As the forum grows, a lot of things need to be more clearly defined to allow people to more easily engage. The task falls to me, Institute of War Board Leader (Ladies) to detail my home's specifics more accurately.
This is where everything starts for a Summoner. It's one of many magical colleges on Runeterra, but it is unique in that it is the only place one can learn the summoning arts. It is tied completely to the Institute itself and graduating saddles the graduate with the expectation that you're to join the Institute as a Summoner.
What is it one can expect to learn at the Arcanum Majoris, however? Well, as it is linked completely to the Institute, you will of course learn to summon Champions and control minions in addition to everything commonly required of a Summoner's magical abilities. Basic magical theory and a few non-summoning spells (Ignite, Barrier, etc.) are taught to demonstrate understanding of magic.
Summoners are expected to know more than just summoning, however, because the goals of the Institute are vast. History is an extremely important subject to the Summoners, as it allows them to better understand the state of the world. Cleaning up the world from the instability of the Rune Wars is incredibly important, and so relevant learning is given to every student.
Summoners are also very frequently called upon as political envoys and the Institute's place as peace keepers means that conflict negotiation is cornerstone of the educational profile offered by the Arcanum Majoris, along with various sociological courses.
Education offered by the Arcanum Majoris takes absolutely no less than four years for the most skilled and determined students, but can take longer in some cases. The student body are some of the brightest minds in Runeterra and to graduate it is expected that you are the best of the best.
Once you've graduated, however, you are a certified Bronze-ranked Summoner. What does that mean? Well...
So you graduated, wonderful! You're a brand new Bronze-ranked Summoner, and you're capable of everything you need to be able to do as a Summoner. That does not mean you're the most trusted individual in the heirarchy of course. You've definitely learned everything you needed to, but that doesn't mean you've demonstrated those skills in a conflict situation.
Advancement in the Institute is done case by case, and while someone's ability on the Fields of Justice is of course a factor, but it is a very small portion of what makes up someone's advancement. Matches are, in fact, one of the least important things in a summoner's life. While magical prowess is generally indicated by one's Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum/Diamond ranking, it is far from a completely accurate scale, as League matches are not the end all be all of the Institute.
To move from one rank to the next, Summoners must show exemplary performance in as many of their fields as possible. As one goes higher in the rankings, the requirements for advancement become more rigorous. Of primary importance is the healing of Runeterra, though it is far from the only factor in one's placement.
Summoners are expected to remain in dress whenever they are on assignment, the typical purple robes everyone knows them for. Of course, when not working, they may wear whatever they wish.
There are a few unique jobs offered to a Summoner, of course. Artificers are an important facet of the League, but require a unique course from the Arcanum Majoris, as it is a much more specialized job. Stewards are also an important, specialized job, but are selected based on exemplary performance and the current Steward Council's acceptance.
The High Council of Equity is the ruling body of the Institute, responsible for all of the important decisions and actions that the Institute takes. The High Council of Equity is currently made up of Keirsta Mandrake and Vessaria Kolminye. Reginald Ashram was once a High Councillor as well, though since his disappearance, he has been replaced by Heywan Relivash, whose presence on the Council was short-lived due to his involvement in the Kalamandan Incident.
Every one of the members of the High Council is an absurdly potent Summoner and, though it is up to some debate based upon personal opinion, each are thought of as skilled negotiators and leaders. Acceptance into the exclusive ranks of the High Council is at the sole discretion of members in current standing
