((Fuuuu, I need to find a better picture of Jay...))
Name: Jay D. McIna
Alias: The Techmaturge Savant
Class: Mage
Race: Human
Age: 27
Occupation: Scribe/Secretary to the Noxian Supreme Command
Residence: Noxus
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Abilities: SUMMONER SPELLS: He was a Summoner, so he’s able to access all major forms of Summoner magic, such as teleportation and summoning, as well as the summoner spells such as Fortify, Smite, etc.
INVENTOR: Jay works at Maria’s workshop in Noxus, and lets loose his creative imagination to create a plethora of nifty inventions.
...although he has no canon inventions as of yet.
MANA STAGNATION: Jay's body has an odd, relatively hard to trace physical condition that causes his body to temporarily prevent mana from moving around it in a fashion similar to Negatron armor, causing an apparent dysfunction of mana-powered devices or objects while around him. People around him may notice it takes a half second longer to cast magic when within a half foot of him, and that spells used on him tend to lose some energy before making contact.
(Causes him to have higher-than-normal resistance against magic and disrupt some magical devices and most techmaturgical devices while in physical contact with them, but prevents him from using magic of his own.)
THE GAUNTLET: Jay built, with funding from the Institute of War, a way around his mana-disrupting condition; the gauntlet projects a mana-positive field around Jay, feeding off of the mana that would normally pass through his body and using that to power the mana-positive field and cast in the form of spells.
(Allows him to use magic, but causes magic spells used against him to have full effect, and then some, boosting them with excess mana on impact.)
WEAKNESSES: Jay’s gauntlet doesn’t truly have a limit, but if it does surpass a certain point of mana concentration, casting spells has a chance to fail, causing his gauntlet to fizzle and go gray. For a short time after, he can’t cast any spells. Also, when he’s not wearing his gauntlet, he is unable to cast spells period, although he does gain resistance to other’s spells. Vis versa, when he is wearing his gauntlet, he is able to cast spells, but his weakness to magic is multiplied tenfold.
Relationships:
Marcy Lee: A Vampire he met in Noxus. They slept together, and dated for a while, but recently broke up.
Maria Blackwind: His boss, she bosses him around. He doesn't mind it, though.
Swain: The High General, and by extension, also his boss. They don't interact often, though.
Kayle: Jay has a fantasy crush on her; however, being Noxian, he tries to keep it under wraps, which is difficult with the poster he has hanging on his wall.
Rose Sonder: He met her at a party thrown by Draven, and is teaching her how to use magic, as well as maybe hanging out with her occasionally. It's mostly just a friendship, though.
Description: Jay is tall (Slightly above 6’), with dark reddish-brown hair that flops over his face. He’s slightly pale, except for his face. He sometimes wears glasses, although he doesn’t really need them. He wears a black robe with silver highlights. His gauntlet is silver and scalloped, with a blue gem set into it at the apex. Lines the same color as the gem run down the sides and into the edges of the gauntlet. When he’s absorbed a lot of mana, the main gem glows and splits into six fragments.
He’s kind and defensive of others, but he’s willing to overlook his values if it means advancing Noxus. Even when he’s glum, it’s obvious he’s trying to keep chipper, if only for the benefit of those around him.
Biography: BIRTH: Jay was born in Noxus at a relatively high position. From an early age, though, it was obvious he wasn’t going to fit in very well. The toys his parents brought him broke within minutes of his touching them, and while at first they simply thought it a fluke, it was a guaranteed constant. Anything powered by magic broke within minutes of him touching it. They tried to keep it under wraps, but in a city like Noxus, well…
Good luck with that.
BROKEN CHILDHOOD: When he was old enough to go to school, they sent him to a small school out of the way from the center of Noxus, with the express warning to the teachers that he was to be kept away from any magic in the school. Unfortunately, even the most basic implements the school used were based around magic power. It became obvious quite quickly that Jay was the cause of the malfunctioning equipment, and he was immediately expelled to save the school money. Jay’s parents struggled to find a school willing to take Jay, and he was constantly flopping from school to school in a constant state of expulsion. Eventually, they had to resort to homeschooling him. By then, he was far behind normal kids his age, and he’d shelled himself in behind a false smile and constant state of silliness to deal with the pressure of being accepted nowhere.
TEENAGE WANDERINGS: Eventually, his parents just gave up on him, unable to stand the pressure of teaching him and supporting the family at the same time. They left him to educate himself, with a pile of money and a promise that he’d always be welcome home. He began to wander Valoran, observing curiously the magicians and techmaturges, but never participating in fear of sabotaging their experiments. As is, he was eventually run out of many of the towns by many accidents. He eventually found that wherever he went, regardless of what sort of magic it was, his body absorbed it all. While he did eventually catch up on his studies, he was still shunned from almost everywhere due to the importance of magic in the world’s society. He eventually settled down in the outskirts of Noxus.
MASTERING YOURSELF: Until he was 21, Jay worked for a local blacksmith, working more as a gofer than an actual blacksmith. He made plenty of money, though, and eventually was able to save enough to move back into the center of Noxus, rent out a laboratory, and start conducting experiments on himself. He began testing the limits of his affliction, and traced the cause of it to a mana disruption, which he named 'Mana Stagnation.'
While medicine was not able to nullify it, he eventually discovered on accident that wearing Negatron gloves allowed him to handle magical objects at the least, giving him more room to work with on his own. Through further experiments, as well as a grant from the Institute of War, he discovered that by using certain devices, he could re-focus the pull of the void into a battery instead of the destructive pit of his void. After many explosions, and failures too, he pieced together a gauntlet made from modern techmaturgical tech and older legal runes that successfully cured his mana stagnation.
TECHMATURGE SAVANT: For the next year, he began experiencing all the things he never could when he was affected by his condition, from using techmaturgical devices to watching mages work on their craft up close. He began developing a rather keen understanding of it through very, very close attention, and eventually managed to teach himself how to control small amounts of flame. But eager to do more than simply that, he broadened his horizons and applied to study at the Institute of War itself.
WELCOME TO THE INSTITUTE: The Institute of War had already sponsored his creations before, but now that he was applying to become a summoner, his whole course was changed. He began training to become a Summoner as soon as he was accepted, and over the course of five years, he became a slightly below-average summoner, with access to immense funds, as well as a laboratory all to himself. While he was working as an artificer for the League, however, Noxus pulled out of the League, leaving him jobless.
THE NOXIAN WAR MACHINE: Struggling to find work for someone of his specific skillset. Eventually, he found his way to the Noxian High Command, who welcomed him with open arms…as a secretary. While he specifically works for Maria Blackwind, he is now at the beck and call of the entire High Command, and loving every minute of serving his country. Except for the paperwork. He hates the paperwork.
Long-term Goals
-Cure his mana stagnation
-Get promoted in the Noxian government
-Possibly become a summoner again
-Improve his inventing and magic skills
-Try and get Marcy to forgive him
