A little way outside the city-state - though it still lays within territory that is in Piltover's jurisdiction - there is a small quarry. Only recently discovered, a few of the students from Piltover have come by and began examining for any potential resources that could be utilized by the City of Progress.
It is here that one of Heimerdinger's students had uncovered an interesting crystal, which has now brought back the Inventor, along with another figure who has shown interest: the Gem Knight.
The Inventor had just appeared at the edge of the quarry, in front of the road that leads down into the area where the crystal was first discovered. He looked up to the Gem Knight.
"Well, as you can see, this is the quarry where the crystal was first discovered. A few of my students who are pursuing their studies in geology have come to study here often, and they'll meet us below. Now, shall we proceed?"

(Sorry for the wait Heimy. IRL things sapping motivations.Hopefully I got around it all.) Taric looked around the quarry as he walked aside Heimerdinger. The sun shone off of his armor, making him a sparkling beacon in any distance. He looked down the road that led further in before looking at Heimer.
"Hmm I do feel a interesting presence in the gems down here. Lead on my friend, let us see what the students have to share."

Heimerdinger nodded, and began to walk down the narrow dirt path, going at a reasonable pace to allow the Gem Knight to keep up behind him.
"I apologize, the quarry is quite far down; it was only a recent discovery, and as such it has not yet received an elevator to allow people to go down into the hole."
"However, it is quite a small walk, so while we are making our way down, there are one or two questions I have for you, if you wouldn't mind me asking."

Heimerdinger could only but give a small chuckle at the Knight's comment about Demacia - after all, he himself had a few thoughts about its architecture - before nodding and asking his first question.
"Well, it's been made well known that you are not of this world. Your powers are, in a way, fascinating to those of us in this world, having never seen this type of 'Earth' magic that you perform."
"As someone who originates from another world and who is thus the sole practitioner of such magic in this place, how did you come to learn of such a craft?"

Taric stopped for a moment, considering the words of the professor. He was accustomed to people asking about various aspects of his personal life, but the subject of his magic was hardly one of them.The knight adjusted his hammer on his shoulder and continued to follow the yordle as he spoke after a moment of silence.
"My father was a well known healer back home. He used a great number of tools to do his job. From herbology to biology, he had a great assortment of tools to aid those who needed him."
There was a hint of sad pride in his voice, but just barely.
"I studied the work of my father since I was very young. I learned by watching his work and from what he taught me himself. I drained his expansive library of all the knowledge I could as I grew, but there was always one tool he used that fascinated me most, the power of gems and the magic that shines from within them."

Heimerdinger's eye twinkled a slight bit upon hearing the word 'gem;' it seemed to only increase his own curiosity.
"...the power of the Gems. Well, I profess that this form of magic is one I am still not fully understanding of how it works. What is it in the Gems that fuels your powers?"

"I am sure your familiar with how gems are created. Through time on constant pressure the various components to the planet meld together for form these precious gems and crystals. But natural elements are not the only things compressed into these precious stones, the magic of the world is melded into them as well. When I work my magic I tap into the ancient power that filled these stones so long ago."

"Right, I recall that now; forgive me for my momentary forgetfulness," Heimerdinger apologized rather quickly, a bit embarrassed at forgetting that note.
He looked back at the path they were walking, and saw they were now close to the bottom of the quarry. Several of his students were now identifiable at this distance, and the closer ones waved at him; he waved back.
"So, can you perhaps feel any energies radiating from this place yet?" The inventor inquired.

"It is not a problem Heimerdinger, I understand you have plenty on your mind as it is."
Taric nodded to the students in greeting as they passed them. When the professor asked if he could feel anything he stopped and closed his eyes for a moment. After a moment the gem knight nodded.
"Yes, I feel quite the magical presence. The ancient power sings to me. Me coming along was the right decision."

Heimerdinger nodded. "Hmm, if you can feel the energies here, can you perhaps identify the power that you feel?"
Heimerdinger paused, before turning to see one of his students approach them. "Hello, Professor Heimerdinger! Glad you could come!"
"And hello to you, Sir! ...wait. You're none other than the famous Extra-terrestrial Gem Knight, are you?" The student asked, slightly amazed as the prospect of meeting another champion face to face.

"Well, there was something we've found to be mighty strange with these crystals, now you ask - it's a bit hard to straight up explain it, but they seem to give off a lot of vibrations when something specific happens. Here, I'll take you over to where we mined out one of them." The student motioned the man and Yordle over to a table, where the Crystal was sitting, it's color just like the one seen back in the Academy's workshop.
The student got around to the other side of the table. "Fascinating..." Was all the Inventor could mutter.
"Indeed! This is a most interesting crystal. There is something special as mentioned earlier that happens with this crystal, but before I demonstrate, do you have any questions?" The student asked, waiting patiently.

"Alright, then watch and observe."
Shortly, the student took a piece of hextech cable - normally used to connect a drill to the generator - and drew it closer to the crystal. A strange glow began to emanate from the crystal. As the cable came closer, the crystal began to give the smallest of vibrations, which became more noticeable; the glow intensified as well.
When the student stopped the cable just short of touching the crystal, the crystal was close to reaching a blinding level of intensity with its glow and the vibrations were moving other things on the table; a few other tools were shaken off, but did not break. The student left the cable right next to the crystal for a few moments, then withdrew it; almost instantly the crystal's glow disappeared and the vibrations stopped.
"Well, there you have it; it's almost like the crystal's an unstable source or something. Whaddya think?" The student asked. Heimerdinger motioned to Taric, letting him have the chance to ask first.
