October 3rd, 23 CLE
Jay stepped onto the public grounds of the Institute, taking in the sights. He knew that, having quit a long time ago, there was no way he could get into the Institute itself, but here at least he could be close. Nostalgia was overpowering; his old work had been his passion, but ever since Noxus pulled out, he'd been stuck in a mediocre job as a mediocre person. That combined with Marcy leaving him and his time in Bilgewater and, for a short time, Zaun, he was left wishing to relive his better days.
He sat in one of the parks, eating a small sandwich and enjoying the views. Before he'd left, he'd sent letters ahead, telling his teachers, friends, and acquaintances that he would be stopping by the east park. They, as well as anyone else who happened to walk by, would likely find him out of place. It was just a matter of time, he thought, before someone orders me out. I doubt they'd want a Noxian on the grounds, public or not...

Sometimes, when you've been stuck alone for long enough, you just have to break out into reality, with no regard for what position it may put you in. It is better to try and fail than to never try.

R.J had been watching this oddity in the park for about two minutes now. the first minute was used as a observation phase, judging on the face of the man and the way he was sitting he was able to come to the conclusion that he knew as well as R.J did that he didn't exactly belong here, whether it was because he felt inadequate in the art of magic or because a rather eventful past was what he couldn't conclude however.
The second minute was put to work looking around them, R.J questioned why no one that had been walking through had bothered to question this visitor's intentions given his mediocre evaluation, were they blind? Or was he just looking for the chance to actually interact with someone whether it be positive or negative?
He sighed and attempted to adjust his hat before casually making his way over to the said oddity, though he wasn't in his traditional robes he had hoped his standard attire would do well to give off the look of a mage, or a scholar. Either way when he approached Jay he coughed lightly in order to get his attention before speaking.
"Though it shouldn't be any of my business since I am not on assignment sir, I notice you seem to be... out of place. Is there anything I may be able to assist you with?"

Jay glanced up at Robert, giving him a small smile and a shake of his head. "Well, I used to fit right in around here, but things have changed, I suppose. Nothing in particular comes to mind, though, unless you know how to get me my job back." He sighed and glanced away. "...anyways, I'm just waiting for a couple old acquaintances to show up. They should be here eventually, I suppose."

Now R.J was intrigued, was this guy a former summoner? Why did he leave, or get fired and why would he seek to return? Though at the mention of his old acquaintances he slowly nodded and decided if he were allowed to he would stick around to see who exactly this mystery man was.
He kept his focus on Jay with a look of passivity as he spoke, addressing him in a polite tone. "Unfortunately no, my position at the institute wouldn't be able to grant you that. Though with your permission I'd like to stick around to meet these old friends of yours, I'm rather curious and to be honest my day is rather uneventful and I obviously have plenty of time to kill."

Jay shook his head. "Feel free to join me. I have nothing but time for now." He gestured to the bench besides him. "So what's the Institute like nowadays? It's been so long since I've been here myself."

R.J would take the invitation next to Jay by addressing it with another nod and taking the seat next to him on the bench before answering his question. Of course he wouldn't be able to tell the official statements of the institutes status, but he also no doubt in his mind that they had already informed the general public with the information that they needed to know, with that R.J decided it would still be best to be vague in his response.
"Things are quite dull to be frank, what with the current events conspiring around Valoran. Though I'm supposed to be going on assignment to investigate one of them... the details are obviously confidential."

Jay gave a small nod. "Ah, I see. Yes, things were very confidential in my day too. Artificers weren't allowed to talk much, it's fair to say." He chuckled a bit and leaned back on the bench. "On that subject...what are you studying for, exactly? You probably have a specific goal. I know I did." He wasn't trying to pry, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

"I'm currently a bronze summoner working to advance to silver soon, and to be honest all I wish in my being here at the institute is become the greatest Mage I can be." He said flatly, though there was something he wanted to do if he ever gained authority and that was pay for his tribe, if you could even call it a tribe... to quit their life of mercenaries and live like normal people but this man didn't need to know that, his response was fitting.

Jay smiled a bit. "Being the best you can be is a good start. But that will take a long time, so don't rush yourself." He leaned back on the bench and crossed his legs. "Any teachers I might remember from my day? Is Kourelan still around? I haven't seen him in ages..." He trailed off.
