Hello, hello! Hope you're all well, Maelstromers. Tonight, I'd like to take a moment to address some potential member concerns. We love you guys and want you to be happy, so hopefully this will clear up any confusion or worry.
The first issue I'd like to bring up is that of individual freedom in RP. Maelstrom is an open and welcoming community, but we do hold ourselves to a certain standard of performance. This means that I fully expect you to to be familiar with the lore relevant to your champion(s) so that you can better determine the ways in which they'd behave and the choices they'd make.
However, we are also collaboratively crafting a unique divergent storyline. This is the fun part. Make those choices. You've done the research, now you get to decide where to go, who to meet and how to react to the goings on around you. Do not be afraid to develop your character as you go according to your interactions and experiences, but give careful thought the the decisions you make. Out of respect for our community, do NOT cheapen the RP of your fellows by contriving plots and PC emotions.
TL;DR: Embrace personal development as you go, but don't neglect proper character progression!
The second issue was voiced to me by a few members wondering, "How much influence do I actually have over the plot?" The answer, in short, is as much as you want.
Your champions are free to move about and do as they please in this open world (within lorebound reason, of course.) They are free to be as involved or as distant as they like from whatever is going on around them. They are free to respond as is appropriate for both champion and OC.
Think of Maelstrom as a gigantic, LoL-themed D&D campaign. As the DM, I do have plenty of my own ideas for developing our divergent plot, but these are highly flexible. They change nearly every time I read a new thread! You are shaping our story every time you post. How's that feel?
TL;DR: All of your characters can make a difference in the world around them. RP accordingly.
Don't feel hesitant to post. Be confident in the validity of your RP. You can avoid misunderstandings by keeping informed on lore (both Riot and Maelstrom canon.)
Above all, respect each other. If you ever have doubts about your RP stepping on toes, message those involved before posting. If you ever feel one of your fellows' RP is unfair, take it up with them calmly and politely in PMs. If you are ever unable to come to a resolution through civilized OOC discussion, please contact me! Evil avian demon dictator is here for you. <3
Anyhow, I hope any unease about free-form RP has been relieved by this little spiel. If you still have questions, feel free to PM me. Otherwise, get posting!
