The missive received from the High Councilor should have not come as a surprise, but despite it all, Tybresa was quite shocked about it - not by its suddenness, but by the simplicity of the note. It was a simple summons by High Councilor Kolminye herself, asking to see the Senior Steward in her offices in the following days.
The lack of a date or time should have not stopped Tybresa from immediately complying, but already two days had passed and she had yet to leave - with the paperwork finished and neatly organized on her desk, the woman found herself staring out of the window of the room, watching the desolate landscape beyond the glass, lost in her thoughts. There was an odd sense of finality hanging over her shoulders, like she could guess the possible outcome of the meeting - but despite it all, she did not feel neither fear nor panic. It was more ... a sense of emptiness that could even rival the Institute's Outer Grounds. Her heart had been a hollow plain for the Devil to dance again, but at least her mind had been lucid and filled in the void in her chest - but now, even that has changed. Days passed in a blurry haze, with faint memories of thoughts and words flashing before her eyes, but for the life of her, she could not remember their meaning.
Tybresa turned her gaze away from the window to rest on her desk - at the very edge, a single square of paper rested, with black scribbling marring its surface. Even though she was too far away to see, she already knew the message, each turn of the quill and even the location of the period, at the very bottom of the last letter.
There is no reason to dally any longer. She found herself thinking while her body automatically moved towards the door, already forming the course to the destination in mind - the seat of the Council of Equity, the Heart of the Institute of War. The walk itself should not have taken long, but Tybresa found her steps turning into lead as she advanced - there was an uncharacteristic hesitation in her movements which she quickly willed to disappear, but found herself unable to do so entirely. Needless to say, it took her more than the estimated time to finally reach the grand chamber where the largest Nexus Crystal hovered in the center, casting a pleasant electric-blue color all around it, with shadows spreading further away from the center. The rhythmic, pulsating sound that emerged from it was the reason of the name brought to this room, for it sounded similarly to that of a living heart, beating restlessly in its place.
The sound of her heels clicking against the floor did little to dampen, never mind silence the drum as Tybresa slowly made her way close to it, unable to keep her eyes off from the Crystal's depths, the light slowly blinding her as the energy contained within throbbed, incessantly trying to break free, without avail. To think of the power contained in such a crystal was enough to leave a lesser mind awestruck, but to Tybresa, she could not help but see an ironic twist to it all. So much potential, held back by something so beautiful. She finally found herself forced to look away, her eyes stinging from the dots of light that were momentarily burned on her retina, but it did not stop her from approaching the stone pedestal over which the Nexus Crystal floated until she was but a step away from it. With her eyes closed, she seemed to revel in the otherwise pleasant sensation the light cast on her face, finding it a good replacement to the lack of sunshine she had in her life with the upcoming winter. She allowed herself the respite to let the rhythmic drumming spread in her being as well, if only for a taste of heavenly rush ...
But despite it all - the chamber turned out to be so quiet ...
