just.." Grumbling, "..meh.. It kinda pisses me off I can't seem to master Shadow manipulation.. I mean I sorta can, but.. not without drinking a bunch.. Which I suppose can't be too good, eh?" A small chuckle follows, leaning in a bit closer to him. Her hands reaching up to touch his cheeks, "But it also means I'm free to do whatever I want again.."
Anything we want.
"So let's make this trip really count." As she spoke, the crane origami would flutter over and land on her shoulder, bobbing its little head towards TF as if it were a little excited he were there. It could just be Sky's enthusiasm showing through her magic creations, but who knows! The paper crane at least appeared to have some level of intelligence.
A serenade of passion flooded through Sky's heart as she locked her violet orbs with his golden hues, feeling her mind sink deep into an oblivion that grew ever more distant from the world around them. She could feel her heart racing slightly as her hands cupped his cheeks, holding him so close, yet so far from her. Lips slightly parted, her warm breath gently cast across his lips with an ever growing yearning to just..
"..damnit, Fate.." Sky managed to mutter as she leaned in ever so slightly closer, brushing her lips against his with the lightest of touches, "..just.." A breath. A beat. Reality vanished.

While Mai had her doubts about whether or not Twisted Fate still loved, The Cardmaster had no such doubts. After all she broke up in an attempt to protect him, thus there was no doubt in his heart that she loved him. This love was requited with equal if not greater passion. However, she was still part of the Order and therefore he knew that they couldn't be an item. But maybe....Destiny would release her from the bonds that held her down.
Little did The Cardmaster know, Destiny already did release Mai from those bonds, and he was about to get a reality check her in the next few moments. A reality check that may make him as happy or happier than knowing that she was safe and sound.
When she replied that she was eating just fine...he only smiled. Yep, the same old Mai that he knew before, "Mai, Ah' fear ya' have an addiction ta' sake, though Ah' reckon' Ah' ain't one ta' talk either. Ya' could say the same thing about me n' poker or gamblin' in general."Not even Zed could kick her love for sake, he could only assume that it was a second place in things that she loved in this world. After all, he was in first place wasn't he? Where else would he be?
....Great now he was starting to sound like Draven.
"Repairs? Yer' ship looks mighty fine ta' me, what could be wrong with it?" Twisted Fate inquired as he let her lead him to the cushions on the floor in front of the table. When she offered food or a drink, he shook his head a bit, "Not right now, cheri, Ah' like ta' have a focused mind when we plot our scams. After all, Ah' gotta be focused in order ta' make sure our con goes off without a hitch." Twisted Fate explained before lightly stroking his beard a bit. "Ah' might actually, have an idea that would require yer' special talents, perhaps a replica of some sort....give me a couple more minutes or so n' Ah'll have a pretty good plan laid out."
Twisted Fate noticed the look on her face get deadly serious...this concerned him greatly, and his smile faded. Was she in trouble? What was Zed forcing her to do now? These thoughts entered and left Twisted Fate's head as fast as they came. However, then Mai said something he didn't expect.
'I left the Order'.
Twisted Fate's ears stopped as that phrase echoed throughout his mind. The whirlwind of thoughts died down, and was replaced by this thought. His smile returned broader and brighter than what it was before, "Yer' not pullin' mah leg....Ah' can read it on yer' face. No strings attached?" His voice got more excited, and turned in a loud holler. "We need ta' celebrate! Ah' reckon' Ah'll have a drink after all! N' yer' damn right we'll make this trip count!"
Twisted Fate calmed down a bit at the touch of her soft hand, and his golden eyes met her amethyst ones. Gold and amethyst perhaps some of the most precious minerals. His heart hammered against his chest. The unresolved feelings began to melt away..did she want this as much as him? Were their hearts in yearning for another, and then said it.
'Kiss me'
"Yer' wish is mah command, cheri."With that said he pulled her in closer...giving their hearts the medicine they had both been desiring. Perhaps now their doubts and such would fade away, and their questions would become answered. The broken hearts sewed back together with the needle and thread known as 'love'.
"An addiction." Laughed the Sky Pirate, dismissing it playfully as if it were only a joke. She really did have an addiction though. Sake was a bane to her, but it also was something of a blessing as it unlocked her potential with certain skills. Things that had inspired Zed to gift her with the clawed gauntlet, which she had set atop the short table just to the side of the pair. It was one of the few things she was proud of owning, and much like the ship, would probably not do well if she lost it.
Atop that list of important things sat the man in front of her. A heavy heart beat unleashed itself repeatedly within the confines of her chest, feeling as if she might lose herself too greatly to the gypsy. Her mind swirled as thoughts raced endlessly, thinking back on all the wonderful things they'd done. She couldn't think of anything bad between them. Everything -
Was perfect
What had happened? Why had she ended things? It didn't matter the moment she felt his lips embrace her own. Her hands helplessly rested against his cheeks as she scooted in closer, sliding one of her arms around his shoulder. Any small break in the kiss would find a smile, which never seemed to quite fade as she held him close enjoying the taste of his lips, and the gentle caress of his arms. His warm form against her own, leaving her in complete safety knowing she could truly be with him again.
Is this what he wanted? To be with her again?
Nothing could possibly stop them now. No barriers. No heartbreaks. Just a feeling of complete reassurance and comfort. She couldn't break the kiss for more then a split second, breathing in his scent as she deepened the passion between them. Her lips parting, exhaling, loving every second of the intensifying embrace.
She pushed his jacket off slowly, not caring where the embrace may go as long as she could be near him again. Biting his lower lip gently; playfully. But they did have a journey to plot for, and a con to prepare. A hesitant pause caused the Sky Pirate to loosen her grip, a quiet laugh, tugging him in for another deep kiss, but eventually she would have to stop as much as she didn't want to.
A whole trip ahead.. There was plenty of time..
Sky's lips brushed his once more, drawing back only slightly to gaze upon his golden orbs again. She could stare into them endlessly, and be content. "My.. special talents?" A grin replaced the small smile with her lips lingering ever so near to his as if she couldn't draw herself away for too long.
"No strings attached." She finally said, "We can do whatever we want now, and nobody can bother us." A playful smirk followed the statement as her fingers trailed along his lips, caressing them before slipping away to rest against his cheek again, "I'm free." She was a little sad to leave the Order, but she was happy to be with Fate. If she had to make a decision, this was most certainly the right one.
The Ionian leaned in again with her eyes gazing into his, brushing her lips against his temptingly. A clear offering to keep going if he wished to. She had no objections to whatever he might enjoy doing with her. Plotting, playing, or.. other less public things. It was difficult to resist the temptation to push things further, leaving the decision to him. Either way, she was perfectly content.

The moment their lips touched, Twisted Fate's mind filled with all the memories they had together. Their cons, heists, nights-out, dates, drinking contests, and of course card games (which he held nothing back). His heart hammered against his rib cage as their lips did not separate for many moments. The Cardmaster swore that at the rate his heart was going it would either explode or break one of his ribs. Whichever came first at this rate. Fortunately, there was a small break before either result could occur, and he noticed the smallest smile on her face. However, that small smile said a lot about how Mai was feeling right about now.
The gypsy would return her smile, and would welcome her closeness. It was a feeling that he had missed...even for a brief time. If such gestures did not answer her question...only Destiny knows what would. The taste of her lips was a familiar, but a welcome sensation nonetheless. After all he would be lying if he said that he didn't want to be reminded of that taste.
...of course he could get away with it with his poker face....but that would end with Mai being mad at him. The prank would not be worth it....he would be happier just to enjoy the moment.
The gambler allowed Mai to remove his jacket...just one less barrier between the two and pulled her in tighter. However, she suddenly broke it off. He saw her bite her lip, which he knew was a sign of her thinking about something, but then she just laughed before kissing him deeply once more. The Cardmaster was unsure of what thought suddenly struck her and was a little disappointed when she withdrew her lips. Maybe she realized that they still had much work to do before they could begin their trip.
Then she withdrew once more ,and her amethyst eyes stared into his golden ones. She asked about her special talents, which Twisted Fate quickly replied to, "Yer' magical origami, yer' acrobatics, and..." He would drift off briefly as her lips hovered over his, but never quite touched them, "Yer' skill at seduction..without magic, Ah' might add."
"Freedom...how does freedom taste?....Not includin' mah lips cause we both know the answer ta' that question." Twisted Fate replied offering her a smile...it was good that she was finally let out of her cage and free from Zed. If anyone deserved...she would...after the hell that Zed put her through physically and mentally.
The Cardmaster took note of her suggestion, and they would share one last deep and passionate kiss before he gently removed her from him. He smiled at her, "As much as Ah' would like ta' continue..we have a few plans ta' make n' perhaps a few other activities ta' occupy our time fer' now. After all the magician always saves the best act fer' last." Twisted Fate explained, for now they had to plan this adventure and work out all the details....or they could play a few games.
"Ah' reckon' we head fer' Bilgewater first, so we can pick up supplies n' by then we ought ta' have a pretty good plan worked out. What do ya' think about that?" The conman asked her, if she had any questions or feedback...now would be the time.

If only this moment could have lasted an eternity. Runeterra was nothing more then an annoying speck in the sensation of nirvana Sky finally had felt. Freedom at hand. Twisted Fate beside her. Her fingers trailing down his arms, and slowly moving to caress his hands within her own. The scent of morning filtered into the ship where the two sat, bringing in that morning aroma with an inviting air.
"I'll set the coordinates." She said, reluctantly drawing to a stand with the red sash dangling from the back left side of her pants like an off-centered tail. She'd lean down once more to quickly give him a peck on the lips, knowing now that they were truly together again.
How could she have been so blind? She had given up someone she loved - but why? It didn't really make any sense to her, and as she tried to think back on it she'd wince, reaching her hand up as a sudden headache assaulted her. Muttering in Ionian, she'd make her way towards the front of the ship intending to set the destination into the auto-pilot so the two could plot more freely.
"Say, Fate." She'd call back as her fingers hovered over controls of the ship, tugging the smaller wheel out as they started to elevate to a more acceptable flying height, "How's about you fix up some tea for the trip while I situate the ship and get her sailing in the right direction?"
There were a few clicks as the engines burst to life, sending heavy vibrations through the ship. As it ascended towards the clear morning sky, the roar grew a bit louder, then quieted down. The bursts of steam that drove the engines to work, would become more even and predictable as the engines were run longer.
Sky poked her head from the control room to see what Fate might be up to. She could feel her heart race a bit as she saw him, pausing to lean back along the inner doorframe with a smirk settled upon her lips. She was totally at peace, which was something she had been needing for a while even if she didn't realize it.
"If I'm making something with my magic, I need at least a week to get it situated. Maybe a bit more than that depending on how complicated it is. Considering trying my hand at making an origami ship in case this one breaks, but not sure I'm really capable of it." Chuckling some, "Guess I'll find out one day."
Freedom? Sky pushed off the frame and walked back towards him wherever he might be, wrapping her arms around him from behind. If he's standing, her head would rest against his back. However if he's still seated, she would press her cheek to his and smile, "... if our heists were a flavor, it'd taste like the best one we ever pulled off." She knew that was corny, but whatever. It was still funny.
"I 'reckon' we'll pick up a few crates of whiskey in Bilgewater to hold you over for a while. Thinking a few rounds of strip poker and booze will make a night on the town all the more entertaining."
It dawned on her what else he'd mentioned for her 'talents' feeling her cheeks turn a bit red, "I-I don't seduce people! I trick them and run away with their money."

As the scent of morning air filtered through the vents, Twisted Fate could have sworn that he heard the slightest rustle of trees far in the distance. This moment, like the trees, was a moment of peace and harmony. However, as Mai got off him that moment was temporarily ended as Mai got up and said that she was going to set up the coordinates. With last kiss she would wander off with a red sash trailing behind her. Twisted Fate on the other hand leaned up , and began to picture what their adventure in Bandle City would accomplish. A few ideas of what Mai would make came to mind when she asked him to prepare some tea.
"Ah'll get right on it." He replied as he stood up, and prepared the tea. He placed the ingredients into the cups that they were going to use before boiling the ingredients in water. It would take a few minutes before the tea was ready. The ship lurched slightly as the engines awoke from their lifeless slumber. It was not the roar like that of a great beast's roar...it was like a loud gentle purr.
Twisted Fate turned to Mai when she reentered the room and asked what she was making, and depending on how complex it was the more time she would need. It only made sense, but first Twisted Fate would need some paper. The Cardmaster looked around for a moment before looking back to Mai.
"Where are some sheets of paper that Ah' can use? Ah'm assumin' ya' have some, but Ah'm afraid that Ah' don't know where ya' would keep them. After all it would be easier if Ah' showed ya' what Ah' was thinking." Once the paper and a writing tool of some sort were in his hands he would begin to draw out what he had planned. It would look like a magical staff of some sort, but once he finished one he would get started on another. Eventually, he would have created three versions of the same artifact .
"Ah'm thinkin' either a staff or an orb of some sort, but it has ta' be evil lookin'. After all our primary target is gonna be Viegar, since he seems ta' be a bit gullible. We'll want somethin' that will fit his tastes. Therefore it needs, ta' be evil, magical, n' it's image needs ta' sell these points. What do ya' think of these three concepts?" Twisted Fate asked, he figured that this would be a good start to say the least. With a little exchange of feedback, and a bit more creativity they would most likely come up with an image that would prove to be quite effective.
"Ah'm glad that our heists are the best kind of flavor." Was it corny? Yes, but it was still a compliment and Twisted Fate liked being complimented on his work. It fed his slight ego a bit, but like always he would mind his manners around a lady. However, the topic changed to what they'd do in Bilgewater, and The Cardmaster chuckled. "Fair warnin' Ah' ain't gonna go easy at any card game. Just so ya' know ahead of time."
He would laugh when she turned bright red about the 'seduction' comment, and then he simply answered, "It all depends on yer' point of view, cheri."
The gentle scent of tea was a pleasant one. She took in a deep breath as the aroma filled the main cabin, before finding herself smirking lightly at him. By this point she would have made her way back to him, collecting her tea and fixing his if he hadn't yet done so.
"Paper?" She thought. What paper did she have that wasn't for her magic? Took time to 'charm' things even before she created the origami. The process was often daunting, but rewarding. As Mai collected some plain paper, she'd offer it to TF with a curious glance, "Hmmm.." She said, watching him draw up the varied ideas.
As she leaned across his shoulder, she'd lazily rest her arms about them with her head rested against his. His hat still worn atop her head, causing a small shadow to be cast over the paper. "I think this one." She said, reaching forward to pick it up, "It's not too complicated, and still looks evil. Those skulls are going to be the most challenging to create, I think. At least making them look realistic enough." Mai let out a long sigh, and smirked, "Hehe Veiger won't know what hit 'em. Poor sucker.. This'll be way too fun. If we pull this off, Fate, we're gonna just add to our bad reputation." Smirking playfully.
Mai kissed his cheek before slipping back, taking a few steps away, turning and pacing with thought. How to go about this? The complexity of appearance alone will make this a challenge for her. She'd have to make sure it was convincing. Making it 'feel' powerful would be the easy part.
After a bit of pacing, Mai paused as the ship jolted slightly beginning its course towards Bilgewater. She'd move off to a small cabinet in the wall of the livingroom, unlocking it carefully and drawing from it several colors of paper. As she turned, she'd glance briefly to Fate, "Don't touch this stuff until I finish.. Could ruin it if you do. Not saying you ruin stuff, just.. y'know.. s'pretty frail until I finish creating the origami." After the warning, she'd toss him a playful grin, "Maybe you can show me your card trick sometime, eh?" Mai added as she moved to a small table built into the wall, resting the different colored paper to one side. This would be the first time Fate would ever see her really work her magic. Something so complex would take no less then a week with very little sleep. Just in time to reach Bilgewater.
She'd forgotten about her tea as she began to carefully make the folds in the first part of the paper, working initially on the more intricate head of the staff over the more plain pole portion.
However she would pause to comment on his mention of not holding back in card games. With a snicker, she'd glance over her shoulder towards him, "S'long as I go home with the prize, I don't care." She said, clearly indicating him.

Twisted Fate would get his tea from Mai or retrieve it himself, he would blow on the tea in an attempt to cool it down before taking a drink. He did not dislike tea, but it wasn't his favorite drink either, it seemed almost a bit too noble for him. After all deep down Twisted Fate was a simple man, but then again tea was rather common among all Ionian classes, so clearly it wasn't as high class as he first thought.
He smiled when Mai put her head on his shoulder, and looked at his drawings. She was admiring his work, granted being able to draw that well was a bit of an odd skill for a man such as Twisted Fate to have, but when you are in conning business you learn to pick up new skills really quick. Once he was finished he would wait for her to pick one, within a few moments she had made her decision. However, she made a comment that it would be challenging, though they would add to their bad reputation if they pulled it off. He would laugh for a few moments before making a comment.
"Cheri, we're criminals...we strive for a bad reputation. Infamy can bring power, and power gets ya' places in this world. But if this is too challengin' we could change it ta' somethin' simpler, but Ah' always figured ya' liked a challenge or two. After all, ya' fell in love with me."
After that banter he would watch her pace around before collecting a few sheets of paper, during this time he would sway slightly as the ship awoke from it's slumber even more and set forth toward Bilgewater. At her warning he would hold his hands up, and nod his head, "Yer' wish is mah command cheri, but if want ta' learn a few card tricks just ask. Ah' ain't afraid ta' help ya' or show ya' mah sleight of hands." He would take another sip of tea as he watched her work on her project. He was a little curious her magic had a few similarities with his, and would watch carefully.
"Well, if Ah'm yer' prize, then yer're my prize. N' it's a good thing' ?Ah'm lucky cause, Ah' intend ta' walk away with you."
"Pfft." Came the response from Mai as she heard him offer to simplify it, "We want it t'be impressive, right? Ain't gonna be impressive if we keep simplifying it. Just lemme work." She said, letting a smirk form. If TF had any sense for magic, he might pick up on her's. It was certainly unique, and somewhat odd. She was capable of animating paper animals into something far more dangerous - or useful, but it took a lot of work to create new ones.
As each piece was intricately folded, she would set them aside, focusing her magic into each one with a ritualistic motion. It took her a lot of work, and would likely take her hours to complete even a minor section of the skulls that decorated the outside.
She pauses however, to his last comment, turning a light shade of red with a grin, "Such a charmer." She commented, "If I were some random girl you said that to, I'd be fallin' head over heels for ya." Turning to glance over her shoulder, Mai chuckled, "Course that sorta happened anyway."
The ship would rock and creek as it rode along the clouds towards Bilgewater, carrying the pair over the wide open sea far below the vessel. The air was calm despite some mild turbulance, and the horizon appeared to be clear all around them. It should be a relatively uneventful ride, though one can never tell.
Hours would pass, and Mai didn't seem to move an inch from where she focused. Her fingers were reddened from all the folding and adjusting, with light droplets of sweat beading across her forehead from the amount of energy it took from her to enchant the small pieces of paper. It had taken her years to put a collection together, and it would take her a couple hours minimum, and as much as a week just to recreate origami she loses. This was no easy task.
She would rather spend her time talking with TF, carrying on about good times, conning people, robbing people blind, or creating chaos wherever they might go. But big cons like this took time, and she was pretty well invested in the idea. Conning Veiger would be one for the books, for sure.

'Course' we want it ta' be impressive. The more they're starin' at the prize, the less likely they'll be lookin' fer' mistakes. Not ta' mention it adds credibility ta' our arguements n' plans." Twisted Fate said, offering an explanation, not that he needed to, but he figured it would answer any questions Mai might have had. He would watch Mai work, and while he got a sense of what she was doing, he was unsure if he could replicate it. After all he had to experimented on in order to gain his magic, and his mastery came with his own experimentation and practice. He was happy with his powers, and figured he wouldn't need any new tricks, since Destiny was always at his side.
He took another drink from his tea while he watched her work for hours and hours...only to complete the smaller parts of the skull. It surprised him a bit with how long this would take, he figured it would have been a faster process. He saw her blush a bit, and laughed, "Destiny intended it ta' happen. N' if it's meant ta' be then it's meant ta' be. There ain't no arguin' that. Though bein' the gentleman I am tends ta' help here n' there." After that small bit of conversation she seemed to focus back on her work, and Twisted Fate would finish his tea before running through multiple scenarios of how the deal would go in his mind.
However, as time passed he would finish running through most of the scenarios, and eventually began practicing a few card tricks to past the time. From flourishes to sleight of hands, Twisted Fate knew all the tricks of the trade when it came to cards, conning, and wooing women. He would look at Mai and take in her beauty while she worked. He could see a bead of sweat drip from her forehead, and he would wait a couple more minutes before commenting, "Perhaps that's enough fer' tonight, after all ya' got an entire week ta' finish up that there project of yers. Why don't we enjoy a bit of our time together?" That was what he would rather do too, after all that was the more fun thing to do. They had plenty of time to prepare for the big con. They could afford a couple hours of fun and games before getting back to work.
