The Collapsed Mine
"DANGER. DO NOT ENTER." A rusted sign hangs suspended by chains at the entrance to the #1 Loadstone Mining Consortium mine, once a Demacian-run digsite, now a crumbling hole in the mountain surrounded by piles of rubble.
It was here that, nearly two years ago, 12 innocent miners were trapped for nearly a month in the aftermath of an earthquake. After necessary investigations were conducted, the site was largely abandoned. It now serves as a two-fold reminder of the mortal potential for treachery, and of the awesome power of a disturbed Runeterra.
Though access is technically forbidden, the lands outside the Crystal Scar lie largely quiet, forgotten, except during official matches. The countryside is quiet but for the chirrup of crickets and the whispers of the wind.

The Rift
The Crystal Scar stands quiet tonight, its nexuses humming softly, pulsing purple over the broken land. Magic is in the air: a static charge, the subtle fetid scent of power. Though the field itself is walled off by jagged peaks, domed by a glowing forcefield, the land around is traversable, though rough, marred by unchecked magics and greed for the bounty of the earth.
South of the Scar, a path leads out of the once-quaint town, now somewhat rugged from disuse. And barely a mile out from the ruins of Kalamanda, the path breaks--the very ground breaks. A chasm, five meters wide and at least fifty in length, casts an eerie light upon the untamed landscape.
To stand upon the ledge, to peer down into the abyss, would shake a mortal heart. There is no floor in sight, only the endless, twisting patterns of faintly glowing purple crystals. Only mystery. Only the temptation to venture closer, to discover the secrets of this unknown world beneath the world...
