Alignment A summary of your character’s personality. A deeper explanation of the alignment system we would like you to use can be found here.
Abilities Any ability your character possesses beyond the norm for their race must be listed here. This includes magical spells, martial skills, active equipment and the like. While a Passive+QWER format is very simple to use and organize, it is not necessary for this entry.
Equipment This section is where any weapons, special clothing, armor, medicines, potions, trinkets, ammunition, money, and the like are listed. If one of the entries in this area has a magical effect, please list that effect in the “Abilities” section.
Relationships List all relationships that are relevant to your character here. Friends, family, teachers, bosses, notable allies and notable enemies can all fit in this area of your profile. If your character has a link to a pre-existing character on Maelstrom, be they champion or original character, it is important that it be listed here.
Description Describe your character’s physical appearance, personality, quirks, height, weight and other vital statistics here. If it relates to your character’s physical form, it goes in this section. More detail is always appreciated and helpful in this area.
Biography Use this section to list your character’s background and life story. Any relevant information that made them who they are as they enter Maelstrom’s stage goes in this area. Their childhood, schooling, tragedies, accomplishments, loves, losses, anything that has been impactful to your character goes here. Long Term Objectives This section defines what your character seeks to do in our world. Everyone has goals in life and so will your character. Whether it is to avenge a grievance years old, to find a way back home after being exiled, or to find a cure for an illness that common medical practice cannot. Your interests may be many or few, but this is where you list those goals in order of importance (most to least) to your character and your bio should include details about these interests.

These tips come directly from the OC Council to you to help you make your character better.
Swain
Lore compliance. Story, story, story. When a character's lore challenges or directly contradicts Maelstrom or Riot canon, this says to me that the writer has not put forth the effort in research to make their character integral to the world in which we RP. This is an immediate red flag for me. Contrariwise, when a character's lore makes reference to and fits in seamlessly with canon events, writer receives my immediate thumbs up.
Simplicity. Don't overdo it. The point of RP is the journey. You don't start out on the top unless lore says you do (i.e. champions, head summoners, state leaders); you RP your way there. Don't try to do too much with your kit. You don't necessarily even /need/ a kit. Don't force combat skill on a non-combative character. Don't overcomplicate your character by including things that aren't central to his or her essence.
Personal continuity. Your character should be a believable product of his or her experiences. Think hard about the psychological and physical effects of certain life events. Everything should fit seamlessly together.
Originality. Don't copy a champion's kit or theme. My goodness, this is one of my biggest pet peeves. Your character should bring something unique to the table. Unique does not mean "strong." It does not mean "hero of the story." It does not mean cliche. It means intriguing because of realistic, character-specific traits and experiences.
Clear goals. You should create every single character with purpose. How are they going to fit into the world and the story? You should know this already, as a writer, when you introduce them. Think about why the world needs this archetype or role filled. Think about how your character will interact with existing characters. This is world-building. This is not about cool kit ideas or bad asses for the sake of badassery. That kind of RP is not fulfilling, and it's not what MS is about.

Know how you fight. Not just what you use and what it can do, but how you use it.
Know thyself, not others.
Pay heed to others. If you attack a character’s morals or self, then expect repercussions.
You are not the main character in the story. You can have meaningful RP about your OC, but you are not the lead actor in this play.
HAVE FUN! If it becomes work or annoying then you need to stop. Take a break. This isn’t supposed to stress you out. It’s meant to be fun.
Know your role before building it. (Kinda is Swain's too)
Keep to the lore of our world.

A demonstrated understanding of both plot and purpose allow your character to more actively be integrated into the canon. Having a goal for your character and understanding where it fits into the grander scheme of things is the difference between always knowing where your character should be going and not knowing how/where to go, what thread to make/why you're making it.
A demonstrated understanding of where your character slots in, power-wise. Knowing that your character can't (and frankly, shouldn't ever) beat Anivia in an Ice magic competition allows everyone involved with your OC, from creation to execution, to actively engage around you without fear of doing something wrong.
Realistic goals (that are defined to some degree) mean that your character actually has a place in the world and more importantly, that you know what your place in it is. It shows a sense of purpose once more for the Oc and furthers the idea that this character is well thought out and has something to provide the story as a whole.
Lore Additions, NOT Lore Recreations. You never ever want to change, define or otherwise completely contradict another character (Champion, OC, Lore Figure, anything) and their story. You're more than welcome to add points that play off of what exists already, but make 100% certain that you do not destroy what existed before you. Retcons help no one.
Magic. Understand what it is you can do and what sacrifices you've got to make to achieve that kind of power. It's likely taken many years of your life to get the spells and magicks that you've got. Much of your time was likely spent in scholarly pursuits, and your knowledge should reflect this, as should your age (barring extraneous reasons that prevent this being the case.)
Xypherous
Fit the canon, look at our world and think of something that fits in it and DOES NOT BREAK THINGS OR IS TOO QUESTIONABLE!
You must realize: you are an OC. You are not almighty or significantly important to the plot, if anything you are here to help advance it in your own way.
(Combat OC note) Have your abilities compliment your character, you shouldn't be a vampire assassin that uses a BATTLEAXE, or a monk that uses a gun.
Think of the plot, what does this character bring to it? Having a character endlessly wander the world to explore it is fine, having a character wander endlessly for a common goal with a champion/other OC is great!
Communication communication communication. Talk with the people you intend this character to be involved with, make plots ahead of time so when you're approved you have things to do instead of shrugging and going "what now" to yourself.
Iron Stylus
Know your character's limits
Be believable.
Accept the consequences of your actions.
Grow, but remain true to your character.
There's no rush. The fun is in the journey.
