Hello people of Maelstrom,
In response to the feedback we've received regarding the champion applications, we've made a slew of changes to how the application system works. Gone are the individualized applications for each character, to be replaced with one generic overarching application form that will apply to all champions, both current and future.
Champion Application Rules
Being a Champion of the League may sound awesome, but you must remember that Maelstrom follows its own canon. Be sure to read all the rules and information you can before applying.
You must remain active if you are roleplaying a Champion, and most importantly you must have In-Character (IC) posts. We would prefer if you could post at least once a week however the time limit for inactivity is a month. If for a month you have not given notice of your absence and have not posted In-Character, we have the right to relinquish you of the role.
At present, the limit to number of champions you claim is two (2). We do ask that you give yourself a few weeks after your first application to get to know the system and make sure that you have the time and creative energy to maintain a second champion. Please note that if we suspect that you are holding more than two Champions at a single time and are proven guilty, we have the right to remove all Champions you may roleplay from you and place a temporary ban on you from further applying for a Champion.
Champion Application Sections
There are a couple goals of our champion application that we think you should be aware of. The first is to get an idea of the quality and form of your writing. To this end, we ask you to produce a writing sample of your choice that illustrates your ability to work with the champion you've selected. This sample will also give us an indication of how dedicated you are to storytelling, as well as how familiar you are with the lore defining your character. Because this is the only writing sample, we ask that you make sure it is representative of your quality of work.
Next, and perhaps more importantly, there is a section on making some plans with your character. One of the hallmarks of our site is the fact that we put a significant emphasis on the collective story that we're trying to build. As a result, we ask that the stories and interactions that you create are apt to the world that we've provided. To this end, we'd like you to take some time to figure out what you actually want to do with your character. The questions are as follows:
While we don't necessarily ask that you guys become masters of everything that happens on Maelstrom before you get started, it is relatively important that you start reading and seeing the kinds of things that are already going on. Next on my list of priorities is the creation of a thread that will keep track of current events on Maelstrom. I will update this thread again once it's complete to serve as a resource for this section.
Submission
All applicants should fill out the form available here and in the link below. Pressing submit makes your application final.
Questions and Comments
As always, if you have any kinds of questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact either myself, or any other admin. We're happy to hear you out as we continue to strive to make Maelstrom the best it can be.
Thanks for your interest, and happy writting!

- What is the overarching goal that drives your champion’s story forward?
- List all champions or lore figures about whom your portrayal has a strong opinion--and define that opinion. Reasons pulled from Maelstrom canon get bonus points.
- What is the first IC action you will take with your champion? Where will it take place? With whom? Be specific: we’d like to see this translate directly to your first post.
- Please list all champions and OCs you currently portray on Maelstrom.
