The quarters of the artificer-summoner Nicholas Ravencroft were larger than usual; a bungalow-type apartment that permitted the presence of a private workshop below, his actual dwelling a humble and small area above the clutter of new work the Institute had assigned him.
For the scope of work he did, the workshop was a bit small, and cozy. Four construct bays dominated the four corners of the large square ground area, with a central control station in the middle. At the entrance to the apartment was a reception desk with a few small figurines for sale- even summoners needed some side-line business to make a few extra valors. The entire apartment had otherwise plain white walls with grooves, and was suffused in a clinical white light.
Previously, few people had a reason to visit Nicholas- the rather unsocial summoner was never known for his ability to speak with people. However, now was a bit different- junior artificers and summoners often passed by for tips into their work, to observe his projects or perhaps buy a custom-shaped rechargeable ward.

A Summoner's goal on the Fields of Justice is to win. It didn't really matter to them how, just that they should. Loss was acceptable, but Winning was preferable. It should only be natural that items and aids be invented for that very reason.
Or at least, that's what Naiyu just found out. Fumbling with the front of her Summoner's Robes, she made her way down the large halls and towards a certain room. She'd just found out - through unintentional eavesdropping from her presence being so nonexistent - that runes were a great help on the Fields of Justice, especially when going against tricky Champions that stealth or try to attack from behind. In that same vein, she heard of a Summoner whom could make customized ones; Nicholas Ravencroft.
Naiyu's small hands pressed against the door to said Summoner's chambers, contemplating for a while. She couldn't even talk properly to normal people, and yet here she was, about to bolt into someone else's room and begin talking to them by herself about buying something from them.
...Progress?
Deciding it best to simply knock on the room door, her knuckle rasped a few times against it as she did so. "...H...Hello?...E-Excuse me...is anyone...there?..."

Naiyu would hear alot of... unusual movement sounds from outside the workshop.
"Who's there?" A purple caster minion of all things opened the service door to the workshop, the larger golem door reserved for large visitors. The caster minion welcomed Naiyu and ushered her in.
"He.looo. Frieend." The caster minion said, shaking Naiyu's hand. Its voice was high pitched and monotone, and yet had the slightest inflection of friendliness.
"Target acquired." Suddenly, another purple caster minion came up to within four paces of Naiyu and waved its unpowered wand at her but no energy bolt emerged. Anyone would recognize it, seeing as the wand didn't have the energy crystal attached. Still, the caster minion waved and waved, at what seemed to be a much higher attack speed of 1.0, flailing about aimlessly at Naiyu.
"Terminating." It said, voice similar to the friendly minion's, but with a hint of... aggression?
"No! stop shooting. It's me." The other caster minion stood in front of Naiyu in the first minion's way, and the two were now engaged in a wand waving contest with each other.
The scene was quickly noticed though; at the far wall of the small workshop, two figures in purple robes were walking around a large iron golem on a raised catwalk, some pieces of the golem still scattered about its foot. One of them, male, spoke aloud.
"56! 57! Shut down."
"Function. Error." 56, the aggressive one, said, before nodding off in place, arms drooping, wand still in hand.
"Sleep mode activated." 57, the friendly one, also nodded off in place.
Nicholas slid down the ladder and huffed as he landed, removing his artificer goggles and leaving the large and thankfully inert stone golem. His assistant, a blonde woman in a plain purple robe, continued performing adjustments with an arcane matrix sphere.
"I'm terribly sorry about that, um... you see I'm trying to make the minions...smarter. Not sure if talking makes them smarter. I..I... I know what I'm doing, don't worry about it. I think. Anyway! I'm... I'm Nicholas... s..silver ranked... just got promoted... about time... I'm an artificer for the Institute... I don't get out much, so I don't know alot of people here. Then again its a big place... and everyone wears those robes and hoods... Oh, I must prattling. You are?" The man wiped his hands with a towel and offered one to shake Naiyu's with.
Once she had a good look at the interior of the workshop, Naiyu would note it was suffused in plain white light, the walls grooved to give the sense of space. All around were metal storage boxes, and the golem consumed a good third of the floor. More inactive minions were still in the corner, a hanging light over their transparent cases. Yet, there was organization and neatness in it- paperwork on the shelves was sorted and filed, while tools not in use were put away.

Naiyu's eyes remained wide, her breathing a little slow as she tried to register what just happened. Did she just get...attacked? By a minion?...that talked?
"N...N-No, i-it's fine..." She mumbled out softly, looking up at the person speaking, though they continued to go, losing her halfway into the explanation. She tried her best to keep up, however. And managed to get his name - so he was the right person! That was good. After that little wonder show Naiyu was uncertain if she wanted to go into anyone else's chambers for the rest of the day...or maybe week.
"A-Ah..." Looking down she saw his outstretched hand and took it gingerly, giving it a timid shake. "I-I'm Naiyu...n-nice to meet you...N-Nicholas..." She gave her best smile, trying hard not to look silly...though probably failing, and quickly looked elsewhere, around the room. Taking in the sight, it really baffled her how roomy it looked, though it seemed no bigger than her own at first. The state of things really enforced the idea that he knew what he was doing. Which was good, because she sure as heck didn't.
"Uhm...I-I'm here to...ask about w-wards?...i-if you don't mind, of course..." Naiyu questioned, finally looking in Nicholas' direction. "I...uhm...I'd l-like to know more about them...a-and buy a few...please?..."

"Well. that's pretty odd. Everyone knows that wards are a pretty commonly used item in matches, and you can buy them with little trouble at the main Institute workshop without a problem." Nicholas explained, his stutter less prevalent once he talked about his field of expertise.
He went over to a storage box and opened it, pulling out a small white sphere with a smaller indentation where its 'eye' would be. "Since you're here, I'm assuming you want a customized ward or two?" He pressed the eye and it lit up with a soft blue light.
"These are my... mobile wards. Observers, if you will. They roll around, look around, and get around. Pretty difficult to notice too like real wards. I can change their colors, give them a few scripted lines to respond to your commands... even make them look like a small animal if you'd like." The little Observer Ward looked back and forth between Nicholas and Naiyu, making a few mechanical sounds.
And you can either use your own scrying ability, or control them with a view crystal.""

Eyeing the device in Nick's hands as he spoke, Naiyu scolded herself lightly for what he described as something 'everyone knows'. She chided herself, thinking he would think her some form of idiot by now.
Her eyes stayed on the ward, little thoughts in her head about what it could do as he described them in detail. Having sight in areas that you weren't physically in did seem like an immense help on the fields. But should she jump straight into a customized ward, after only just learning about them a short while ago?...
"U-Uhm..." she finally spoke after he finished, "...perhaps only a...s-simple modification?...m-maybe...j-just make a pretty...p-pattern?..." She mumbled out lightly, looking up a bit. "...I-I only just learned about them...I-I don't want to go too...c-crazy with it, now...e-eheheh..."

Nicholas pursed his lip left and right, wondering what to do with an even greener summoner than himself. The room was fairly quiet, with the occasional odd beep coming from the large stone golem, and then a low growl emanating from it, as well as the arms slightly moving. Zero immediately cleared the script matrix, causing the golem to once again become inert.
"Zero?" Nicholas turned around and asked.
"Error in. script. layer." A monotonous but female voice emanated from the lady in the coat.
"Let's sort the golem's script later. Do come down here and meet Naiyu. Naiyu, this is my assistant Zero." The summoner introduced the woman- who, up close, was clearly not human given how incredibly sleek her metallic body was, her face clearly having grooves running across her cheeks.
"Greetings. Bronze summoner. Naiyu. Welcome to the. Golem works. What patterns would you like." Zero extended a hand in a mechanical imitation of courtesy.
Zero then looked at the observer, touched it with a finger, then illusory patterns of a variety of designs began covering it- flowers, butterflies, leaves, kitten faces... and so on and so on. While Zero did these, Nicholas continued.
"Tell you what... why don't you take this observer, and try and run the test maze over here." The summoner pointed to a dining table that supported a small maze.

Naiyu gingerly took the mechanical lady's hand. She gave it a light and friendly shake, a sheepish smile on her face. Only taking a small moment to admire the human-like quality of her, her eyes quickly went down to the ever-shifting patterns on the ward before her.
"....t...there's so many..." She mumbled quietly, trying her best to keep track of them all. They were very interesting, though...should she make it so...obviously feminine?...then again...it was going to be her very own ward...maybe a few...cute designs wouldn't be too much of a jump in the deep, right?
Upon hearing Nicholas' suggestion, Naiyu's eyes went over to where he pointed, her head tilting ever slightly. "...A...t-test maze?..." She questioned, walking slowly over to the table. A nervous glance over her shoulder soon followed once she was there.

The test maze had a glass ceiling, so Naiyu had an overhead view of the mini-labyrinth. She could also see through the Observer's eye using the small crystal sheet that served as its control.
"Try it." He said, encouraging. Zero simply stared blinking a few times at Naiyu, waiting for her to begin.

After a few seconds more of staring at the small observer ward, then Nicholas, then back to the ward, Naiyu took a small breath.
"...here goes...?"
Slowly she pressed onto her tip toes and placed the little ward into the maze. Giving it a small pat, more out of habit with smaller things, her eyes went to the strange crystal sheet that supposedly controlled it and gave her it's vision.
"S...So I...move it around with this...?" Naiyu questioned, prodding at the controls cautiously to try looking around. "...they're so...complex...they m-must have taken you ages...!" The silver haired girl chirped, closely monitoring her small ward with a smile growing on her face.
