A bottle with a message inside it would float down the halls of the Institute. It would float and bob as if it were in the water, but instead it uses air.
It ignores everything in its path, moving around any obstacles until it found who it was searching for. A small female summoner.
The bottle would fall into Naiyu's lap and uncork itself. The message reads as follows
"Summoner Persici Lu
You're presence is requested in at the office of Jacob Cervantes, the Emissary of the League to Bilgewater. Please attend as soon as you are able

Naiyu peered curiously at the bottle nestled in her lap. Cautious pools of gold looked the note over carefully as her fingers smoothed the message out. Once the contents had been made known to her, her face lit up with nervous yet excited happiness.
With a careful haste Naiyu prepared herself to hurry to the designated meeting place. She wasn't sure what exactly to bring with her, or what to prepare for exactly. This was, naturally, her first time doing this...
"...I'll...b-bring a notebook, j-just in case..." She mused to herself as she plucked a small purple notebook from her desk, heading out the door and straight towards the office mentioned. Thankfully for her, the magical note also included a route to the office, or she would've been lost for at least a week...
That was no exaggeration. It had happened before.
Standing in front of the door, Naiyu took a deep breath, then knocked lightly on it. "E-Excuse me...p-permission to enter?..."

The door would open at Naiyu's knock, revealing an office quite different from most of the others. It resembled a captains quarters more than a summoners office. Maps and paintings of ships hung from the wooden walls, giving the room a rustic feel. A fire pit hugged one of the walls, with 2 couches facing it.
At the end of the room was a large wooden desk, flanked by a boudoir of alcohol on one side and a large globe on the other. A large leather armchair faced away from the door, it's rocking motioned showed that someone was sitting in it, though they made no move to turn around.
They would say nothing as Naiyu entered the room, the door closing softly behind her. Nor would they make any reply to any question she would ask. After a minute of saying nothing, a loud snore would be heard from the other side of the desk.

Naiyu had to fight herself rather hard not to let out a sigh once she heard the light snore come from the chair's direction. She gave a tiny smile, however, and walked slowly towards the chair. Once she got there, though, she paused and stared at her feet.
....how should she go about waking them?...
A look of confusion crossed her features. Would it be rude to shake them? Making noise would probably make them wake in an irritated mode, and that was the last thing she wanted to have for their very first meeting. Did they have some sort of alarm set? Or were they testing her in some way?...
After staying quiet for some time, Naiyu mustered up all her courage and decided to gently shake the sleeping person. Her small fingers pressed against the chair lightly, rocking it back and forth with controlled force. "S....Sir?.....p-please wake up?.....S-Sir?....Sir?!...."

Jacob was awoken by someone shaking him.
"huh?...I...uh.." he muttered as he tried to clear the fog of sleep from his mind. He had passed out in his chair again. His unfinished paper work was still on his desk, as well as the opened bottle of rum he had started drinking because of his boredom. Not his fault the paper work was boring and his chair was so comfy and the rum so sweet.
A timid voice drew him from his thoughts and sleepiness. He turned to look at the petite women next to him.
"Ah!" he exclaimed in excitement. "A visitor! Welcome to my office!" he grabbed her hand and shook it excitedly. "Please, make yourself more comfortable."
Jacob always liked meeting new people. He had been rather lonely as a child, so he wanted to make up for all the lost time and friends he could.
A gesture from his hand brought on of the chairs in the room behind Naiyu. "Anything I can get you Miss? Water? Milk? Rum if you are feeling brave? Haha!"

A sheepish smile spread on the golden eyed summoner's face as the older male greeted her rather kindly. "P-Pleasure to meet you, S-Sir!" She chimed in jitters, shaking a little unrealistically from the force made by his handshake. At the very least it seemed like he was a very friendly person. Maybe she didn't have to be so nervous?
She slightly mulled over the drinks he offered. Water was always a safe choice...milk did sound rather good at the moment though...then again, she'd never had rum befo-
The assaulting stench invading her nose all but eliminated that choice.
"M-Milk would be great, th-thank you very much..." Naiyu mumbled, trying her best to not offend. The last thing she needed was a bad impression...
While Jacob was busy, Naiyu would take the chance to look around the office and take in the decor of it. Blinking several times and picking her words carefully, she posed a question towards the man. "....A-Are you, maybe...from B-Bilgewater?..."

He grabbed a vial and a mug from his cabinet and set it on his desk. He poured the vial into the mug and filled it with milk. "Magic, such a wonderful thing. Don't you agree?"
He smiled at her comment about his home. "Yes! I am from Bilgewater. I'm their Emissary in fact. Very astute of you to notice. Please, get yourself a seat." he told her, gesturing her to grab a chair.
"Lovely town, if you get past the pirates and the fighting and the pirates and the gambling and the pirates. There are many pirates there." he rambled on as he poured himself another drink of the foul smelling liquid before sitting behind his desk.
"Now, what brings you to my office today Miss...?"
Post by Naiyu Persici Lu on Oct 3, 2013 11:38:36 GMT -5
"A-Ah, thank you..." Naiyu replied, lowering herself into a seat after smoothing out her robes timidly. "I've....heard a lot about Bilgewater...I-I'd love to visit for the view of the sea...b-but..." She gave a smile at his ramblings, a light giggle escaping her. "...y-yes, many pirates..."
She vaguely recalled a Champion named Gangplank. If her memory served her correctly, he was also a representative of Bilgewater. If his conduct was the norm for those that come from there...she wouldn't be visiting anytime soon without more combat training...
Oh! Speaking of training...
"R-Right!..u-uhm..." Fishing into her deep pockets, Naiyu produced the note that had found it's way to her and presented it to the elder. "I-I received this earlier, a-and came as fast as I could. I-It told me to come here, s-so I...did? Ahah..." She chirped, making sure to smooth the note out as not to make it look rude.
"I-I'm still very new...s-so I'm not sure how g-good of an apprentice I'll be...b-but I'll try hard, i-if you'll have me!"
Post by Jacob Cervantes on Oct 3, 2013 15:25:53 GMT -5
Jacob nodded in agreement with Naiyu's appreciation of the sea. "Don't let my rambling worry you. Bilgewater is a relatively safe place. The locals are more than friendly and the sea can be spectacular, even to someone like me who dislike it."
Jacob looked at the note she placed on his desk. "Ah! You must be miss Persici Lu! A pleasure to finally meet you." He took a sip of his drink, more of it's foul smell permeated from the mug.
"Yes, you are here to learn from me, but there is more than that. My position has me frequently travelling between Bilgewater and the Institute, a time consuming action." He stood from his desk and moved over to the globe next to it, giving it a spin and pointing to Bilgewater. "A lot of travelling tends to leave me behind in my work."
"Which brings me to you. You have experience working as an assistant, remarkable ones to if your recommendation is correct. Not only will you learn from me as an apprentice, but you will also aid me as an assistant. You will help me with my paperwork, my scheduling, my meetings and other assistant type activities."
He walked back to his desk, sitting down in his chair with a spin before facing her again. "You will be compensated for your extra work and expenses, as you may need to travel with me to Bilgewater on occasion."
He gave her a smile, hoping she would be excited. "Well, Miss Persici Lu? Would you like to see the ocean?"

The petite summoner listened attentively as the man spoke, nodding her head with each point made clear. It seemed like she'd be rather busy from now on...then again, besides the normal Summoner exams from time to time and mandatory training matches, she really didn't have anything better to do, sitting in her room all day...
Well, that and her experiments. Her wonderful, wonderful experiments...
"A-Ah! Right! I-I understand!" She answered. "I-I wouldn't say I'm very skilled, b-but...I know my way around a d-document or two?...I-I'll begin whenever you'd like, S-Sir!" Her words came out quickly, as if stumbling over each other. She really hadn't talked so long for quite a while...It was hard for her to keep vocal, but she would always try her best.
At the mention of the ocean, her eyes brightened slightly. "Oh...I-I'd really like to, someday..." her voice wavered just a bit as she spoke, and she looked towards the globe on his desk. "...someday..."
A light cough escaped her, and her golden hues fluttered to the alcohol Jacob had been consuming. "...D-Does that...really taste...g-good to you?...it...smells...not so good..." Mumbled the small summoner through her hands.

The man stood up with a big smile on his face. 'Excellent!" he yelled. "We can start whenever you are ready." He reached into one of the drawers into his desk and hefted a large pile of papers onto it. "These are the manifestos of all the trading vessels that came into Bilgewater this month. Please make sure they are given to Summoner Kourelan."
"Well you are in luck then Miss Persici Lu, I happen to be travelling to Bilgewater in a few weeks time. You are more than welcome to join me."
As for her question about his drink, Jacob gave a good hearty laugh. "Honestly? No, the drink tastes terrible. But it reminds me of home. Not the best reason, but it's enough for me."
He took a look at the pile of papers in front of him, then to the small women he asked to carry them. "Why don' t I bring these myself?"
Post by Naiyu Persici Lu on Oct 5, 2013 5:24:57 GMT -5
The girl's jaw nearly slammed into her lap when Jacob revealed the sheer amount of paperwork he had piled up. How did someone get that far behind?! Of course a higher ranking summoners like himself would have much more to do than herself, but...just how long was he waiting for an assistant?!
"..." After freaking out ever so slightly in her head, Naiyu let out a small giggle and smiled. "...t-thank you...I'm not...sure I'd make it d-down the hall by myself....a-ahah..." She answered honestly. She was always a naturally weaker girl. It was probably obvious, from the way she carried herself, but she was trying hard to overcome it. Since it seemed like this would be more labour involved than she thought, it might help with that, too...
Lifting herself from her seat, she quickly made her way to the desk, slipping a good bit of the papers into her arms. "I-I'll try to carry some still...c-can't have you doing all the work already...!" came her voice cheerily as she headed to the door. "I'll...get used to it s-soon, I promise!"
As she stood near the door, she recalled his answer about the drink. It seemed a good enough reason for him, but of course she wouldn't understand very well. After all, she felt no real attachment to Demacia, much less her actual 'home'...but that was because of her own circumstances. Maybe...she was just unlucky. If he loved his home enough to put up with such a...vile smelling thing going into his body, then that just proves there's at least good homes out there. Her opinion about 'homes' might change...just a bit.

Jacob was surprised to see her carry as many as she did. He smiled at her tenacity and willingness to work. He had made a good choice with her.
He gathered the remaining papers and followed her out the door. "You lead on where you want to work on these." he told her. The Institute was buzzing with activity as usual, the halls full of people moving to and fro.
"So Naiyu, what kind of magic do you specialize on?" he asked her. H wanted to start teaching her soon, and the best place to start would be to know the extent of her ability.

"Er..." Naiyu thought for a while, shifting the heavy paperwork between her arms. "...There's the...standard...s-summoner spells...but p-personally, I guess I'm...s-support like?..."
Turning and shuffling down the hallway, she made sure not to bump into anyone, least her little cargo spread all over the floor. Anything worse than carrying something heavy was picking it up to carry it again..."...A-All I can do for right now is h-heal, though...I-I'm still very new, s-so I don't have any actual t-training for learning my v-very own skills..."
Her nearly glowing golden eyes shifted up towards Jacob curiously, "...W-What kind of magic do y-you use, Sir?...I-If I may ask, o-of course..."

Jacob listened to Naiyu list her spells. She was right where she needed to be in terms of skills. Knowledge of summoner spells, as well as a few basic ones.
"Perfect! You have the basics, but have yet to delve into the more complex forms of magic. This means we can work together on shaping some magic that will help you the most."
He gave her a warm smile as she stuttered out her question. "Of course you may. Please don't hesitate to ask questions. I am here to help you learn and the best way to do that is for me to know what you want to know." Jacob knew she was a bright and talented girl, but her meekness was going to hold her back. He knew that she could learn much if she had the courage to.
"My magic is much more destructive I'm afraid. I find it to be very simplistic, no where near as complex as healing. Only really talented mages can heal well."
He meant his words to her. Destroying things is simple. Healing and fixing took real talent.
"We can start practising magic whenever you are ready."
