The Demacian training grounds. Where men and women grabbed their training gear and weapons to sharpen their skills and strengthen their bodies. It is hear that even the once smallest of trainees, became soldiers, and maybe even champions. Scouts, swordsmen, archers, horsemen, you name it. Each being taught the skills they needed to fight.
Johen walked through the halls, passing by other soldiers, trainees, and the officers that helped trained them. Some eyes glanced over to see him, but he didn't take it to heart really. Sure, he wasn't as muscular as the others, and he didn't carry a big sword, a fancy crossbow, a giant hammer, or a tiny little wand that shot out beams of light that would scorch your flesh off, but he was okay with what he had. It was his family's spear, shining in the sunlight that peered through windows and training grounds he walked by.
He finally got to his destination, a lone yard used for training. There was little grass in the area, as it was all stomped and trampled on during running, fighting, and all sorts of other drills. Who he was he expecting? Believe it or not, it was the great and might Prince Jarvan IV he was waiting on. He had agreed to training the young soldier, as to his father's request, and now all had to do was sit and wait.

The training grounds were alive with their usual activity. The younger recruits trained in one section, under the instruction of their Sergeants. The archery ranges were close by, out beside the cavalry training field, but this was Jarvan's favorite place. The foot combat training facility and arena. It was here that he had been so proud to be first allowed to train, and it was Xin Zhao that had been his student in the spear. Perhaps one day Xin Zhao would teach his son to fight, but no, Xin Zhao would be an old man. Perhaps he would do it himself.
When Dawnspear called on him, Jarvan IV had been surprised. Happy, but surprised. It was a sobering thought, that this man close to his own age and an old friend, had a son of his own, and just about grown. How had he missed this? As he entered the grounds on that brisk morning in his training attire, he saw the boy. No, a young man he was, and about to be a soldier. He then walked up to the wrong young man and said, "Johen Dawnspear?"

John had begun to grow bored. How long would it be until he would arrive? Looking left and right, as if handling illegal drugs, he began to pull out... A pocket sized novel. It didn't seem bad, but it sure did to his father. "You're always have your nose in those books," he said. "Get some meat on those bones," he said. Well he got what he wanted, and he wasn't enjoying it one bit.
Then there he was, like a radiant shining beacon of power, justice, and hope to these people, and even more with the recent events of the Shadow Isles. Soldiers lined up into position, and Johen did the same thing. Jarvan approached the soldier, the trainee shaking at his presence. "Your Majesty, it is not I, but the Johen noble!" Oh yes, everyone knew. Who wouldn't? It was the big gossip of the camp. All the soldiers stepped back, leaving the skinny soldier with his family spear out in the open.
He got onto one knee, spear by his side as he looked up at the man. So similar but so different. "Your majesty... It's an honor to see you." He said. Head bowed for His Royal Highness.

Surprised, he turned to see the young man kneel before him. With a raised brow he dismissed the rest of the trainees with a simple wave of his hand. Jarvan IV held his spear like a walking stick and looked down at his student. Not what he expected. The boys thin frame had thrown him off, but there was the family spear. There could be no doubt.
"Johen Dawnspear the Second, do me the honor of standing."as Johen stood Jarvan IV inspected him, his body, and his weapon. He had some catching up to gain the muscle and likely the experience of the other boys. "Your father and I go way back. He has probably never spoken of it, but he once saved my life. I could not pass up the pleasure of training his son." He looked a the boys face and said "You look more like your mother. I guess you lucked out eh? Hahaha. Come. We will talk."
Jarvan IV walked towards the training area, grabbing a simple spear from the weapon rack as he went. He motioned for Johen to follow him as he walked out into the area. He shoved his great lance into the dirt was he went, in favor of the simple spear. "How much experience do you have with a spear?"

Johen quickly stood up, standing as straight and as tall as he could. He kept his chin high for the prince, as he began his inspection of him. Indeed, he was skinny in terms of the other soldiers who had dispersed to go about the training fields. He knew Jarvan was already pointing out his physical disadvantages, and he couldn't help but shake a bit in anxiety. He slowly relaxed as the towering man talked about his father, and he smiled a bit at the remarks of his mother. "Yes, I get that a lot, but it is a grand honor to even have been taken into consideration." He replied.
He walked along with the prince, doing his best to walk along with his much larger steps. He looked at his spear, the spear that anyone would know in an instant, stick into the earth while it shined in the glory of the sun. His eyes glanced at the normal he was picking up, a handicap for the MUCH less experienced Johen. "I have enough experience to pass the basic training. I stayed here for a large duration for the Shadow Isles invasion, helping to keep guard of the trainees. Didn't get much added training after that."

Jarvan felt the familiar weight of the training spear, so light in contrast. "Good. Then we will cover the basics. The spear is an excellent weapon. It lends leverage, speed, and reach to the user. It can be deadly against man or beast, giving you then first strike against many opponents." As he spoke, Jarvan went through the simple offensive spear forms, lunging and slicing the air almost absentmindedly. "It is a simple weapon to use, but difficult to master. The spear user must become one with his weapon to overcome its limitations" He demonstrated the simple defensive forms, spinning and stepping lightly as though blocking a dozen unseen attacks. "You have seen these forms before."
Jarvan stood opposite Johen in the dirt arena that was the sparring ground. "There are simple moves and complex moves, basic skills, and hidden skills. Today we will start at the beginning. Raise your weapon to me and show me the first attack stance."
This was the forward facing stance taught to all cadets, the wide footed poise of Xin Zhao. As example, Jarvan took the stance himself, spear pointed at Johen, feet apart.
