Elders: The lack of military involvement has prevented Ionia from needing a single defined leader such as the other city-states have. Instead, Ionia is divided into provinces which are each represented by an Elder. To determine who becomes an Elder, a competition called "The Distinction" is held every five years. This competition has several trials which test its candidates across a wide array of skills. Schools in each region send their finest adepts – men and women who have trained their bodies and minds in the path to enlightenment – to represent them in the Distinction. The prevailing Elders from each region then gather at the Convergence of Elders thrice annually or whenever any Elder calls for an emergency assembly. Duchess Karma, the Enlightened One, resides among them. Amazingly, there has never been a recorded power struggle within this system, but this is generally thought to be due to the Trial of Humility, one of the most critical and revered tests in the Distinction.
And Elder will need approval from the OC council, as well as an RP of the following Trials
Trail of Temperance- Test the persons ability to be an arbiter of conflict and lead others to resolution. An ideal Elder helps others through peace and understanding, and finds solutions for both.
Trail of Wisdom-A test of the persons knowledge of the world and how they help their fellow man seek it. An ideal Elder is wise, but does not let knowledge alone dictate them.
Trial of Leadership. Test the persons ability to lead others. An ideal Elder commands respect and reverence, but does not place themselves above the people they lead
Trail of Compassion-A test of a persons emotions. How in tuned they are to their emotions and how well they can understand others. An ideal Elder understands the emotions of others, but does not let emotions solely guide their hands
Trial of Humility-A test of a persons self. How a person sees themselves and how humble they are, even as distinguished people of their community. An ideal Elder is humble, but also realizes that they are a leader and must hold themselves as such.
