So it's a brand new year in Maelstrom friends, we've been through alot together in this community both good and not so good but of course we're all looking to improve both in and out of character with this new year in beautiful 2014.
But before we face the future let's take a quick trip to our pasts, how did you get into Maelstrom/League of Legends from your previous community/video game (If you had one). What made you want to join/play?
For me it was leaving my sheltered life in the World of Warcraft 'hardcore' raiding community though I didn't actually make the full on switch until late Cataclysm when my guild had 'finished' all the content and we knew Mists of Pandaria was still pretty far away. The first time I heard of League of Legends and actually logged into the game was in the late Burning Crusade Era around Nidalee's release due to some friends in my guild who played during our downtime, at first I absolutely hated the game because of it's PvP playstyle and that you couldn't just sit in the jungle and PvE all day to eventually 1-shot people.
For me to actually pick up a game and keep on playing it had to have replay value, quality gameplay and a decent story. I didn't really get my hand into RP'ing actually until I found the official Roleplaying forum on the site, though there I was pretty much a bystander till I decided to make my first Oc there and pick up the champion Rengar. Some things occured over in that community where I made friends that I still log into skype to talk to every day and eventually something just... happened over there and things started going south, and then one day I casually join a group call in Skype and everyone's talking about this new RP site called Maelstrom so I decided to join and pick up my favorite champion: Hecarim who I still RP to this day, later on I made a few OC's here and picked up another champion I grew to love which would be Zac.
The rest is pretty much history, now lemme know how you all got here and let's see some stories. (If this song doesn't come to mind you're a terrible person. www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8pQLtHTPaI)

((Terrible person post inbound and coming in hot.))
Again, I started off as a semi-regular MMO FPS gamer. Mostly liked games like Fable and Dark Messiah, but after playing the games five times, I got bored of them and needed something else, so I ventured into Soldier Front and explore the FTP market of games.
It was the second Season of League (right after Brand I think) that I got into League. I meant some people and started to enjoy the game, primarily as a means to socialize. As with all games I played I read the lore and liked it. When I entered the forum, I was excited to discover a lore discussion and went in to see what was going on.
This is back when there was no RP section, so the board was COVERED in "Ask ___" threads. That was my first Forum RP exposure. I wasted no time in getting my feet wet and didn't even draw up character. That is the core of Geokhan (and why he holds a special place in my heart). I ended up leaving the forum for a few months and came back to find that we finally got an RP forum (much to everyone's delight, including people who used Lore discussion for actually lore discussion).
This didn't last long, as I was feeling a bit off with the free form nature of the forum. Without true moderators, that forum was a powerplay fest unlike any other. Characters had no one controlling how far they could go and some people did whatever they felt like regardless of what was on their sheets.
It was me DMing a thread that finally broke me of OF. It was around this time that Swain was advertising MS, and though I normally opposed most advertiseing, I took a look as she was actually advertising a LoL RP. I got sold on the idea of a moderation team and asked if I could start making OC's. Thus, Victus was born and I started OC Intro's to keep track of our horde.
Then came the terrible four months of OC Intros, my attempts to balance that mess, and eventually asking Swain for the Council because it was too much for Swain and I to be doing....aka Swain had too much to do being the Head Admin and also balance OC's, but I needed help with balancing as I was going by ear more than anything.

Okay, I guess I'll go next then.
So I created my league of legends account during early Season 1, played the tutorial then left it. I didn't play league of legends until late Season 1 I think. I remember the forty minutes log in time back when there was only EU and NA. So the strategy was when you woke up, you started your computer and logged in and then when to do something else during the log in time.
Now, I got to level 5 when the split happened, which I had no clue about because I didn't care. So, I started to play League of Legends more and more with my IRL friends and eventually I began to reach their level which was 30. Now, I remember playing Cho'Gath a lot and when I watched the Season 1 World Championships I remember rooting for CLG. Now time passed and I reached level thirty, I did the standard thing: Jump straight into ranked and blame your team because you lose.
So it did not go well. 3 months before Pre-Season 3 I was sitting at 750 elo which was cancer. So when they started announcing that Season 3 was coming, I decided to get my shit together. I got to 1251 Elo which was 1 elo above Silver IIRC.
Anyway. So I started looking around different League forums and eventually I came across this odd place called Runebook, now this was at Facebook. I decided to look at it and stick around, but I didn't create an OC, just because I thought that RPing was lame.(Mind you that this was before I even tried it.) So time passed and I was sitting at school, bored. I looked at Runebook and thought: Why the hell not? Bam, I made my first OC. After sitting on Runebook a while I remember seeing Swain liking something on facebook about Maelstrom, so I checked it out and then I asked Swain about it.
Now I had no idea at first that Runebook Swain was Maelstrom Swain. But then again, there is a lot of things I don't know. So, I took some time and talked to Swain whilst creating my first OC here on MS. It didn't take long before I had my second OC here and around that time I believe I picked up Yorick as well.
Time passed and things have happened and now I am here.
Well, it started for me a looooong time ago. During beta, surprisingly enough. I know I've told you all in the past how I joined during Season 1; and that's true. However, my cousin joined during the beta, when League of Legends was just a growing idea. This was YEARS ago.
Anyways, he downloaded League on my computer so he could play it while he was away from home for a week, with promises to un-install it afterwards. I remember that I watched over his shoulder and kept on pestering him to buy Blitzcrank because he was a robot and robots are cool. Anyways, he was just screwing around so he decided to give me the controls; my first game of League was as Pantheon in fifth grade.
Needless to say, since my entire gaming experience before that was assorted Lego video games for the PC, I failed. Miserably. Time and time again. But it was fun! (Even though I tried to 1v1 Baron thinking it would be easy.)
Anyhow, years passed (two to be exact) and I got into other video games like Civ IV and DragonNest and stuff like that. At the end of seventh grade, I was flipping through old files in my folder and discovered this one left over titled 'LeagueofLegends'. It had the icon on it, and I remembered my cousin playing it a couple years back so I decided to check it out.
I had to re-install it (the old files had been p. much wiped by a crash in the sixth grade) and I made my account. I started playing it a bit and, over the summer, just became addicted. Went from level 1 to level 15 in just a couple of weeks. Now this is where my RPing comes in.
It started off in a very odd way. I started thinking of Champion concepts. Looking back, they were kinda...bad, yea, but that's not the point. Anyways, trying to get Riot to look at them (I honestly thought they would put them in the game x3) I sent them into the summoner showcase. Nikasaur sent me an e-mail back telling me that I should put them on the forums instead, and that they may get some recognition there.
And that's how I discovered the League forums. First, I just started off by posting my champions concepts in the concepts forum. They...didn't float over too well, but my rules on how to properly review a champion did. Moving on when one of my reviewers mentioned the Lore forums, I floated over there, and at that time, RPing still happened in Lore. First, I just kind of lurked and occasionally posted in discussions, but then I took a step out and made my own RP thread.
It died, yea, but that just got me hooked. I started jumping into every open RP I could find, which was pretty much all of them, and had a HUGE list of OCs that I could call on to do so with. Then there was the split into Lore and RP, and I got carried along with that.
I tried to grab a couple champions along the way in the new 'Ask' format (I never got many questions as Ryze, didn't go so well) but in the end, not long after Vi came out, I saw an advertisement by Swain for this website, Maelstrom.
Joined in a heartbeat (I needed a good excuse to get away from Off Topic on the League forums, but that's another story), signed up as Vi, and I've been RPing here ever since. Picked up Aatrox and now Trundle, have OCs scattered p. much everywhere, and yea. Found a good circle of friends to RP with and have fun. <3
All are equal in death; it's just that some people are more equal than others.

Before League, there was no game for me. It was the first game that truly captured my heart, and also my wallet. I dabbled with WoW and other popular games but just couldn't immerse myself in it for some reason. My friends were all Level 30 League players by the time they invited me to play...and it was embarrassing. I picked Vladimir first game and walked straight into turrets and never used my ult because it had such a long cool down.
I was a little turned off by the PVP nature of the game, never really experiencing a MOBA before. And there was so much to learn! (This was around the time Shyvana came out.) There were so many champions and so many movesets and so many EVERYTHING that needed learning. Despite my initial despair, I persevered and played Dominion for at least 200 straight games (mostly Morgana and Tristana) before venturing warily back into Summoner's Rift.
About six months into the game, I became interested in the champions backgrounds. Why were they even here? My friends didnt care for the lore, but I always had a certain fascination with story and character.
And then I got sucked into the lore, because it was so much more developed that other games I dappered with. I started following RP accounts on Twitter, never really joining in, but present. One of my friends actually found me Swain's Tumblr, and I recognized it as the same Swain from Twitter (who, unlike most of the Twitter role players, roleplayed their character with utmost care and detail).
Maelstrom was brought up. My friend and I were blown away by the seemingly vast forums full of so many League roleplays. I stayed interested; he did not. Timidly, I asked Swain how to join and apply. She replied promptly and politely, leaving the offer open to me. A month passed and I scrounged up the courage to join.
And here I am.

Okaay, sooo, I wouldn't want to go into detail about my internet history because that would be awful, yes?
Of course, before League of Legends, good heavens knows where I was, I forget. Probably some of those facebook social games, played them without end, or crummy flash games to pass the time - a good 3 years wasted on those kind of things.
Me and my best friend started out the League of Legends trend at school (yes, at school). Really, it's the first game I played so seriously, I remember being incredibly addicted - I thought I would die if I ever left a game or didn't get to play at least one game a day. Still in bronze, even though I started out mid-season 2. Remember my first champ I ever picked being Janna, and my first champion I bought as Sivir. Very important to me these two.
I think I was level 29 at the time, but I decided to start looking into the community boards more, because playing with just friends was pretty god damn boring. One thing caught my eye, and that was the Official Forums Roleplaying Board. It was fun, started out in the Sanctuary and annoying people like a little bitch. I admit I want to forget that ever happened because I only cleared myself up a few months ago, since that little lie I made up that I was 20 something. Everyone knew me as Jay. JayThePerson.
Then an opportunity opened up, good ol' Patrick (aka Tronei) came along and gave up Jayce on the OF. There really was no other champ that caught my eye, so I joined the community as Ask The Defender. Honestly, I was a pretty shit Jayce, and I still am now, but I remember hoe much Jayce was an important aspect of me, because he renewed my view on life and everything else, blah blah.
The community drama in December 2012 was atrocious. I hadn't quit Jayce yet, but I wanted to check out this new light of hope known as Maelstrom that had emerged from the ashes to assimilate the veteran OF rpers. I was sad since Jayce wasn't open (because god damn Patrick took him), so I took Master Yi instead. Everyone was leaving on Sanctuary, the OF became dull, and in a matter of two weeks, I decided to just ditch OF and come to Maelstrom.
Eventually, I managed to get Jayce. Made a nice thread, had a good time, but now that Piltovian champs post once in a blue moon, it's rather hard to continue. Champs I've gone through (in my compulsive champion select mode) was Sivir, Janna, Master Yi, Corki, Warwick... and most recently, Nidalee. I think I'll be sticking to these two a lot more now.
I also went to Runebook to chase after Swain. Managed to get Jayce out of sheer luck that the previous one quit, but ended up quitting Runebook as well.
idk why, but I had to clear up the little lie I made up about my age. I feel extremely guilty for it, but it's helped me cope with everything, and made me a generally more happy person.
Not having a lot of posts on Maelstrom is pretty boring. So I decided to set up a tumblr because I know quite a few Maelstrom RPers from tumblr, and a few Maelstrom rpers on tumblr. Made a Warwick blog to compensate for Maelstrom, shut it down at a peak 546 followers, and now, I ended up with a Yasuo blog. Not really saying what it is, but Swain might know!
And that's about it. If you do want my tumblog I might tell it.

Well, originally what got me into gaming was one of my big brothers, who was playing WoW, the original game before any expansions came out. As an interested little person, I watched from the side as he ran the lvl 60 instances back in Vanilla, and got PvP ranks and such. That interest went even further when I realized that a classmate of mine had the game, and since we were good friends, he allowed me to use his account. After trying out for a while, I bought the game myself, along with Burning Crusade, and started playing, got rather into it and played it until late 2012, where I changed up for Guild Wars 2...
Around early 2010 or so, I got first inducted into roleplaying by a new schoolfriend I had made who happened to play WoW as well, and since I had moved away from where I used to live, I took to the opportunity with intrigue and after some... shamefully stupid things, slowly learned and adapted, and made some of the best friends I've ever had. Some of them who I still talk to over Facebook and such. Somewhere in June of 2010, two of my close friends and classmates had stumbled upon on League, and after trying it out with one of their accounts for a game or two, I was rather surprised by the game, not having expected the quality that Riot had put into it for a free-to-play game. After figuring out why my computer seemed to always block it through firewall, I started playing it more and more as I could play it at home. I started originally playing one hour of League and 3 hours of WoW, but it soon turned into 3 hours of League and a bit of WoW.
My friends were never really into the lore, they sometimes looked at it and laughed, making a lot of jokes about Twitch and Gragas and how silly they looked, but I went over all the champions back then (Vladimir was the newest thing on the block at the time), and grew intrigued. As an old WoW player, I was stunned the first time (in multiple ways) when I saw the enemy team have Poppy, and the way she just rampaged through my team, 1v4'ing them to death constantly. Due to old examples from WoW, I thought Poppy was a tank and was really confused as to why everyone was dying, but I later figured it out and well... fell in love with the champion, both gameplay- and backstorywise. And I guess a lot of you know how far my love for the underrated little yordle goes these days...
Then, in 2011 as I started high school, I stumbled across the Lore Forums, which back then housed the Roleplaying community that was later transferred over to the Roleplaying Forums that Runaan created for us. I slowly entered the community, cautious and friendly, slowly making a few friends and in time ending up picking up Poppy. After fixing one horribly obvious mistake in my portrayal, I started (after a while) my own Ask board, had a lot of fun with people, becoming especially good friends with the Tristana there (<3 that crazy bastard). After a while however, at the end of 2011, there started to be more arguments between people, more disagreements and things that generally brought down the morale of those at the forums. With an amusing timing... came Swain's original advertisement for Maelstrom. At first sight, I didn't think much of it, but after a couple of days I thought that it couldn't hurt to give a shot to the place, as it seemed like a breath of fresh air with a different style of RP, more story-driven, and less of the ask-columns that had always felt a bit silly to me. After about three months of juggling both, and slowly dropping my activity on the official forums, I fully transitioned over to the Maelstrom, leaving a fond farewell to those still left on the OF.
I was happy with just Poppy for a while, and tried to bring an OC of mine over as well with a fresh start, but... there's not been much use of that OC to this date, but she's still hanging in there. I started thinking of trying something different, as many had done, trying their hand at something new, something different from what they had at the OF. It ended up in me picking up Fizz for the first time. It started as a half-joke, half-suggestion by our Katarina back then, and ended up with me actually ending up portraying the champion for a month or two, before dropping it. It wasn't because I felt bored with the role or such, but Swain approached me with a question. There was a new person on the forums who had interest in picking up Fizz, and as I didn't feel too comfortable with my portrayal of him back then, I graciously dropped the role for the new person to fill. After that Fizz unfortunately ended up with too many things keeping him busy IRL, I picked up Fizz again with a renewed interest. With some discussion and feedback from Swain, I changed my portrayal of him, into something that feels more appropriate, and have been (mostly) happy with how I've done with him since. I... guess that's my story.
