The wiki explains more, this game has like a crapload of roles but moving on.
The basis is you have 3 groups. The town, mafia and a third party. The whole goal depends on who you are sided with but to put it simply. The mafia has to kill townies, which is done every night and certain roles can do actions at night as well, like I think the detective can choose a person to follow one night for instance or the third party serial killer can choose someone to kill. At day time the whole town gathers together and tries to picks a person to lynch.
