August 19th, 23CLE.
Ah Ionia, a land of a peace and tranquility where the humans that lived here gathered in order to pursue what they called "enlightenment". What a foolish way to spend your meaningless life as a fleshling, meditating under waterfalls... humming in a dimly lit room, all of this to find that in the end your pathetic lives do nothing but feed The Pit or some starving creature lurking in the shadows.
Hecarim arrived in the forest earlier than he imagined, it was broad daylight and he wasn't sure of his exact location though in the distance he could make out a structure he assumed was a temple of 'worship' or some sort of official gathering place for the fleshlings. Though that did not concern him since his purpose had the possibility of being quick and painless, and if he was disturbed... he was fine with getting his hands dirty if someone was foolish enough to not cooperate with him or give him what he wants as he did in Freljord.
He stomped his hooves into the dirt and slammed his halberd into the ground and let the soul magic run from his fingertips to the weapon, from there his personal squadron of ghost riders began to appear around him and it, as each one appeared their horses reared high and the soldiers that mounted them saluted their leader. Once they were all summoned they would await the order from Hecarim, he reached for the halberd and gave it as quick and simple as he could possibly make it.
"Go forth my brothers, go forth and scout this land. By the time nightfall arrives I wish to know this land like we know the grave, if any of the fleshlings notice you... lead them to me." His voice was stern and his subjects got the message loud and clear before setting out on their new mission, Hecarim however would remain here and await his soldiers or any potential "intruders".
((To summarize, Hecarim is scouting the land of Ionia with his ghost riders, if someone spots them and tries to follow them then you'll eventually find yourself face to face with a ghost-centaur.))

The corruption hissed in displeasure, arousing Varus from his meditation. It whispered its agitation to him, that it smelled the rot of the undead near. The archer let the ruined temple to seek the undead quarry. The ghost rider stuck out to him as it rode through the terrain, the corruption keen on making sure he saw it.
He stalked the ghost as it made it returned to its master. Varus hid in the forests near him, watching Hecarim. He formed his bow and drew an arrow, aiming for the centaur. His appearance confused Varus though. He seemed to be alone, aside from his riders, who seemed more interested in looking then fighting. The corruption rasped at him to fire, but he refused. He re-absorbed the arrow, but kept the bow out and walked to meet the Shadow of War.
"Why are you here, Hecarim?" he asked, his voice demanding.

Hecarim saw a rider return to him what would seem to be ahead of schedule, he immediately assumed that someone had followed it and found it was correct as he sensed something rather... odd approaching him. The stench of flesh mixed with something he couldn't quite put his finger on, but it was familiar to him in a sense, then the voice came and he knew who he was dealing with.
"I wonder if that corruption you wear can bleed. Making demands as if you have power over me, as if a tainted fleshling such as yourself is worth my time, begone before you become a nothing more than a lost soul in a land that has turned it's back on you."
His voice came back harsh quick and insulting, he was growing tiresome of pathetic living who thought they had the audacity to order him, it was simply a waste of his time now.

The corruption in him hissed back at the undead general, it's hatred for it apparent. Varus decided that it would be unwise to anger Hecarim, as the centaur would prove to be a difficult opponent.
"Forgive me, my social skills have been...lacking since my change. I only wish to know why you are here." Diplomacy might be the best approach here, but Varus wouldn't be surprised if his arrival had a much more sinister goal.

"Your listening skills are also lacking. I am scouting your land, nothing more... nothing less. Unless you wish to be the sole cause a handful of your people are slaughtered." He replied replied in the same tone of voice and raised his halberd casually while running his armored hand along the blade.

A frown formed on the archers face. He did not take kindly to threats, but he there was no way he could stop all the riders at Hecarim's disposal. "Why scout Ionia?" he asked. He had been keeping vigilant watch on Ionia as well and had found nothing new that would cause the centaur's appearance.

He did not reply to Varus immediately, instead brought the halberd back to the ground and attempted to show instead of tell, but the demonstration was rather pathetic. As Hecarim was attempting to raise any nearby dead from the dirt, but there were so few the effort he would be putting forth would be useless.

A bitter snort escaped from Varus at Hecarim's answer. "Seems like a waste to come all the way to Ionia when so many other cities have plenty more souls to reap."

Hecarim's question was answered by a cruel laugh from the archer. Help me? They would thank you for making me vanish. I've been a problem for since the League was postponed.". The bittter mirth in his voice was then replaced with a more serious one. "Though it would not be such a simple task to subdue me. Besides, I have no interest in stopping you. The dead are of no concern for me."
A glint appeared in the archers eyes as he conversed with the centaur. Perhaps his appearance could be a boon for him. "You care not where you obtain your souls, just as long as you claim them." he half asked, half stated.

Hecarim ignored the first half of his reply seeing as it was a fair point, Varus was more or less an outcast among his people. The league would not shed a tear for his passing
"Correct. Whether they be young or old I care not, a soul is a soul ripe with energy. Why do you ask, archer?"

The glint in his eyes gave way to a malicious flame. "Even after all that has happened, Noxus continues to plague Ionia. They sit in our land, waiting for their moment to strike. As long as I still stand, I will never let then threaten my home again. Help me drive them from Ionia, and their souls are yours."

The offer was extremely tempting, Hecarim had a distate for the Noxians due to their ancient ties to his homeland and the reason it fell, and now he was being offered a chance to slaughter some of these and reap their souls? A simple scouting mission turning into a slaughter and reaping, a rather unexpected but most welcome outcome for certain.
"Know that I accept this, but I do this NOT for your people and their hatred of Noxus but because a slaughter is a slaughter and a harvest is a harvest. Lead the way, archer."
