Greetings, forum denizens, from your favorite demon-birdmin.
Tonight, I would like to open up discussion on IC consequences. I have mentioned this issue elsewhere, but it has come to my attention that the matter requires its own thread.
That's right. We RP in a fantastic setting where wizards and sorcerers bend the elements to their will, where chemicals and technology can manufacture sentience, where interdimensional beings threaten our very existence. But this does not mean we eschew the realistic results of our choices. If anything, such facts about our setting should make the consequences of our actions more dire.
Please consider the following when making IC decisions:
2. You can die. If you cross certain boundaries, you will die. It doesn't matter who you are. Champion, OC, political figure. Tread carefully. Previously, I'd expected people to take this into consideration when making IC decisions. I can see now that we need reminding. We are all mortal (to some extent.) There are forces in this world that can obliterate any of us. I am no longer going to require your RP partners to PM you if the abundantly clear result of an action is you coming to harm. Roll with the punches. We've seen this in such great RPs as LeBlanc/Graves' little debacle where he tampered too far--and lost an arm as a consequence. One of the wonderful parts of RPing in a divergent setting is that everything you do makes a difference. This is exhilarating, but a great responsibility.
3. But for a very very few exceptions, your OCs are not stronger than champions. Of course there are circumstantial advantages that may be taken into consideration, but Maelstrom is a League of Legends RP forum. Champions are the paragons of this world. If you engage a champion on an OC, expect to be defeated. Do not expect whatever fate you're given to be retconned. A world in which there are no consequences is no fun to RP in.
4. Death is final. But for a very very few exceptions, resurrection is not an option. Please do not suppose that we will intervene on anyone's behalf should IC actions have death as a consequence. Do your characters value their lives? Have them act accordingly.[/ul]
Thank you for your time. Please proceed as though your characters exist in a real world, where whatever happens to them is irreversible (yes, Adelheid, I know.)
