May 20th
For trolls, patience was a punishment.
There was nothing a troll hated more than sitting, waiting, and hoping. All but the most steadfast of trolls would rather bound after whatever they wanted than bide their time and let it come to them. It was a survival instinct; moving kept you warm and what you wanted was usually never stupid.
But Trundle understood that patience had a place. The hard part was making his subjects understand that, more often than not. Today was one of those days where it was important they understand why patience was important.
"Alright, troops!" He said, standing in front of the rest of them. "Y'know what we've got today? We've got a little treat. Whole group of Avarosans and Winters Claw, plenty of food, all that stuff." There was a bit of cheering from his group of troll soldiers, outfitted with crude weapons and simple armor. "Only problem is, you lot are too loud." He glared at them, causing them to fall silent. "And they're going to be big...so we're going to have to play smart!"
There was an audible groan from the group, but Trundle silenced them with a simple glare. "Here's the plan, boys...and don't you dare disobey..." The pass the courier and her party were going through was silent, with little more than the snow and wind to break the quiet. Looking across the fjords and great expanses of snow, one could forget how brutal the Freljord could be and instead be taken in by the beauty.
At a point in their journey, the courier would have to pass through a large cavity in between two mountains, a long, stretching corner. While there was plenty of space within it, room enough for the trees to grow, it felt closed-in to many. The sides of the path were lined with snowdrifts, as it had snowed the night before. It was picturesque and calm. Trundle and his band of trolls sat concealed in the snow drifts. It wasn't a complicated plan, merely an effective one. When Trundle gave the call, they would erupt from the snow and take the party by force from out of nowhere. Trundle had given them orders not to kill either the courier herself or Sejuani; Lissandra wanted them both alive. Everyone else, however...well, the kingdom DID need food...he supposed the trolls may need a small snack to reward their patience. But for now, they sat and waited.

Snowfall and the unforgiving wind accompanied them as Sejuani and five of her best men rode out in formation on the Frjord to Rakelstake. What trail they left would be covered in time by the snow. The bite of the wind was not unknown to them; these conditions were tame compared to what they knew. Weather aside, she could not take any risks. If what Tryndamere believed was true then there was a chance someone could come along and deliver this woman to The Avarosian King, mangled and with false regards from the Winter Claw. Already blood had replaced a peace offering. The irony was that she did not seek peace but only to honor their help. If she was going to kill Ashe, kill Tryndamere and conquer the Avarosian she would do it on her own terms.
Her men were armed with axes, swords and shields and rode upon the backs of Freljordian horses, bred for the cold and the snow. Their armor was light, of animal hide. Sejuani rode and insisted that the courier ride with her. If she was to be injured, it would be upon her head and no one else’s. They were making good time but their journey was not over yet. As serene as Freljord could be at times it could turn in moments. Even those who had lived here all their lives more often than not fell to the elements when they grew too bold. They took a short cut through two mountain passes that offered relief from the elements. But such a closed in space was perfect for an ambush. “Do not let your guard down.”
Sometime within, along those snowdrifts the animals grew restless. Perhaps scared? They came to a slow and did not wish to proceed, save for Bristle which let out an aggravated snort. “Smell something Bristle?” Sejuani kept an eye out. She had no desire to stop. If anything they could proceed with caution but it never hurt to pay a little more attention to what was around them.

Was the name of this courier ever mentioned? I do not believe it ever was... well, for future record her name is Nora. Nora, was in one of the strangest and most awkward positions she had ever been in her life. For one, she was from the Avarosa, and she was riding on Bristle, with her back physically touching Sejuani's. If she were not the courier, she would have been dead long ago for merely thinking she would be in such a position! She has had a lot of time to muse on these facts though, and she was not as worried about it as she once was. She did find it odd though to have her bow and quiver in front of her while seated on this massive boar, especially since she could easily see the other riders accompanying the Winter's Claw leader. She could feel their contempt-filled eyes upon her. She had no arrows drawn into the bow, but it made her grip the wood more tightly.
Then a sudden halt of the company.
Even the mighty bristle stopped his movements, the sudden lurch backwards having her back hit Sejuani's somewhat suddenly. She was used to walking and trekking, not riding.
"Sorry." She hastily said, not wanting to offend her in any way considering the circumstances. It took her a few moments, but she felt something was... off. All the animals had come to a stop, and everybody seemed on edge. She wasn't sure what was going on... but she knocked an arrow in her bow just to make sure. She did not have it drawn, just ready, in case something happened. If they continued moving though she would put the arrow back in its quiver after a minute or two, but for now, she heeded Sejuani's words, and prepared herself.

It was time.
The party had come to a stop right in the middle of the ambush's circle; they'd likely scented out one of the less clean trolls. But that didn't matter, they'd stopped right where he needed them.
With a shrug, the snow tumbled from his shoulders. Standing up straight, he cracked his neck, standing in front of the party with Boneshiver lounging by his side. A wicked grin on his face, he just stared down the party for a moment before looking to the skies and letting out a battle cry.
Within a moment, four other trolls popped out of the snowdrifts, all armed in assorted simple weapons, all crying out similar cries to Trundle's, blending into a single horrific shout. Within a mere moment, however, they were charging across the snow towards the warriors, Trundle at the lead and closing in quickly. "It's lunch time, boys!"

They heard the snow and something rose from the ground suddenly. Her men quickly put themselves into a position for combat. They weren’t mounted fighters. They soon realized it was no legendary beast but rather something more known to them but perhaps just as fierce. The Troll King himself stood before them with Boneshiver in hand and the only one who could hope to match him was Sejuani.
He roared out and others sprung. How many more were there? Sejuani glared at the leader of the troll hoard. Here stood an opportunity to remove a large threat from her tribe and from Freljord. Her men showed no fear. It looked like the numbers were even, oddly enough. When Trundle orders the charge, her men responded in kind. There would be no holding back. “You’re boar food Troll King!”

The sudden commotion made the archer's head turn, but she could barely see anything past Sejuani's shoulder. Carefully she stood up in the seat, precariously balancing on it to get a better view of-
Trolls. Trolls everywhere. And the big one, was that... no, Trundle?
She didn't believe this, two champions face to face before her eyes, and she was going to be hanging on for dear life. She remembered she had the arrow knocked in her bow, and deftly let it fly at the Troll King before plopping back into her seat and preparing another to release. This was going to be a bumpy ride, but as long as her posterior remained on Bristle she felt she would be safe. She didn't even want to consider her fate if she was tossed aside into the snow.

Trundle was smirking at his opponents as the Trolls began to close in, and was about to run forwards himself when he felt a small, stinging pain in his shoulder. He paused for a moment to find an arrow notched there. With an exaggerated groan, he plucked it out and flicked it into the snow. "C'mon, you really think a dinky splinter's gonna hurt? Never fought a troll, have you?" He then laughed and bounded forwards, joining his warriors in the fight.
From behind, two warriors lumbered to attack, wielding clubs made of wood, simple and crude-cut but thick and sturdy. They quickly approached the rear guard, raising their clubs high to attack as they rushed forwards, swinging for the guards they saw with fast, devastating strikes. From another side, a slightly larger troll stood tall, waving a brutal ax carved from stone as he charged for one of the sideguards. The last guard was left to another troll, larger than all of them except for Trundle himself, his face plastered in a slightly stupid grin and holding nothing but his bare hands. Brute the Berserker (that was his name) charged forwards just as wildly, ready to deliver a shower of pain from his fists (and likely his mouth - he'd been in the cold a long time, very hungry) onto the first enemy he landed on.
Trundle came towards Sejuani and her passenger himself, Boneshiver swinging straight for Sejuani. He was pulling his swing today; a bit injured would be fine, but they wanted her alive. All he had to do was keep Sejuani distracted until her guards were dispatched, then give them a chance to 'escape' the ambush. He figured the only way this plan could go wrong would be if his trolls finished too quickly and decided to have the rider and her companion for desert. "Batter SWING!" He yelled as he struck out at her.

Disappointing. It only made sense that he would not be felled by a single arrow but it had done damage. However such an injury would prove negligible to a troll of his size. He’d regenerate from it quickly. Sejuani knew that Nora would not dismount. “Hang on.” She insisted and urged Bristle onwards to meet Trundle.
The two trolls were not stealthy and were met with their prepared rear guard that was armed with axe and shield and sword and shield. Their clubs were met with strong wooden shields that were reinforced with iron. Their strikes left a last impression as they retaliated. They were just as strong as these common trolls and were better equipped. One gained an advantage and capitalized upon it, he gained momentum and bashed the club to the side. The follow up resulted in the axe head being buried into the trolls head leaving the rear guard in a better position to fight.
The axe wielding troll was met by another who was armed with a greatsword and promptly braced himself for the charge. The last was despite his armaments were overwhelmed quickly by the larger troll. It was a losing battle but the Winter Claw warrior managed to wound him across the abdominal once or twice during his aggressive assault.
Just like the Fields of Justice Sejuani thought as they closed the distance. “BRISTLE ATTACK!” She commanded. Her trusted mount launched himself forward with his full body weight with the intent on seizing Trundle in his jaws or goring him on his tusk. Sejuani began swinging her flail mid leap and was more than ready to bring it upon Trundle’s head. The troll had brains; she didn’t mind showing all those hear what they looked like.

The rear guard was proving to be a bit difficult for the club trolls, as shown by the cleaved skull of the less prepared one, spilling his green blood on the snow. The other one, however, managed to at least disengage by knocking one back and bounding away into the snow. To the side, the axe-wielding troll spun his axe in a brutal crescent, trying his best to cleave the soldier in two, although they seemed fairly evenly matched. Brute had a ridiculously easy time, though. Even though the soldier managed to slash him across the chest a couple times, he didn't care. He just grabbed the man's arms and tore them off, sniffing one for a moment before shrugging and beginning to chew on the raw meat.
Trundle, though, was in a different league. Sejuani was ridiculously strong for a human, and while he could equal (if not surpass) her one-on-one, Bristle was a completely different level. No troll had single-handedly brought down a Freljord Boar, not even Breaker the Bearded - of course, that didn't really matter much since Breaker the Bearded wasn't real, but the point still stood.
Trundle braced himself in the snow, holding Boneshiver out to take the brunt of Bristle's charge. He slid a few meters back as he was hit, but managed to not get killed by the blow, so it was a start. Bristle was still charging, though, and Sejuani was about to bring the flail down, so he adjusted himself slightly and slid off to the left of her, dodging the flail and letting Bristle continue his charge. They were now a fair distance from the rest of the group; once things were finished, it would be fairly easy for Sejuani to run.
Where'd you learn to fight, Sejuani? I've seen baby trolls show more skill than you - and let me tell you, baby trolls are idiots." Boneshiver glimmered a faint blue for a moment and Trundle rose his hand as if he was conducting an orchestra, and with little else to egg it on a crystalline chunk of ice jutted out of the ground, soon followed by even more until a pillar of ice stood between Sejuani and Trundle, with a tree behind that. The only way through was around. "Bet even you can't break that, Wrath of Winter."

What could Nora do? There would be few opportunities to fire more arrows at the trolls while she wasn't clutching onto the saddle for dear life. She could feel the boar underneath her charging, the deep imprint of hooves left behind in the snow. She would do what she could, but in her current position it was little at best. As a champion of the League, she trusted Sejuani's strength to see her through this, even if her opponent was another champion.

The man screamed in agony as he was made into more or less a meal. Even as the blinding pain came over him and he began to die of a combination of shock and blood loss he still tried to flail and buy time. It was futile but the pitiful effort was there. The other troll disengaged, falling back but the men knew better than to chase a small fry. They joined the battle, focusing on the larger troll that was evenly matched with one of their own. They thought nothing of teaming up upon one of these filthy creatures.
As she pressed the assault it became clear they would have their own battle here. For a moment she thought she should go back and kill each and everyone one of his trolls on her own, but she thought better of it. Her men were strong, even if she lost a few she knew these warriors would get the job done.
But then the pillar rose. His positioning was good; she couldn’t reach him anyway directly. She grew annoyed but it also meant Trundle wasn’t going anywhere. She directly Bristle to turn back around. Just as she could not go through to him, the same could be said for Trundle. It was the better move. As much as she’d like to kill Trundle on an aggressive assault, she knew she could bait him out to her with a withdrawl.

The axe troll had severely wounded the soldier he was paired against in a lucky blow, left unblocked. It wasn't a killing blow, but the man was left crippled in the snow, giving him an opportunity to run forwards and help Brute. Brute was holding back the two soldiers, but he wasn't doing too great, until the older troll came in with a battle cry from behind, making it a fair fight for them.
Meanwhile, Trundle was pacing back and forth, keeping the pillar between him and Sejuani. "You think I'm stupid enough to attack you in there? Ha! Go on, Sejuani." He gave a cold glare through the semi-clear ice, grinning at her. "Run. Save your little friend there. You're not going to win this battle; may as well survive to fight in the war, right? Winter is coming!" He called, backing away slowly. "Can you handle the cold?"

As Sejuani turned Bristle around, it gave the young archer another opportunity to let an arrow fly. She was just high enough that she could see Trundle pacing and muttering something about his intelligence. She didn't particularly know what or even wanted to know. But her window was quickly closing. She knocked an arrow, raised the bow, pulled the string, aimed, and fired another arrow at the great troll. At the very least she could aid in the battle to the best of her ability. Her life was in their hands, after all.

The blow struck hard, rendering the warrior almost unable to use his sword efficiently. Soon the fight turned into what was effectively 2 ½ vs 2. Sejuani disregarded Trundle and came upon the scene. Her flail began to frost and freeze here and there before he lashed out at the air and a replica of a bolas made of true ice soared at the two and struck against the backside of the largest of the trolls. The bola shattered and in the cross fire the other was hit. Ice crept like death over their beings and in mere seconds the two trolls were held to the ground and frozen with an expression of pain and surprised stuck upon their faces. Her men took the opportunity to start bashing upon the now open neck, though shieled of the larger of the two trolls. They softened him upon just enough for Sejuani to ride by and strike.
THWACK! She struck hard against Brute’s head. With a sickening crack and crunch it came off with the follow through and flew fifteen feet and bounce into the snow. The strike was a testament to Sejuani’s strength as well as a way for her to drive a point. Even the strongest of trolls who wished to test the Winter Claw did not last long.
