Taric sat at his desk, like he does every morning while he was Piltover, and sipped some freshly brewed tea as he gazed out the window at the landscape of the city.It appeared to be another quiet day again, which he didn't mind at all. His workshop here was where he would teach prospective students about gems and the magic they held within, and how they corresponded with the earth itself.
It wasn't a large workshop, thirty feet by thirty feet. There were a few tables here and there that held various jewelers tools and related equipment. The various shelves that lined the walls held all manner of precious stones behind enchanted glass cases. Some were uncut, in their raw form. Others were cut in a variety of styles. There were even some set into various pieces , from decorative vases to a copy of his hammer.Near his desk sat a dummy which wore his trade mark blue armor when he wasn't wearing, his hammer leaning against the wall near it within easy reach of the gem knight. Off to the side there was a door to his private chambers, which remained locked at all times. One would normally assume that is were he kept his spare equipment, but whatever else was in there was a mystery to everyone, and he would like to keep it that way.
This day was the same as others when he was at the academy it would seem, he would open up the shop and await prospective students, work on his own projects, accept requests for his aid, and/or send away those who were too nosy for their own good. And if there were no students after a few days, which was pretty much most of the time, he would don his arms and armor and pursuit his true purpose, wandering the land aiding those in need of his help.
He brushed some of his bangs from his blue eyes and looked at the busy streets below.
"I wonder if anyone will show up today?"
He continued to drink his tea and mused to himself silently as he gazed at the landscape of the city of progress.

'Hmm, this might be an interesting development,' the Revered Inventor was pondering to himself; he had never seen anything like this before, and since he knew of the otherworldly knight's knowledge of this area, he figured it would be best to pay this man a visit.
Heimerdinger was carrying a very oddly-shaped diamond in his rather small arms; in fact, the diamond was so big it almost obsucred his entire head, and it was only the fact that the diamond was so transparent he could see through it that he could even see where he was going at all.
Finally making his way to the entrance to Taric's workshop, he saw the door open, and standing at the entrance, called out to the Gem Knight, if he was there.
"Ay, Professor Taric! Are you in today?" Heimerdinger's voice squeaked a little bit; being a Yordle always was tough on the small yet brilliant Heimerdinger, but he had learned to get around it by now.

The Gem Knight looked up from his revery as Heimerdinger called for him from the doorway to his workshop. He set down his tea and turned around in his chair to look at the revered inventor, his eyebrows arching in interest when he saw the large diamond the yordle was carrying.Intrigue shown in his voice when he addressed his colleague.
"Yes professor, I am in. Please come on in and place the gem on my desk and I will get you some fresh tea. Looking at the gem you have brought with you, it seems that you found something of interest with it?"
Taric stood up and walked around and pulled up a chair specifically made for yordles and pulled it out for Heimerdinger. He then poured a fresh cup of tea for the two of them while he waited for him to come sit down.

Heimerdinger got up on the chair, and placed the diamond on the table as Taric requested, before taking a seat of his own, nodding in thanks for the tea, which he began to sip from.
"Well, Professor Taric, it appears that this Diamond of sorts - recently uncovered by a Piltovian research team in the Ironspike Mountains - has come in an shape that we have never witnessed a Diamond have before. However, that is not the only - nor the most interesting - difference we found in this gemstone."
"As you know, most gems have a specific streak that they give off when light hits it. For Diamonds, it is colorless."
"However, this Diamond, as I will now show..." Heimerdinger took out a small pocket-light, and began shining it around the Diamond, the effects of which could be clearly seen by the Gem Knight, and which were then - somewhat redundantly - stated by the Revered Inventor.
"...happens to have a messy rainbow-like streak. Would you happen to have seen a Diamond of this property before?"

Taric watched as Heimerdinger shined the light through the gem and nodded rubbing his chin as the rainbow of color shined through. He opened a drawer on his desk and withdrew a jewelers lens and placed it on his eye, getting a closer look at the gem before them.
"Hmmm this is interesting find Professor Heimerdinger. What you have is called a prism. Like you said most gems shine with their inner light and color, like you have seen for yourself on my armaments. But a prism is not only colorless but is shaped in such a way that when light is shined in a certain way we get the rainbow of colors you see here. This is due to the angles causing the light to refract and separate into the the primary colors of the visible spectrum. It is very similar to how a rainbow is made in the sky after it rains. But my main question is this."
He picks up the prism and turns it around in his hands as he looked at it with his jewelers lens.
"Is this one a natural occurrence, or is it hand cut?Tell me Heimerdinger, was this the only one you found, or were there others like it at your site?"

Heimerdinger's reply to Taric's questions were simple.
"That's where the rest of us are pretty much stumped, Professor: this was a naturally occuring gemstone... and we practically found it in a quarry, full of it!" He then fell silent and took up his tea, taking a small sip; what Taric could know of this would interest him greatly...
Post by The Gem Knight on Apr 23, 2013 0:53:07 GMT -5
Taric rubbed his chin at that. It was incredibly rare for prisms to form on their own, but a whole quarry of the things, now that was almost a impossibility. He looked over at the inventor with intrigue in his features.
"That is fascinating indeed, for it is near impossible for just one crystal to form naturally like this. Make me wonder if there was some sort of magical effect influencing their growth. I wonder if someone was making them grow like that, and if so what purpose they could of had. Truly fascinating."
He continued to look at he prism with great interest as he spoke, trying to think of various hypothesis on its existence and possible uses.
"The ones in the quarry, were they growing in any particular patterns. Or was there anything else found at the site?"

Heimerdinger listened to Taric's comments, nodding as he spoke; so it was a special object to be found... perhaps there was an unknown type of capability this rock held? Or some magical undiscovered property that might provide further insight? So many questions popped up in his head; it only whetted his appetite to find out.
When Taric asked him his question, he put down the tea, and then looked up at him before addressing him.
"Well, for your first question, it was also a spectacular fact we found that made us even more confused: none of these prisms grew in any direct shape or size! Their cleavage, their fracture lines... each one, unique and different from all the others! It's a truly remarkable find, I say."
"As to your other one... I don't recall any off of the top of my mind, but now that you ask it, I do recall one of the geologists mentioning a very odd find as I had left the quarry with this amazing prism. What it was he found, I do not know... but it could be possible that whatever it was he did find could be linked to these magnificent works of art by nature... or something else." His mind now went back to the specific moment the geologist called out that he found something... what could it be?

Each one was unique, now that made him look at the inventor with a surprised look.He drummed his fingers on the table as he nodded at Heimerdinger.
"Now that is very interesting, most of the time a patch of crystal growth shares at least a few similarities. Now you are making want to come and take a look at this place myself, see if I can get a read on any power that may be present there. But first let me run one more test on this sample before we do anything else."
With that Taric put his hand on the prism and closed his eyes. He used his knowledge of the power of the earth and called to the power inside of the prism. This was almost the same way he called on the gems he wore to imbue his allies with their healing light, but he was unsure of the reaction this time, so he was taking his time being careful with it.

Taric continued to focus his power on the prism and thought about Heimerdinger's question. He looked over at the inventor and stated in a matter of fact tone.
"Normal would mean that we have seen something like this before and can expect what will happen. From the results of this test we can see what properties this crystal and therefore judge what properties we could expect from the prisms at the excavation site."
He began to pour some more power into it, and then looked over at Heimerdinger again.
"Thought I would suggest standing back a little. It would be a shame if you were injured if something were to go awry."

Heimerdinger listened to Taric's comment, and nodded upon hearing his reply.
"Hmmm... right. And very well," he then added upon hearing Taric's warning. Getting off his chair, he moved back a little bit away from the table, slightly tilting his head to see what Taric might find out of this prism.

Taric nodded at Heimerdinger as he backed up from the prism. The knight went back to work on the prism. He frowned as he felt a little resistance inside the gem, preventing the power from coming out. With a small grunt of effort and will Taric forced the Prisms power past the resistance. The resulting shockwave of power would blow both the gem knight and the inventor back as a beam of prismatic energy shot out of the prism and through the ceiling. Rubble fell from the ruined ceiling as Taric grunted in pain, having hit the wall behind him with enough force to crack the wall, and possibly a rib or two. He gazed up through the hole, trying to regain his breath.
"I believe...I put too much into it."

Heimerdinger was caught off guard by the explosion, and he flew back into the other side's wall, hitting it rather hard, and then sliding down onto the table that was set against it.
"EEP!" He grunted, as he hit the wall.
However, in spite of all that had happened, his reaction was quite responsive: he got up, and gave off a shrill whistle upon seeing Taric's condition.
Post by The Gem Knight on May 12, 2013 13:01:18 GMT -5
Taric stood up and winced a bit in pain. He walked over to the table again and picked up the crystal, examining it. Nodding he set it back down and looked at the inventor.
"Yes, I did learn something."
He gave the prism a couple taps with his finger as he spoke.
"This one in particular magnifies energy. It took the power I was pouring into it as well as its natural power and this was the result. It is likely the others at the site would have a similar effect."
