Naiyu nodded her head as Jacob talked, listening with all her might. Her cheeks flared a soft rosy color at his -at least she took them as- compliments, giving off a uncharacteristically radiant smile. "R...Really?...I-I thought...healing was no big achievement....e-everyone else is so...powerful and...s-strong..."
She even more so admired Jacob for it, as well. "...I think every magic...h-has wonderful purposes...I-I wish I had...damaging magic...maybe then, I'd...be more confident..." Her eyes took a dark shade, and her hair covered them from view as her memories rose to the surface once more. Maybe if she had been damage-oriented, back then, on the day everything went wrong, she would have...
Naiyu shook her silver tresses, willing the thoughts away. "I-I'll...be able to start o-once we get these p-papers delivered, i-if that's alright with you, Sir?" She said, trying to gain just a little bit more courage in her words. This was a person she'd be around for a long time now. She might as well begin getting used to them.

He nodded to her question. "It's easy to break something, anyone can do it. But only a talented few can fix something." He liked seeing her smile. She seemed so nervous and timid that seeing her happy was a relief.
Which made her sudden sadness more jarring. Did she feel so weak? He knew he had to say something. "I don't think that is true. Confidence comes from being comfortable with yourself and you obviously are most comfortable with your healing magic. That is why you chose it."
He gave her a genuine smile. "People often choose the type of magic that reflects them. And when I see you, I see someone that wants to help others, not harm them. So be that person. Be the Naiyu that wants to help others and then confidence will come."
"Eager to practise so soon eh?" He gave a hearty laugh. "You certainly are a tenacious one, Miss Persici Lu. I can already see the confidence coming! Very well, practise shall begin when we are done here. And please, call me Jacob. I don't think Sir fits me very well."

She smiled softly and nodded her head as Jacob spoke, trying as much as she could to believe in his words. Thinking about what could have been and what should have been only seemed to make her sad and doubt herself more than she already did daily. She had been so busy thinking about what she would be like if she wasn't the way she was, she never really gave thought to the perks of her abilities.
"...Magic...that reflects...them....huh..." She muttered under her breath, thinking about the statement seriously. If that was true, then why was she a healer? Sure, she had thought at the time that it would be alright to begin with healing magic, to keep herself from suffering harm anymore, like she did under the hand of her mother...now that she thought about it, she didn't wish what she went through on anyone else, either...which makes her healing understandable...
"...I-I can see that...I think I...get it, a bit..." Naiyu said, smiling at Jacob. "I want to...do my best...so I have to..be more c-confident!!" Her words were only daunted by the small huff of tiredness escaping her. Just how far away was this man's office?!
"...A-Are we nearly there, though?...I-I think I'm about to p-pull something..."

"I look forward to see that." This women was certainly full of surprises. He did look forward to seeing where she would go in life
"Don't worry, his office is just around the corner" Jacob replied, as the pair entered into the artificer wing of the Institute. From here he took the lead, taking her to a large set of double doors.
"Hey, Kourelan! I got your papers! Open up!' He yelled, while giving the door a firm kick to also announce his arrival.

"Come in!" could be heard faintly through the doorway. The wooden door was unlocked, and past it, past the door and the empty desk in the antechamber, Kourelan sat at his desk. He was working his way through a small stack of papers on his right, and didn't look up from his writing.

Jacob motioned for Naiyu to follow him in. He approached the older man's desk and place his stack of papers onto it. He also took the pile from his struggling apprentice and placed her pile on top of his. "Here are your manifestos for the month. A couple interesting things in there." he said, giving a tap to the top of the pile.
He had been doing this for Kourelan for years now, tracking down magical objects that appeared in Bilgewater for some extra pay.
'Ah, where are my manners? Kourelan, this is my apprentice, Naiyu. Naiyu, this is Senior Summoner Kourelan. He looks after the many artifact we have here at."

The old man looked up from his desk and curiosity raised his brow. He looked between the papers and the woman who set them down, her face seeming both nervous and relieved to him.
"My my Jacob. You've caught yourself a pupil? You'll have to tell me some time how you managed it"
He stood slowly and gave a little bow. "Nice to meet you Naiyu, don't let this ones appearance fool you, you're in good hands as far as I'm concerned but don't go picking up his bad habits."
He paused for a moment looking over the large stack of papers on his desk. "Is that all of it?" he asked incredulously. "Are you sure there isn't another pile hiding in your office?"
His other papers were set aside as the warden rifled through the new stack. "Good work Jacob", he said as he became more absorbed in his work. "Yes..." He grew quiet while reading.

Naiyu timidly entered the office after Jacob, giving a small whine of approval as he relived her of the piles that had no left a small row of lines dug into the flesh of her arms. Really...she'd tried to look better in Jacob's eyes taking more than she could handle, but next time...she'd stick to the actual studying being what she impresses him with...
"P-Please to meet you, Sir K-"...Naiyu paused for only a small moment, trying to sound the name correctly, "...K...Kou-relan...?" She stuttered, praying she'd gotten it right. Deciding to turn her focus away from it quickly, her eyes flew to the papers as she shrunk back from the other summoners talking. So they were reports about magical items in Bilgewater? Was the league keeping tabs on different 'weapons' going in and out of the countries? Now that she thought about it, if it really was for tracking items, it would make sense for there to be a lot more than this one pile...
Naiyu couldn't hide the small worry in her eyes. Her arms were going to get stronger from this whether she wanted them to or not.
Curiosity overtook the small summoner as Kourelan drifted into silence, scanning over the papers keenly. She also tried to look and make sense of them, but found a pout forming quickly when she couldn't make heads or tails of it.
"...c-confusing work..." she mumbled lightly, Kourelan moving swiftly through them and leaving her in the dust.

A small frown formed on Jacobs mouth when he saw how much Naiyu had struggled with the papers. She was pushing herself too hard meet goals he could imagine might be unreasonable. He noted to make sure any physical work he gave her would be light and not too taxing.
He let his worries drift as Kourelan spoke to him. "You know how disorganized I am. An assistant is what I'll need to help me keep on top of things. Anyway, she just graduated and is beginning her advanced studies."
He gave a laugh at the mention of his habits. "I wouldn't worry about that. She's a bright one. She won't pick up any of my bad habits."
The old mad loved his work. Even after 6 years of doing this, he stilled poured the same enthusiasm and effort into it as he always did.
"It's been a pleasure as always Kourelan, but Naiyu is keen on starting her work. Until next time." he said with a casual wave before walking out.
Jacob would laugh as soon as he and Naiyu had left Kourelan's office. "The old man has been doing that for so long he could do it in his sleep. Don't worry about it though. As you learn and practise you will eventually become as fast as him at it. Now then, are you still interested in practising today?"
Post by Naiyu Persici Lu on Oct 18, 2013 14:06:34 GMT -5
After they'd left the office and Kourelan behind, Naiyu thought for a small while about what she would like to do next, once Jacob presented her with the question.
"...Well...as long as...t-there's no pressing paperwork..." Her golden eyes flickered up at the elder summoner, "...I'd like a...little bit of practice?...i-if that's alright...I'd...l-like to let you see...just what I'm at, so you can decisions...i-is that alright?"
Timidly her fingers messed with the gem at the front of her robes. 'See where she was at' was more like 'see the one skill she has and laugh', as far as she thought to be honest. But the sooner her and Jacob actually got into a form of training and studying, the sooner she'd learn more and better herself. If this healing, non-destructive magic was really as special as he said, then she'd need to get a better grip on it. It was going to be hers, so the better it was, the better she'd feel about it.
"...W-Where would we go...to practice magic?..." She wondered out loud, not really thinking about it before. "There's places to s-summon champions, but..."
Post by Jacob Cervantes on Oct 20, 2013 3:31:17 GMT -5
"No, that is all the paper work I had for now." Jacob said as he laughed nervously. The stack they had delivered was its size due to negligence by him. If Naiyu worked diligently, she would be delivering papers a fraction of the size the pile was.
"The Rift? No, we wouldn't practise there. Hasn't been used since they stopped League matches. There are numerous practise rooms we can use." He explained as they walked. "You can show me the extent of your learning and I will decide where we will take your learning."
The practise room was longer than it was wide, forming a lane that ended with a target. A table with chairs sat opposite it, obviously for study or less intensive magic. Other magical station were in the room; alchemy table, divination stand anything a summoner would need to practise basic magic
"Alright, I'm suppose to start with basic Summoners Spells, but I'm assuming you are competent with them. Lets see how strong your healing is."
He reached for a clean knife from the alchemy table. ""I'm going to cut my hand. I want you to heal it." he explained. He felt that if he spontaneously did it, his new student might panic at his strange method.
He would then draw the blade across his hand, leaving a thin red line of blood on his palm. A basic spell would heal it easily. By seeing how well she healed it, he could determine her skill and power.

The small summoner's eyes took in the room quickly, a slightly excited smile tugging at her lips. Naiyu was always one to adore reading and magic practice, even if only on her own most of the-....all, of the time. Seeing this room for the first time, she was a little happy it wouldn't be her only visit to it. A nice, solitary place to study with Jacob to her heart's content - so long as her work was kept up on, obviously. She could get used to this...
"Hah?" Was all she managed to murmur, her eyes wideneing ever so slightly as Jacob smoothed the blade over his skin, a thin trail of red following after. On instinct, Naiyu shut her eyes. But she just as quickly regained her composure, rushing her hands to meet the small wound as warm and comforting wisps of emerald light caressed the elder's hand. As the cut was a small one, it took nearly no time at all for the flesh to close itself up. Only a small fleck of drying blood remained on his skin, all traces of the slice gone from view. The entire ordeal only lasted three seconds.
"T-There...??..." The silver haired female breathed out, lowering her hands nervously. She hadn't expected him to actually injure -himself- just to test her healing. It was a little frightening, to say the least...but she was a lot more calm about it than her very first time healing a person. Something that surprised even her. Pleasantly, of course.
She looked up at Jacob, a sheepish expression on her face. "H...How was it?...i-it was small, s-so it went quickly, b-but...u-uhm...t-tada?..."

Healing was always a pleasant sensation. It was a soothing warmness that filled you and removed your pain. Even with his warning, his student still seemed surprised by his action, but she quickly regained herself.
He retracted his hand when she finished and inspected it. A slow smile crossed his face as he regarded her work. A full heal, no lingering pain or scaring, and in short time. She had much potential.
"Excellent work." he commended her with a smile. "That is some quality healing. Now, what else are you capable of?"
Post by Naiyu Persici Lu on Oct 24, 2013 16:29:59 GMT -5
"U-Uhm......what...else....." Naiyu pierced her lip, and blinked several times. What else did she have besides her healing? Well...
She went on to do...the very basic summoner skills. Although she performed them ever so slightly better than most, they still were surely nothing new to someone like Jacob. A small heal, a persistent flame, a medium sized barrier, and the rest of things available to near everyone else in the Institute. Besides her one, unique mending skill that was better than the natural summoner spell, she didn't know anything else...
"...I haven't gotten...a-any special training before...my heal, was...w-what I learned by myself..." The young summoner muttered, her hands falling to her sides and clutching at her robes. "...Only...because it was n-necessary...t-to have a better heal...w-while looking for ingredients...f-for crafting..."
Her eyes drifted a bit and her voice wavered sheepishly. "...S-Sorry...I'm n-not very useful..."

Jacob quirked an eyebrow at his apprentice. Was this her only spell? He had at least a few spells at her age and several more in theory.
He sighed. "It's perfectly alright. Instead of learning a variety of spells, you stuck with one and practised it. Sometimes quality is better than quantity. But with that being said, lets see if we can lay some ground work."
He approached the lane with the practice dummy. "Listen closely. Magic does reflect a person, but it is also extremely malleable. You can shape it to suit your needs." As he explained, he drew a pistol from his belt and aimed down the lane. A yellow ball of magic would shoot from the gun and travel towards the dummy. It would create a small explosion on impact, tearing the target to pieces, before a another one took its place. A second shot followed to the new target, only this one pierced right through it, leaving a clean hole.
"I can shape the magic to suit my needs. The first maximized damage, while the second used more accuracy. All magic can be shaped like this, even healing magic. You just need the aptitude to understand it...and create it."
He turned back towards Naiyu. "Now, what kind of magic would you like to make?"
