((Okay, so this is the complete version of my Through the eyes of an Assassin with all three parts in one thread.))
August 17th, 23CLE
Andrei sat on the edge of the roof of a fairly large old building, looking down at the city below him, how the people below him looked like small dolls wandering around. Sitting at the rooftop gave him time to think and time to collect his thoughts. The building he sat on was a fairly old hotel building that was now standing empty after the owner, an old piltovian, was found dead. People talked about how he had ended his own life after regretting coming to Zaun, Andrei on the other hand, knew differently.
The old man had been sick when he had come to Zaun and his poor immune system had been unable to fight off the bacteria in the toxic air of Zaun, that was not the cause of his death though. The cause of his death had been Andrei's hands. Someone apparently didn't like the old man and paid a fairly large sum of money for him to die. Andrei hadn't bothered to learn who it was nor why he wanted him dead, as long as it meant that he got money he was satisfied.
This happened five years ago, and yet no one had stepped up to buy the building once it was up for sale again. Most where rather scared that the building would crumble one day and leave them ruined and without any money left.
Andrei moved away from the edge for a while to move to the other side of the roof, where he looked up at the buildings that were way higher than the one he was standing on, most of them were in better shape too as they were newer and thus in better condition.
After some pacing around on the roof the assassin returned to his spot were he looked down on the citizens of Zaun. Moving around as busy as ever, some on their way to work and some back home. As he sat there on the roof he used his vision augmentation to zoom in on the street, giving him a closer look from the same distance.
He sighed as nothing special happened, nothing exciting had been going on recently, maybe it was because of the team he had joined or because he was just tired of Zaun. Once again he stepped of the ledge and walked around on the roof, this time he moved up to a brick wall that was in the middle of the roof, walking around it he saw the door that led to inside the building and down the stairs again, he had no intention on leaving the roof just yet.
Instead he walked around and looked for something on the brick wall, a group of markings he had made for every kill he had made in Zaun, the idea behind the markings had hit him one day. That one day he might have forgotten how many lives he had taken or that if he was looking for redemption he knew how tainted his soul was. But at the moment, he used it as bragging rights, he had no plans looking for redemption, nor to quit killing just yet.
He eventually found the markings, after some brief counting he stopped at the number forty-seven. "Wow, I sure have been busy." Through out his life he had taken forty-seven lives, in Zaun alone. Although he worked mostly in Zaun which meant that he only had two or three in other states, such as Noxus, Bilgewater, Piltover and now recently Demacia.
Although he still enjoyed killing, his hunger for death had been reduced quite a lot recently, he had stopped killing those who bumped into him when he was drunk and he had stopped killing those who pissed him of in general. Although depending on how pissed of he is, he might kill someone. There have been several occasions where he has been the one that wanted to back down, but the victim kept insisting that they fight. It usually ended with him going up to this roof and carving in another mark on the brick wall. The markings on the wall all represented a male kill, if he killed a woman, he'd stop eating for two days and also make a cut on his left arm.
Killing women was something he disliked, men he had no problem with as they usually could fight back if given the opportunity, women on the other hand. They could not do that. His mother had taught him to respect women, that was something that had stuck with him since the day she passed away.
He took a step back from the wall and gave it a quick glance before returning to the ledge where he once again sat and looked down on the street. Looking up at the sky he saw the sun setting, painting the normally gray sky in a deep orange color. It was getting dark and soon the criminals of Zaun would emerge from their hiding spots, surely Zac would be going out at this hour to stop them, he had seen the green blob a few times when he had been sitting on the roof. He respected him for what he did, and before he joined the military he hoped that Zac wouldn't come after him any time soon.
Through out the streets of Zaun groups of men began forming as the gangs that had hid during the day came out with intention to either rob, kill or both.
Andrei had no real intention on stopping them, he was still an assassin at heart, but he was working for the military too. He had done fewer hits now, mainly because he had raised the price on his service, mainly because of the Military.
He moved back from the ledge as he got bored and laid down on the roof, looking at the sky. Soon, he drifted of into a slumber, resting on the roof.
Night had fallen upon Zaun. The Assassin, laying on the roof of an old abandoned hotel, had fallen asleep whilst watching the sky above Zaun change from a deep orange color to a darker gray as the sun set behind the horizon. The air was getting colder as the temperature dropped to almost zero degrees, yet the Assassin didn't move an inch. The only thing that gave away his position on the roof was the two rows of light coming from his mask that covered his face.
His dark green armor blended in quite well in the darkness that surrounded the roof, without the lights, one could walk right past him and not notice him. But as the night fell upon Zaun, the criminals on the streets became more and more. If you listened closely you could hear the screams of their victims, screaming in terror as they were attacked by the criminals. Soon the screaming stopped as the criminals returned to their hideouts to check out their loot.
One group of criminals had recently decided to use the old hotel as a hideout, as no one dared to go into it. Well, except for Andrei, who was sleeping on the roof.
The group consisted of five members; one tall skinny guy who couldn't even open a jar of jam on his own, two short and relatively fat brothers who ate everything that they thought they could eat, one rather muscular fellow who was as smart as a stone and lastly a kid. The kid couldn't be more than sixteen, rather skinny as well, probably an orphan that had to go to crime to feed himself. None the less he was in the group that now moved up the stairs inside the old hotel, they were heading for the second floor when they noticed that the door was open.
The group walked in and noticed nothing different with the room. So they decided to light up the room with a gas lamp and then split the loot. But before they did that, the skinny guy who called himself the leader had to take a smoke. "I'm gonn' get me ah smoke, don't ya dare split without me!" He said and pointed on everyone in the room before proceeding up to the roof.
As he made his way out on the roof he noticed something glowing in the dark. Andrei's mask startled the skinny man, why would there be something glowing on the roof? He dropped his newly lit cigarette on the ground and hurried down the stairs, almost skipping entire floors as he retreated down to the rest of his gang.
The group looked at him as he came into the room in a hurry, breathing heavily and pointing on the roof. "S-s-someone on the roof! Everyone up now!" The rest of the bandits looked at him then back at themselves, what the hell was he rambling about? They did as they were told and followed him up through the hotel and out on the roof.
When the "leader" of the group had been rushing down the hotel stairs he had awoken Andrei from his light slumber. He was now sitting on the edge of the roof where he had been sitting a few hours earlier, this time turned towards the stairwell where the band of criminals came out from.
"I'm tellin' ya, there was something glowing out 'ere on the roof, I saw it with me own eyes!" The skinny guy kept saying as they moved up the stairs. "It was right... 'ere..." The sentence was cut from his mouth as he saw Andrei sitting on the roof, looking at them. "Looking for something?" Andrei's voice rang out from where he was sitting. The criminals stopped and looked at the silhouette of Andrei's body, the only thing glowing was his mask.
Andrei's eyes scanned the criminals in front of him, marking every single one of them with a red tint that allowed him to see them perfectly in the dark. He noticed the kid standing behind the more muscular man. "Hey, kiddo, get over here!" he commanded the kid. But the criminals that stood in the way grouped up around the kid, "Oi, he one of us now. one of the fat brothers replied. Andrei looked at him, he wondered how you could get so fat here in Zaun, unless you were wealthy it was almost impossible.
Andrei was a bit annoyed, first someone had woken him from his sleep and now a group of criminals held a kid captive? It was plenty of reasons for Andrei to kill them. "Fat ass, was I talking to you? Now, kid, get over here." he said again. The skinny man who stood next to the kid whispered something to the group, thinking that Andrei wouldn't hear him, "You Frank, you go with your brother around him then Bruce will attack him head on, I will..." Again his sentence was interrupted, "Not going to work... I give you twenty seconds to get the fuck of my roof and leave me alone, the kid stays." Andrei had pulled out his blade and his gun, fully prepared to kill the four criminals.
The skinny man looked at Andrei and laughed nervously, how could he hear them whispering? "H-hah... Looks like we are getting some n-new gear... guys." he said and pushed the two fat brothers towards Andrei, "Go! Show him what we can do!" He said and took a step back behind the brute.
The twins looked at each other then up at Andrei before running at him as fast as they could. Two loud bangs rang out, the roof was lit up by the muzzle flame from Andrei's gun and the brothers dropped dead on the roof. "Told you it wouldn't work. Next!"
Andrei approached the rest of the group or rather the duo. Making sure not to step on the two corpses in his way. The brute, muscular as he was stood there, shaking a little. Was it the cold? No, he was wearing clothes to keep him warm, it was fear. Fear for not living to see another sunrise, but if he wanted to live he shouldn't have become a criminal, right? The skinny man now stood behind the brute, and the kid was hiding on the other side of the brick wall.
Andrei stood a few feet away from the brute, "Now didn't you pick the wrong fucking roof to go onto? Looks like I'll be adding four more markings on the wall." Andrei said, he wasn't one to duel the one he wanted to kill, that had cost him too much before. "Hey, firewood, stop hiding behind your friend and get out and fight for your /pathetic/ life!" He shouted. "N-n-no, you a-are cheating... Y-you have a gun!" The small man said, trying to defend his dignity.
A small metallic sound could be heard as Andrei dropped the gun on the rooftop, "Not anymore." His blade shot out from the handle he held in his right hand, "Looks like I have to do some cleaning tomorrow." Andrei said and looked at his blade. The blade was recently honed so it had a silver color that reflected the moonlight. Soon it wouldn't be silver, it would be covered in crimson red blood.
The brute took a step forward in an attempt to fight Andrei, he swung his fist and with a swift motion Andrei retaliated with his blade and the cold Metal connected with the warm flesh of the brute's arm.
"AAAAAAAAAAGHH MY ARM!!" He shouted and fell down on his knees, holding what was left of his arm against his body, "Ha..HA..HAHAHAHAHA... Die." the distorted voice rang out on the roof as Andrei laughed before shoving the blade through the man's neck.
The skinny man was now shaking in fear for his life as he watched when his team was slaughtered before him. Andrei pulled out the blade from the brute's throat and watched his body hit the ground. He turned his attention to the skinny man with the intention of ending his criminal life as well. "Didn't your mother tell you it was wrong to steal? That crime is something to stay away from?" He said as he walked closer to him. "Didn't she tell you that I'd kill you if I found you? Didn't she warn you about assassins? Didn't she tell you to be a good boy and obey the law?" He wiped his blade against his leg and stopped in front of his target, his face was an inch away from his mask. "Tell my mother Hi from me, will you?"
The target's breathing was uneven and shaky as Andrei closed in on him, when the Assassin's mask was almost an inch away from his face he was blinded by the light coming from it, "P-p-plea..." For the last time, he was interrupted. Andrei's blade came out from his target's back, dripping with blood. Andrei pulled out his blade and pushed it in again, puncturing the targets heart. "Did you say something?" He looked at the other's face as it grew lifeless, "I didn't think so." Andrei said and pulled out the blade again. The lifeless body hit the roof with a thump.
As the body hit the cold roof Andrei looked down on it, shaking his head slowly. There was two deep red spots on its back where the blade had punctured the skin and the fabric. The blood on the shirt satisfied Andrei as he grinned under the mask, he turned around and looked at the rest of the bodies. He sure had made a mess. Looking around he began thinking, hadn't there been five of them? Oh right, the kid!
He turned around to see if the mark on the kid was still there, as he did he saw the red silhouette appear at the other side of the stairwell. His blade moved into the hilt as he put it away before picking up his gun. He removed the clip from it and fired the single bullet that was still in the chamber into one of the bodies.
He began making his way around the stairwell when he heard a faint sobbing sound, the grin on his face disappeared slowly. Surely the criminals had been the kid's "Friends" or rather role models and he had just killed them like nothing. The assassin made his way past the last corner and saw the kid sitting against the wall with his face buried in his knees. He was shivering as well, probably from the cold, but the fear that he'd end up like his gang members was also a factor.
Andrei lowered his mask, revealing his face and moved closer to the kid, kneeling in front of him. He had never been good with kids, he liked them but he didn't know how to act around them. He ran his hand through his hair before speaking to the kid, without his mask distorting his voice. "Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt or kill you. What's your name?"
The kid had heard Andrei's boots scraping against the rough material on the roof. He closed his eyes and hoped that he'd remain undetected. But when the Assassin sat down in front of him, he knew he had been found. At first the kid wanted to run away from him, to hide, but he somehow knew that it wasn't his brightest of plans. When Andrei spoke to him he looked up at the man in front of him. He didn't look so scary now that the mask was gone. He looked rather kind actually, "M-my n-name i-is F-Filip, w-who are y-you?"
Andrei gave Filip a soft smile, "Hello, Filip, nice to meet you. My name is Andrei." He replied. The kid was wearing tattered clothes and looked rather famished. Andrei guessed he hadn't had something to eat for the last two days at least. "W-why d-did you kill t-them?" Filip asked with his shaking voice.
He wasn't prepared for that question, not from a kid that young. "Well, they were criminals, and crime must be punished. They were too many for me to arrest them all by myself." Andrei retorted with a serious tone. The kid looked at him, he had managed to stop his tears from running down his cheek. He took a few quick breaths before speaking to the Assassin before him, "A-are you going t-to punish me?" The fear in his voice was hard to hide, but at least he tried.
Andrei shook his head, "No, No I'm not. I don't do that." He reached out his hand to Filip and smiled softly at him again.
Filip looked at the hand then back into Andrei's eyes. He kept his hands close to him, but at least his breathing slowed down. Andrei took back his hand and moved to sit next to Filip. "Tell me, Filip. Why were you with those criminals? Crime is nothing a child like you should be doing."
Filip's gaze never left Andrei as he moved to sit next to him. As he spoke to him he thought about it. He had been doing it for almost a year now, since his mother had passed away from a disease. "I have to... My mom died almost a year ago, and my dad is gone. Otherwise I'll starve."
Andrei nodded and looked up at the dark night sky that enveloped Zaun in darkness, he sighed. "I can't bring your mother back, but I can give you something to eat. How about that?" Andrei offered and looked back down on Filip.
Filip's eyes shone up when he heard that Andrei was willing to give him food, "REALLY? You'd do that? For me?" he asked with a surprised tone, he was starving. The last time he had gotten something to eat was three days ago, although the gang had found food he hadn't been allowed to eat from it, as; He hadn't made himself worthy of food yet. He had gone without food for almost a week at most, so when Andrei told him that he had food for him it made him really happy.
Andrei nodded slowly, "Yes, I'm willing to do that for you. I hate seeing kids going around hungry.". He smiled softly and held out his hand again. Filip looked at the hand again, this time he didn't think too much about it, he lift up his hand and placed it in Andrei's hand and nodded.
Andrei closed his hand and got up from the cold roof. He pulled up Filip from the ground and placed him next to him and began walking to the door around the corner. Filip followed him as fast as he could, not wanting to see the dead bodies of his old comrades.
Andrei led Filip through the old hotel and down on the dark streets of Zaun. In this area of Zaun had no streetlights, so all that lit up the streets was the moon. Or it usually did, this night was rather cloudy, so the moon was unable to light their path. The walk took almost an hour but they finally arrived at Andrei's new apartment he had gotten from the Chair Man when he joined his team.
The apartment was well lit and had been furnished before Andrei had gotten the key to it. When they stood in the hall they had a rather large kitchen to the right, filled with kitchen equipment so he could make a dinner that could compete with the ones they had at the DuCouteau manor, not that Andrei took his time to make a dinner that fancy. To the left of the kitchen was the living room, it held a rather large crystalline screen and two couches along with a table between them. Through the living room you reached the bedroom, inside there was a rather large bed for someone who lived alone and a workbench.
The rest of the apartment was almost unused except for the workbench where he had spent most time to hone his blade and tune his gun.
There was a bathroom next to the kitchen, almost the same size, which Andrei found rather odd. All he needed was a toilet and a shower along with a sink. But at least he didn't pay for it.
When they walked through the doors to his apartment Filip looked in awe at the place, for him it could very well be the abode of a king. Andrei pointed at the living room, "Go and sit down in the living room over there, I'll make you something to eat.", Filip nodded and took of his shoes before walking in to the living room and sitting down on the couch.
After a while Andrei came into the living room with two omelette's, he put one of the plates down in front of Filip and told him to eat as much as he wanted, he could always make more.
Time passed and Filip who hadn't eaten for three days was finally full, he had taken a shower and Andrei had told him he could take the bed.
They both slept for a few hours and when the two woke up Andrei approached him, "Hey, kid. There's a place I want you to go to, I'll walk you there, I'm sure you'll like it there." Filip looked at him with a curious look, "What kind of place?" He asked.
Andrei sat down on a nearby chair, "Its.. well... It's called
"Dietrich's Home for Abandoned and Lost Children" It's a place where you'll meet other kids your age, and eventually, you might get a new family. I'm no father figure, never been and probably wont be for a long time." He explained, he knew he wasn't the best role model for a young kid, and he wanted Filip to have a good chance at life.
Filip nodded, "Okay, sounds good." he didn't look too happy about it though, maybe because he wanted to stay with Andrei or because he was afraid that he'd never get adopted.
The trip took another thirty minutes for them to arrive at the Orphanage, Andrei waited outside the Orphanage for Filip to come out and tell him what had been said. He sat there waiting for a good thirty minutes without him coming out.
After another thirty minutes he got tired of waiting, he assumed that Filip had been accepted into the orphanage and decided to leave the orphanage and head to Viktor's lab. He was actually a bit disappointed that had been left like that, but it was up to Filip whether he wanted to talk one last time or not.
He looked behind him one last time before walking in on a road that led him to Viktor's lab, no one came after him.
The assassin entered Viktor's lab and closed the door behind him, "Viktor, I have an idea for a new weapon, I need your help with it." he shouted as he made his way into the lab.
