The sun hanging low in the sky overlooked the city, the crisp morning air biting into the lungs of those out and about. It was promising to be a bright day today, no clouds in sight as the city roused itself from sleep. Then why is it so dark on my path? The grim thought attached itself firmly in the ranger's mind, a shadow as great as that of Valor's wings. Letting out a sigh, she resumed her walk. For better or worse, she had a duty to perform. Golden eyes locking on the palace that seemed to await her, she couldn't decide whether this road was too short or too long. Her boots lightly landing on the ground were the only sound aside from her breathing, lending the air a hushed quality.
Moving her gaze upward, Quinn yearned for the sight of Valor's azure feathers. Unfortunately for her, he had either landed somewhere, or had moved out of her sight. Either way, she felt some of the loneliness that had dogged her steps return with his absence. The last time she'd felt like this was half a year ago, when she'd to find the old kings killer. And just look how THAT had worked out for her. Not only had she practically abandoned her place here for half a year, she was returning home empty handed. Feeling the weight of her failure weighing on her, her steps had lost some of they life they once had. She was no returning hero, she was a prisoner on her way to her own sentence.
Briefly, she considered turning back. How simple it would be at this point. Nobody would even know she'd returned, and she could go back to how things had been. Carefree, just her and Valor against the world. The thought had some appeal to it, but even as it came to mind, she knew she could never do it. Her place was here, in Demacia. And come whatever may, she'd sworn to protect this nation. Thus, she continued her march down the road to the palace.
I guess the street was too short. I'm here already. Stopping before the massive structure, she still felt that small thrill from its majesty, and not even her mood could smother the small spark of wonder. Running a hand along her cheek, she murmurs "Just like a child..." She smiled, before taking a deep breath. "Let's get this over with." Picking her feet back up, she resumed her walk to the entrance.

It had been a calm Monday morning and Shyvana was walking around Demacia, the sun was slowly rising and began to slowly cast its light upon Demacia. The Half-Dragon looked up into the clear sky, not a single cloud in sight. From what she could tell it was going to be a warm day, or warmer if the winter allowed it. Shyvana didn't like the winter, she associated it with too many bad memories and cold nights on the run from the dragon which had haunted her and her father for Shyvana's entire life. Shyvana looked around the silent city, the snowcovered roads and buildings. About two weeks ago there had been some celebration for the passing of a year, Shyvana didn't fully understand why they did that but hey, she had a reason to drink at least.
Walking around in her winterized Ironscale armor Shyvana looked at the snow, there were no tracks in it besides Shyvana's, she didn't expect anyone to be awake at this hour anyway. Her walk continued and she eventually came across the road that lead straight up towards the palace, she hadn't walked this road yet and but it still showed signs of someone walking through it towards the palace. Looking up along the tracks towards the palace itself she could see a lone figure walking, tilting her head she tried to identify the person from afar but because of the distance it could have been anyone. Though that they were out this early was a bit odd.
Slowly Shyvana would begin to walk besides the tracks in the snow, they were rather small, pointing towards the fact that it was probably a female walking or a man with really small feet. The Half-Dragon raised a brow but kept walking until she got closer to the figure, still unable to figure out who it was that was walking towards the palace. Seeing as the figure stopped outside the entrance Shyvana tilted her head but she didn't stop. She kept walking towards her and when the person began walking again Shyvana could see who it was. Quinn.
Shyvana hadn't expected to see Quinn back so soon, or at all. She seemed to be missing the bird, perhaps someone had killed it? Shyvana didn't care. When Quinn got closer to the entrance of the palace Shyvana had caught up with her.
"I feel I have to be honest with you, I did not expect to see you walking into Demacia any time soon, Quinn." Shyvana said and stopped in the snow, waiting to see how Quinn reacted.

The sound of the half-dragons voice split the still morning air, prompting the ranger to whirl herself about to face her. Surprise is obvious on her face, as she mentally berates herself. How did I not notice her approach? I'm getting sloppy. Looking over Shyvana, Quinn couldn't help but grimace as memories of their last encounter came to mind. Running a hand along her cheek, she thinks for a moment before meeting the other woman's gaze. "I may have left all that time ago, but I am still loyal to my people."
Letting some of the tension from her shoulders fade, she sighed softly to herself in resignation. Here's the first challenge... "I wasn't actually expecting to run into anyone yet. Was wanting to talk to the king first, but I suppose that it was unreasonable for me to expect to get there unchallenged." Shaking her head, she sighs. "Well, if you're going to tear me apart, might as well get to it. It's not as though I actually have anything to offer."

Shyvana folded her arms and tilted her head as Quinn spoke, Shyvana hadn't expected to see Quinn walking into Demacia, much less alive and alone. Perhaps some noxian had gotten her bird or maybe some other bird had taken her bird. Shyvana didn't really care and honestly she didn't really give a shit whether Quinn returned or not, Shyvana had told Quinn that she didn't expect her to return to Demacia and should she return, well, she'd be returning as a deserter, though that was not up to Shyvana to decide.
Now Quinn stood here, alone, without any further evidence that might help track down the old King's killer. Shyvana listened to what Quinn added to her original sentence, did the ranger seriously expect that Shyvana would waste energy on her by tearing her apart? Shyvana chuckled and shook her head, letting her arms hang by her side as she focused most of her weight on her right leg. "Tear you apart? No, I'm not that simple minded, though I do not think you'll be speaking to Jarvan this morning, he's too busy to get a report filled with information we already have, which you knew well when I told you. You decided to leave Demacia in a time where your presence was needed more and when I found you I told you to come back with me, but you were too stubborn to comply which is why I left you there."
Shyvana folded her arms once more and cocked her head to the side. "Now, had I been the one to decide, I'd have you marked as a deserter, because that's what you are. But, that's up to Jarvan to decide."

Even though she'd been prepared for similar words, Quinn still felt the Half-Dragons statement slip an icy hand around her stomach. Her eyes lift to the sky, seeking out the familiar azure plumage of Valor. Where had that damn bird gotten off to? Looking back, the ranger knew that she might rely on the bird too much in times of need, and his absence left her without a great deal of the confidence she usually tried to keep. However, knowing the fact didn't offer her any ways to fix it, so she just tried to speak through the taste of bile in her throat. "Maybe I will be labelled a deserter. I'll have earned it if that's the case. I made a judgement call, and it didn't pay off." Her breath fogged the air in front of her face, as she seemed to struggle for the words she wants.
However, as Quinn seemed to be at the edge of abandoning hope, a sharp cry split the air. Lifting her golden gaze from where it had fallen on the fresh snow, the rapidly approaching form in the sky quickly settled into the great form of her companion. Banking quickly, the eagle began to make the journey to the ground. The royal blue feathers drove some of the despair from the ranger, as her eyes settled once more on Shyvana. Extending her right arm out, it was only moments later when Valor took his perch on the specialized shoulder pad. A small smile turned the corners of her lips up, as she ran her free hand along the birds back. "If I'm a deserter, then I'll just have to return to how things have been for the last six months, no better off but still breathing. However, I won't let you dissuade me from at least speaking to Jarvan. Ultimately, it's his call, and I'll abide by his rule." As Valor preened a few feathers that the flight had disturbed, she turned to watch the castle. "I made an oath to protect this nation and it's people. I'll not abandon those words if I can help it." The presence of the bird on her shoulder thawed some of the worry that had grown, as she gave a long sigh.i may be doomed to fail, but at least I can count on someone on someone.

The sound of Demacian-Eagle as it cried out didn't seem to budge Shyvana, her eyes still remaining locked on Quinn as the Ranger raised her arm for the bird to land on. The Half-Dragon listened to the Ranger as she said she wouldn't let Shyvana dissuade her from speaking to King Jarvan, not that she could nor did she have any intention of doing so. At least not right now.
Quinn was a bit odd in Shyvana's eyes, she seemed to rely a whole lot on her bird to give her support and without it she seemed almost a bit lost. When Quinn mentioned she had made an oath to protect both Demacia and it's people Shyvana raised her brow and shook her head. "And you protect our nation and the people who live in it by abandoning both of them in a time of need?" Shyvana asked, though it wasn't that much of a question but more of a statement as in Shyvana's eyes that's what she had done, and probably the same in Jarvan's.
"I will not stop you from talking to Jarvan, in fact I can't stop you from talking to Jarvan but I'll be awaiting his word for what to do with you after your conversation." She said and lowered her arms and turned around, starting to walk away slowly, she sighed as she walked but the woman was determined and there wasn't much Shyvana could do about Quinn. The fact that she had found her months ago was still unknown to anyone besides she, Quinn and the bird.
