Sonder nods, and takes another bite- a smaller one; she seems more reserved now, out of a respect for the dead which she's had since she was young.
"I suppose not- one of my grandparents lived to a hundred-and-eight with no magic, but I suspect that may have been due to the chemicals she was a test subject for." Her hand flicks up to the back of her neck to rub it in slight embarrassment. "She was, um, from Zaun; my father, Brandon, moved here after he met my mother there."
It's an attempt to change the subject- and perhaps an awkward one. The clarification of her father's name seems unnecessary, but she names him like an old habit, as though she needed to distinguish him from her mother in a second way.
Nevin quietly listened to her talking about her family. He was surprised that her parents and grandparents were from Zaun. Nevin had never been to Zaun himself though he always thought about going at some point. "Your grandparents were test subjects for chemicals? Any Idea what type of chemicals they used on them?" He asked. He couldn't begin to imagine what kind of chemicals would do that to a person
He noticed that she had used her father's name. most people usually do not use their father's name, but it does happen. Perhaps in time he could ask her more about her relationship to him, if there was one.

She shrugs. "No idea- but I figure I don't want to." Her sentence is punctuated by a small laugh. It did prolong her grandmother's life, but at what cost? Sonder had never met her, which left her imagination to run wild regarding the possible effects of the drugs.
...I keep slipping up about my parents; I should've just called Brandon my father. She was optimistic about how Nevin might respond to her parents' situation, though. He'd responded well enough to her preferences- there hopefully wouldn't be an issue.
"Yeah, probably for the best not to know." He had smiled lightly. He never could fully understand all the crazy experiments that went on in Zaun, and he would care not to know
He had fidgeted slightly in his seat. "So what was your father like? I heard a bit about you're mother, but not your dad." HE asked, seemingly genuinely interested in who he was. He never met his actual parents, but he often regarded the chieftain of his tribe his father.

There's a brief pause, and the air around her seems to heat as her emotions blend in a confused flux- but when she makes up her mind, the warmth fades.
"Which one?" she asks, friendly, but deadpan. Her hands twist in her lap, waiting for his answer.
Nevin was surprised at the mention of which father. His brow raised slightly as he felt the heat radiating from her, his own body cooled down and emanated in a natural response to the heat. Perhaps she had mixed emotions about her parents, however many there was. It wasn't unusual for people to have multiple parents, from what he heard sometimes parents get remarried. Back in his clan, these things never really was an issue.
"... you had more then one father?" he curiously asked. "Maybe you can talk about Brandon, the one you mentioned earlier?" He figured that would be a good way to start. After all, she did in fact mention him, so there was likely something there however good or bad.

The cool air rushes from him to her skin, and is met with an almost imperceptible sigh of enjoyment- Sonder's habit of walking at night was borne mostly from the heat under her skin. His reaction brings a tinge of relief to her voice as she explains.
"Brandon is more my father than my dad, I guess," she starts out, before deciding to clarify. "He took care of the bills and the costs of the house with my mom, and he's the one who instilled me with my personal values more than anyone else." A smile crosses her face as she recalls the various defining points of her childhood.
Nevin had nodded as Rose affirmed what he had thought. "He sounds like a good man" He simply spoke. from what he had seen, many people do not have the pleasure of parental figures growing up. often children lack one or the other due to circumstances that are beyond the child's control
"I never got to know my real parents. they gave me to the clan that was nearby." He admitted himself. "I don't know why they did, perhaps they were simply not able to take care of me. I feel though that my parents were the ones who raised me, the chieftain Rex and his wife Elena." He had no issue talking about himself being adopted. He was proud to have been raised by the chieftain of a tribe, it was one of the many things that helped make him stronger as a person.
The dinner goes on for some time- and over it, they make a connection. When Nevin asks Sonder on a camping trip, she's interested; having been born and raised in Noxus, the wilderness (or even the countryside) isn't something she's familiar with. As such, they go to the outlands between Noxus and its coast; Sonder's greatest wish for their trip is to see the ocean.
