8th of July, 23 CLE.
It was the day, the day she had to seize; today would determine how Irelia would proceed in this era of tension and internal strife. She had a heavy weight upon her shoulders and she could physically feel it as she waited with her arms crossed in the hallway of the Institute of War. She doubted that Zed would attempt to draw out her blood, but her blades were ready to slice down the man if she was wrong. After all, you can never be too sure when you are about to face the man who let an old nemesis walk into your state. The silence was heavy, she could hear her body breathing as her blades levitated next to her; she was wearing her blood red armor but added a few piece to cover her neck and her shoulders. Anyone who'd see her would think that she was going in for a battle... But she was simply waiting for a man, a man who is going to decide whether Ionia would be divided or not.
She remembered when she stepped here long time ago; she was hopeless, and begging for the League's help. But they have shown no interest in trying to help her so she decided that she had to take care of Ionia's issues by herself. Her image completely changed; yes she used to be hopeless, but now, she was determined... She would not allow the Noxians nor their allies to step on her toes any longer and every time she thought of it, her eyes ignited in flames, darting an intimidating glare to whoever looked at her.

There was nothing human visible as a dark figure marched through the massive halls of the institute. Encased in thick, yet lightweight armor, his movements were fluid. His feet not looking to even touch the ground nor make a single noise while it moved. Crimson eyes smouldered behind a chrome mask, shadows bent and distorted as though reaching out to embrace the man. Workers within the Institute and Summoners alike all moved from his path, they knew of his alliance with the city-state that had defected and were cautious of the Master of Shadow's own motives. His hands were clenched into fists that moved by his side with each silent step, no weapons were visible upon his being, a gesture of good faith. Yet the techniques to create them from nothing but darkness had been burned into his mind, he was never without the shadows, never to walk alone.
Zed would be seen approaching the Will of the Blades from the opposite end of the hall, his crimson, near demonic stare was locked upon her. Each step that brought him closer to her seemed to draw in the darkness around the two of them, shadows became denser as if devouring the light.

Irelia was not intimidated by the horrific manifestation of Zed's shadow, however, it was slightly annoying her to say the least. Her sword let out a steel-ish growl as Zed faced her while his demonic stare completely went above the Captain's mind. She did not care for what he was trying to show her nor the image he was trying to put into her mind, all of this was nothing but a masquerade to her and she knew it. As she remained still, the Captain spoke in a rather cold voice.
"I see that you are here, Zed. No need for this whole manifestation to indicate your presence."
She kept her arms crossed before carrying on to the most important part of their meeting.
"I wish to speak to you about the recent events that are occurring in Ionia... However, there is one point I would like to clear with you. We are currently unhappy with the presence of Noxian troops on the State's lands and we wish to get this issue out of our way with your cooperation. Now I know that your temple was assaulted by the villagers surrounding the area and we hoped that you would discuss this issue with us before going towards Noxus; however I deem that it is not too late to go back on your words and withdraw the alliance. Us and mainly I have nothing against you, you have shown no hostility towards the Ionians and the war you are waging with the Kinkou is nothing but personal and it doesn't concern the Government, so you may do as you please with them so long as you don't harm the Ionian citizens. As you may know, the Kinkou is not affiliated with us, even though we are on good terms with them."
She gazed upon the shadow ninja and took a deep breath.
"However, before I move any further with my words, I would like to hear you speak."

"A natural reaction the shadows have to my presence." He simply stated with a voice just as cold as hers. The crimson gaze never left her as he spoke once more, "The Noxus you knew was under another leader, Darkwill, he was the one that declared war on Ionia and hurt her. The High Command Officer, Chancellor Malek Hawkmoon that oversaw the Ionian invasion has been removed from power. The Kinkou are a weakness, Swain has pledged to aid me in removing that weakness."
He then fell silent, she had wanted to hear him speak before she continued and he had complied. Now he was curious about what else she had to say, Irelia was the first Ionian to contact him in such a way about the current events. What had brought on the sudden change of attitude?

Irelia shook her head as she listened to his words. How can one man such as Zed fall for these lies. Irelia had no idea what Swain was planning, but she had no doubts that it was not something good for Ionia, not in the slightest.
"I would have to disagree with you Zed. Noxus will never change in the eyes of the Ionians and bringing them in Ionia has done nothing good to them. If you really wish to make Ionia a better place, you would see the strife that has been created because of their presence. Alas it is only my opinion. However, I do not judge the Kinkou as a weakness, they are a group of independent people who follow a certain rule. They have not committed a crime so far and we are not going to eliminate them, but I see that they are standing in your way of your own 'cult' and that is something I personally can not tolerate; you are allowed to practice any cult so long as he does not harm the Ionians, and I am pretty sure you would agree with that.
So I have a proposal for you; I will offer you every protection needed from the Kinkou and will allow you to practice the Arts of Shadows and expand it if you wish to those who are willing to join you. However, I would not tolerate the cause of any harm towards the Ionians and towards those who generally do not want to join you. If you are threatened by anyone, Kinkou or not, then my guards and I are personally prepared to protect you as long as you agree to break up with Noxus and to promise that no harm will be done to our citizen, brothers and sisters alike."

"You would protect us?" He questioned, skepticism laced his voice, "The Kinkou have committed the crime of murder time and time again. Surely you, of the Ionian guard must know of this. They slay innocents in the name of balance, is that not a crime?" His eyes narrowed slightly as he thought, "Yet you come to me, without the consent of the Elder Council as far as I know, and offer me this. Is it within your power to choose sides and invoke the wrath of the Kinkou?"
"The Order of Shadows is no cult, Irelia. We walk a dark path, we admit this. We embrace this. We are a Clan of darkness, will you really tip the Kinkou's balance further into the darkness, risk your life and those of your men for the sake of Noxus leaving Ionian soil? How can your guard offer more protection than Noxus itself?"

Irelia listened to his inquiry, remaining silent as she waited for him to fully stop before answering his questions.
"So far, we have not received any case of homicide committed by the Kinkou towards innocent people, or to say in an easier way, I have not been informed of such thing, but perhaps you know more about this than I do? As for what I said, we practice the law of balance slightly differently than the Kinkou's and they are independent, so if they decide to wage a war against us, they are going up against all of Ionia; because we, speaking from a governmental view, represent the Ionians and breaking out a war against us is going against the Ionians. And I doubt my superiors will scold me since this is for the good of Ionia. To add, my guards are personally trained by me, so they are very capable of taking on any threat possible. "

Zed lifted his chin and exhaled through his nose, his eyes looked to ignite with crimson mist, his voice dropped to a low menacing tone, "Girl, do not play me for a fool. The Kinkou are known for executing those who break their rules of balance. The elder council allowed Darkwill's invasion to occur, the old men who will not allow her to progress are crippling Ionia with each passing day. As other nations progress, Ionia remains stationary in the past."
His fists tightened, the cracking of knuckles could be heard, "The council will not back you, they are fools and they will not act unless forced by public opinion in order to keep their positions."

Irelia remained calm and collected despite the outrage of Zed, she continued to gaze at him before picking up after him.
"If so, then we should change the public opinion to force them to accept it. I find it intolerable to discriminate any sort of art whether it would consist darkness or light. It is all part of balance and there should exist light and darkness in our world."

Zed crossed his arms, the rage passing from his being as he done so, curiosity now pulled at his mind,
"And I wonder, just how you plan to do so? What could the Ionian Guard do to change the public opinion of a faction that willingly sided with Noxians, people you say are the enemy yet have done nothing but been willing to aid me."

"I never called you an enemy, however I did say that Noxus is our enemy no matter what they say. We can never trust them. First off, if you want the people to view you as someone who does not want to disrupt Ionia, you should break your bonds with Noxus; people will start questioning why you did such thing when you just made them your allies. And then this is where I give a public speech and explain the situation you are in. It is quite simple Master of Shadows."
She said as she flaunted her hair to the side and looked up at Zed who was just an inch taller than she is.

Zed remained studying the woman, he hadn't expected such a forward proposition by the woman who lead the Ionian Guard. As far as he knew, they worked to protect Ionia, but this was just screaming for a civil war. The Kinkou would target her, the elder council would request she step down before casting Diplomacy aside. She was prepared to make a lot of enemies in the name of what? Zed's vision of an Ionia that wasn't chained from progression by the very Elders that she was to protect?
"No decisions will be made this day, Irelia. I do wonder however, what would cause you to turn against the Elders?"

"I do hope you think about it Zed. And as far as the Elders are concerned... They have not shown the ability to keep Noxus away from us. Besides... Name one good thing that the elders have done to make our state stronger and more flourishing. Is Ionia truly influencing? Do we inspire people from all over Runeterra to come and visit our lands and see the beauty and different traditions we have? Do all of our people have inner peace? The answer is in your heart. So long as most Ionians like you and I have not found inner peace and moved forward towards a more enlightened and peaceful future where co-existence between light and darkness is possible, then I'm afraid that war will always be standing on our doorstep."
A gleam of sincerity shone in her eyes as she looked at Zed before she turned her back and began to walk away.

Zed listened to her speech, his gaze was unreadable behind the mask he wore. It was an interesting little meeting, it seemed that not all who fell in line behind the Elders of Ionia done so with the best intentions, some seemed to have their daggers at the ready. He remained silent as she walked away, his eyes watching her briefly as he pondered what she had said. Just as silently as he had arrived, his form would fade into the darkness, melting into nothing.
Perhaps a visit to Noxus was in order.
