A speech given to the Demacian public by Prince Jarvan the Fourth, in response to the sudden withdrawal of Noxus from the League of Legends.
It is not in my nature to trust easily. Not quickly. Not lightly. I have always been curious to know the full truth since the moment I learned the nature of lies and secrets, an attitude my father fostered in me. When the Noxian leadership willingly threw their support behind the League of Legends in its formation, I was skeptical. Skeptical of the motives war-loving Noxus could have for granting the fate of their country's disputes to a select few warriors. I asked myself, what would make them hand over their love of open war, and the culling qualities thereof that they so worship as a grindstone with which to sharpen their hungry claws? A stage to exhort their beliefs? What could possibly be worth their allegiance to a institution that seemed to me a force against some of their core tenants.
The answer was simple. Opportunists to a fault, they sought a new battleground where their preclusion for deceit and coercion might win them the battle with Demacia they failed to forward out in the open. Still, through the League they were denied the conquest of Ionia, and despite what I cannot doubt were numerous and lavish attempts at bribery and all the forms of corruption at their disposal, fail to have their way with our world. We have a new High Summoner to show for it.
The League of Legends is not perfect. It's members are not perfect, and neither are it's methods. I do not always agree with its decisions, or its tendency to sanction monsters and villains to fight on its fields, but in the pursuit of a perfect justice it is a step closer, and a great wall distancing us from the path of wanton destruction that once threatened the safety of all life on our world. Given the choice, I would not see those days return.
This is what I have taken from this day. When Noxus announced its succession from the League, my judicious trust in the Institute of War and the intent of its members was renewed.
It is not unfairness that drives Noxus away, but fairness itself.
To the League of Legends I say this. You have not been forsaken by an ally, but rather a would be usurper has given up its hopes of exploiting you and perverting your goals. Noxus, your advances are rejected. The sum of our world has denied you dominance and will continue.
The League will open its hand to you as an equal partner in justice, ready to forgive you your trespasses. It would be for the best of all Valoran that you limit your violent thirsts to the so called Fields of Justice, and so I know you will decline and seek your own envisioned gains.
Do not mistake my words. I will not forget, and I will not forgive. We Demacians hold our oaths sacred, and we will not abandon our agreement with The League of Legends. The same goodwill remains between us, for the continued safety of our world. This day will pass, and if we must fight, Demacia will fight for justice wherever our enemies seek a foothold. We will match the strength of those who seek power in darkness and we will overcome them with a light of truth that chases out the shadows. Let the world know where we stand.
IN THE LIGHT. DEMACIA, NOW AND FOREVER!
