Dorian started to gather sorcerous energy between his palms, which manifested in a sphere of black energy as the trio entered the burial chamber. The five coffins within were now clearly visible, and seemed to be where the scraping sounds were coming from. The heavy stone lids set atop the coffins seemed to be just barely holding in whatever lay beneath...For now.
Dorian cursed under his breath. "Wonderful....Well, Gragas, here are your undead, then...."
The coffin lids suddenly shattered as an armed, reanimated skeleton climbed out of each one and began to shamble towards the trio of adventurers.
Caerys saw Gragas was already blocking off two skeletons on his own, and decided to attack the one nearest to her- with her long flail, she possessed superior reach, and lashed out at its cranium. She was mobile, and took a step back into the corridor after the attack.
Hit or miss, her proficiency allowed her to swing the weapon back into her hand for the next assault.
Gragas stood firm, blocking the path through to Caerys and Dorian. As soon as the nearest skeleton was in range, he attempted his signature body slam on the undead warrior.

Caerys: (Counter-roll: 15)
The skeleton attempts to block your flail with it's blade, but the weapon's head continues it's trajectory and clips the skeleton's skull, damaging and staggering the construct but leaving it intact.
Gragas: (Counter-roll: 9)
The skeletons you rammed into is launched backwards, colliding with it's fellow as the two skeletons fall over, one smashed beyond repair and leaving the other with several broken ribs and a fractured jaw.
Dorian: (Rolled 10, counter-rolled 20..... D: )
Dorian launched a ball of flame at the furthest two skeletons, but it harmlessly washed over the creatures as they continued to shamble forward.
"These things are tougher than they look!" Dorian muttered as he prepared another spell.
"That's wot I'm talkin about!" Gragas cheered as the skeleton shattered to pieces. He then hoisted his barrel, and moved in to slam it down on the next skeleton.
The flail glances off the skeleton's skull, but Caerys pulled and manipulated with the handle, and once again the flail returns to her, and she keeps it spinning to maintain momentum. She launches it again, this time at the skeleton's pelvic bone- be they alive or dead, a crushed pelvis always caused the entire skeletal structure to collapse on itself...

(Sorry about the lack of images....Somebody closed my photoshop program >_<)
Gragas: (Counter-roll: 9, -3 due to damage= 6)
Your keg shatters what is left of the skeleton's torso and head, unbinding the necromantic magic that held it together and returning the bones to a now-permanent death.
Caerys: (Counter-roll: 11, -1 due to damage = 10) The skeleton again parries your flail, and, like before, the flail's head carries on to smash the construct's pelvis, rendering the legs useless. The skeleton was undaunted, however, and crawled toward you, dragging itself by it's arms and slashing at your legs with it's bony fingers. (Rolled 19, -5 for damage =14. If you roll higher, then the attack misses. Since the skeleton's movement and reach is severely impaired, you get +5 to your roll.)
Dorian: (Rolled 12, Counter-rolled 1)
Dorian's spell unleashed a bolt of black magic, which rocketed towards the two intact skeletons and engulfed their skulls, causing them to disassemble as if they were never undead to begin with.
"I probably should have opened with that one, in hindsight..."
Caerys mistakenly backed against a small statue in the corner and nearly fell over, causing her to be unable to defend against the crawler's feeble attack. Worse, it caught her in the leg, scratching the Gladiatrix, drawing blood and snagging at her loose pantaloons, ripping the cheap material. Suddenly the arena skin suit seemed alot more appealing.
Undaunted, Caerys continued her assault, using her flail expertly like a second limb. She keeps her move simple and economical however, and smashes the flail down on the skeleton's skull once more.

((I'll just give you that kill.))
Caerys:
The flail connects with the skeleton's skull, ending what little of it's life was still bound to the creature's body.
__Exiting combat__
"I have a feeling that these aren't the last of them...." Dorian said, kicking at the bones of the recently-killed skeleton at Caerys' feet. "Let's keep moving. We don't want to get bogged down." An uncharacteristic statement coming from an archaeologist, as he made no move to even search the burial chamber as he started moving down the hallway, his magelight following close after him.
Caerys took a moment to apply a bandage to apply pressure and stop the bleeding on her leg. It was a small scratch, but she was never one to leave anything to chance. She called Dorian out when she realized he was in quite a hurry. She joined him as he began to move, but was just curious enough to ask.

"Yes, they are indeed guardians. And of good construction, too....If there are more, then whatever they are guarding is most valuable indeed." Dorian replied, and saw Caerys' wound. "Here, let me have a look at that...." He knelt and placed his hands over Caerys' wound. In a flash of searing pain followed by a sickening, if short-lived, chill, the wound knit itself back together good as new. "There you go, right as rain."
As Gragas finished off the last skeleton, he heard Caerys and Dorian chatting. He walked over to him, noticing the injury on the woman. "You alright?" He asked, observing the wound.
Gragas followed the two adventurers while Dorian was explaining the origin of the skeletons. He didn't comment about the sudden healing of the injury, as he had seen stranger, but instead he was interested in the skeletons. "Could they possibly reincarnate, by chance?"
Post by The Deathsinger on Mar 5, 2013 20:41:34 GMT -5
"Not a chance. Most necromancers can only reanimate a single time...Killing the undead destroys what little true lifeforce the necromantic magic is clinging to. Only in special cases do they ever revive more than once, and only then if they have a true soul that they are bound to. In the case of a simple skeleton, that is unlikely." Dorian replied.
"Of course...That is barring an extreme surge of negative energy. But that hasn't happened since the last Rune War, and in that case....You wouldn't be worried about the skeletons, but the necromancer controlling them."
"Very well then, let's move on..." Caerys said simply, wincing at the mage's healing. She never quite got used to that sensation. She picked up her lantern and continued along their original path.
"Gentlemen first?" She looked back and asked to them.
"Well, that's good, then. Once they're dead, then they're alive...that's besides the point, but once they're dead twice, they should stay dead.!" Gragas chuckled, then stopped immediately, clearing his throat awkwardly.
"We'll, I do believe I will go first, then." Gragas began to advance further down the hallway.
