Equipment:
Zenith Blade:
Leona's sword. It belonged to the previous Avatar of the Sun. The weapon is extremely resilient to physical and magical harm, to the point of which the only damage that can be readily done to it is through powerful relic weapons. The sword can easily have solar energy transferred into it as well as channeled through it. Depending on the amount of energy in the blade, it can either give light burns or scorch what it comes in contact with. Against the undead, voidbeasts, and similar creatures, the weapon is more powerful. Only the chosen of the sun is capable of wielding the blade, if anyone else picks up the blade it becomes searing hot and will eat through their hand.
Xiphos:
A fairly plain yet effective short stabbing and hacking sword that Leona carries on her, slung underneath the left arm for easy access when using a shield, even in cramped conditions. It is a useful sidearm used when her main weapon cannot be reached or when it is impractical to use it.
Thrusting Dagger:
An important weapon to carry for armored fighters that intend on fighting other armored combatants, the primary purpose of this dagger is to stab through the gaps in armor when in close quarters, and is especially useful when grappling with an armored opponent. Leona carries this on the same side as her sword.
Shield of Daybreak:
Similar to the sword, the Shield of Daybreak belonged to the previous Avatar of the Sun. Like the sword, again, it is extremely resilient to both physical and magical harm, to the point of which it can only be effectively damaged by powerful relic weapons. The shield readily accepts and channels solar energy. It can give off dazzling blasts of sunlight that can temporarily blind, stun, or if charged with large amounts of energy, blast enemies back at close range, as well as burning them with solar energy. Only the chosen of the sun can carry the shield, if anyone else attempts to pick up the shield it will become searing hot and begin to burn through the offender's hand.
Aegis of the Sun
The Aegis of the Sun is another one of the relics of the past Avatar of the Sun. The armor is a full body suit of plate designed to give the wearer maximum protection while having an absolute minimal effect on maneuverability. The armor can be damaged by conventional weapons, although relic weapons are more effective. The armor has a natural resistance to magic, especially dark and void magic, intensified when more energy is stored in the armor. When exposed to direct sunlight, the armor slowly pieces itself back together, although far too slow to make any difference in combat whatsoever. The armor can easily store and channel solar energy, like the other two relics. When solar energy is channeled into it, it is strengthened according to the amount of energy channeled into it. The more energy, the stronger the armor becomes. The stored energy can be released in a radial blast of energy that knocks back and burns enemies, again, the amount dependent on the level of energy released. The armor is molded to Leona's form and it will not allow itself to be worn by any other than her by burning through the offender that attempts to wear the armor.
Abilities
Leona can readily call the power of the sun to her at any time, although it is significantly easier to call down larger amounts of power at day, especially when in direct sunlight. The larger the amount of power she has called to herself, the more powerful her abilities become and the more powerful she becomes physically. Her abilities are increasingly effective against the undead, voidbeasts, and similar creatures, due to the nature of solar magic. A visual indicator of how much power she has called to herself is the intensity of the light emanating from her and the amount her eyes glow. The more energy she has called down to her at one time, the more taxing it is on her physical form. This effect only becomes noticeable in the case of prolonged retaining of solar energy, or when she has called large amounts of energy to her. It will typically take her several hours to a week to recover, again, dependent on the amount of energy called upon.
The primary limit to the extent of the solar magic she can perform is how physically demanding the ability will be. Otherwise, the limit is creativity. Spells can range from conjuring a spear of sunlight to forming barriers of energy. Spells are rather easily linked to her weapons and armor, due to the ease with which they conduct solar energy.
Solar magic is a unique form of magic that is centered around calling the power of the sun to ones self and then manipulating it as seen fit by the caster. Solar magic primarily burns what it is used upon, being especially effective versus the undead and dark creatures. In addition to damaging the physical body, solar magic is capable of burning the life energy of a being. This effect is seen the most when powerful solar magic is used.
Outside of her solar abilities, Leona is a highly proficient fighter, both armed and unarmed, due to her Rakkor upbringing. Her combat skill is on par with Pantheon. She fights with a style which is intrinsically brutally efficient and aggressive, being a Rakkor fighting style. She is extremely proficient when fighting with a sword, and is trained in fighting with a spear. Her physical capabilities are superhuman, being on a mildly higher level than ordinary humans can reach due to the nature of her being Avatar of the Sun. With larger amounts of solar energy called down to her, her physical capabilities further improve.
The following are her League defined abilities as they function off of the Fields of Justice.
Shield of Daybreak
As previously mentioned, Leona's shield can accept and channel solar energy. It can be released in the form of a blast at close range, typically enough to temporarily blind the opponent at least, with larger amounts enough to stun or even blast back.
Eclipse
Leona's armor can have solar energy channeled into it, increasing her resistance to both physical and magical forms of damage. When the energy is released, it will send out a wave of solar energy, which, if powerful enough, can knock opponents back.
Zenith Blade
Leona's blade can project a spectral image of itself in a straight line which has all the properties of the regular blade, cutting just as if it were made of steel. Upon connecting with an opponent, Leona can choose to rematerialize at the end of the projection, in front of the opponent struck.
Solar Flare
Leona can call down a blast of sunlight with varying strength, ranging from one that causes light burns and may temporarily blind and stun those caught within it to a blast of light that can vaporize what it strikes. The ability is easier to use in areas exposed to direct sunlight, and is exceedingly difficult to use at night.
Relationships
Pantheon - An old friend, dear to her. Leona has much respect for him, and although she respects his chosen path of the warrior, hopes that he will not come to the bloody end he expects to meet, or at least that she might be there with him.
Diana - Leona holds regret for what Diana suffered through, as she believes she was responsible. She wants to convince her to abandon her quest for revenge and live life without being vengeful for the rest of her days. She also has hopes of ending the ancient feud between Solari and Lunari by making peace with her. However, she holds doubts in her mind as to if she can be swayed from her path or if the only way she can be stopped is death.
Parents - Leona has complicated feelings for her parents. She still loves them dearly, but could not bear the sight of them because of the disgrace she must have brought upon them because of her actions and the disappointment they must have in her.
Description
Leona stands at 182 centimeters tall(6 feet). As can be expected of someone of Rakkor upbringing, she is in amazing physical condition. She typically wears at least some level of armor, anything from only a few plates to full armor. When not wearing armor, she wears simplistic Rakkor style clothing.
Biography:
On the upper slopes of Mount Targon, the warriors of Rakkor live and breathe only for war. However, Targon's peak is reserved for a special group of Rakkor who answer to a "higher" calling. Members of this group, called the Solari, retire their mantles of war, choosing instead to devote their lives to reverence of the sun. According to legend, the Solari were formed by a warrior who could call the raw might of the sun down upon his enemies in combat. He claimed Mount Targon's summit, the point on Valoran closest to the sun, for his solar devotion, a tradition which generations of Solari have preserved to this day. Though they maintain their reverence, no other warrior possessed the gifts of the founder – until Leona.
Leona’s parents were traditional Rakkor, both bred for the heat of battle. To them, Leona was a problem child. She was capable of fighting as fiercely as any other – including her childhood friend, Pantheon – but she did not share their zeal for killing. She believed that the true worth of a soldier lay in her ability to defend and protect. When it came time for her Rite of Kor, a ceremony in which two Rakkor teens battle to the death for the right to bear a relic-weapon, Leona refused to fight. For this, the Rakkor leaders ordered her execution, but when they tried to strike the fatal blow, sunlight burst forth, bathing Mount Targon in light. As it faded, Leona stood unharmed and her executioners lay unconscious around her. The Solari immediately claimed Leona, demanding that her sentence be repealed. She donned the golden armor of the Solari and they bestowed upon her the sword and shield passed down from the ancient sun-warrior of legend. The Solari helped Leona focus her abilities, and when she was ready she left to join the League of Legends.
“The sun's rays reach all of Runeterra, so too must the image of its champion.”
―Leona
